Triple Triad
~ Elimination Bracket Challenge ~
<quote>
How It Works
<quote>Players will face off against each other in a special Elimination Bracket Challenge. The player that loses all 3 rounds will be eliminated from the game. The winner of all 3 rounds of the Bracket will win earn safety for next week guaranteeing them a spot in final 6 and a CD key for the PC game Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn which includes 30 days of game time. (or exchange for any other available game)</quote>
Rules
<quote>
*
Each match-up will be a best of 3 rounds, with the winners & losers advancing accordingly to face each other in the next round.
*
Players will have access to use any of the cards currently in their deck when playing a round, they will not be restricted to a specific "hand" or other subset of their deck's cards.
*
The starting player (determined randomly) will have the choice of playing any card in any of the 15 spots on the game board. After the first card is played, the opponent may play a card on any unoccupied space on the board. The game continues with players' turns alternating.
*
Due to there being an uneven number of spots on the board, the player that goes 2nd will start the game with 1 point.
*
To win a round you will need to obtain at least 9 points. (if it is tied it will go to tiebreaker rules) you will receive 1 point for every card you control on the board.
*
You may place any of your remaining cards in any of the remaining open spaces on the board, whether it results in a capture or not.
*
The ranking of the cards can be found in the top left corner with the numbers indicating the strength of your card on each side of it.
*
To capture your opponents cards, place a card with a higher rank (on the bordering edge) next to one of your opponents cards to capture it; so you can capture the card to the left of where you place your card if your card's score on the left edge is greater than their card's score on its right edge. Once this is done you can highlight the square to indicate you control that card and space. You may make multiple captures in a single card play, if there are multiple cards bordering where you place your card that are each weaker than the card you place on the respective bordering edges (including theoretically capturing all 4 bordering cards if it is setup right).
*
Captures can be done in any of the 4 cardinal directions, as cards have values for all 4 of their edges. Once a card is played, and it is determined whether it captures any of its neighbors or not, that card can no longer capture anything else after that time, so when placing a card in a blank space it cannot be captured by a card that is already adjacent to it, no matter what the difference in their scores is on the shared border. As well, you also cannot cause a chain reaction by placing a card, capturing the card adjacent to it, and with that captured card being stronger than a card adjacent to it then proceed to also capture that additional card as well; only those directly adjacent to the card you place are eligible to be captured in that move.
*
Please note the elements shown on the cards will not be used for our version of the game.
*
You will be able to see your opponents deck.
*
Anytime you beat your opponent (without using the tiebreaker rules) you will be entitled to steal 1 their cards that you successfully managed to capture during that round and kept control of until the end of the round. This transaction is permanent and your opponent will no longer be able to use this card you have taken unless stolen back in a later round.
*
Players will be granted access to a google sheets document, within which they will be able to play the match-up.
*
Please arrange a time period with your opponent for you to play out your match-up live with one another. If you are unable to come to an agreement within a reasonable timeframe then we can look at other options to get your match-up complete.
*
The specific matchup/bracket will be posted when we are ready to start the first round of matchups.</quote>
Making Your Starting Deck
<quote>
*
Before the challenge can begin, each player must build their deck. Your starting deck will consist of 12 cards. 1 card from each level (1-10) and 2 cards additional cards, 1 from each level of one of the following pairs of levels. (level 1&10) (level 2&9) (level 3&8) (level 4&7) (level 5&6)
*
Your starting deck should be be made up of all unique cards. Card Reference Sheet: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Final_Fantasy_VIII_Triple_Triad_cards </quote>
Tiebreaker Rules
<quote>1. The player that controls the majority of the cards on the inside 3 squares of the board.
How to Submit
<quote>Private Message: M0NSTER_</quote>
Deadline
<quote>Monday 7:00 AM ET
Countdown Clock:
https://goo.gl/ExGaWr</quote></quote> Edited by luckynumber777, Oct 12 2017, 07:06 PM.

Rule Clarifications <quote>
*
Players will be sent the links to the google sheets via PM. Do not share these links as anyone with the link may edit it.
*
When taking your turn move your card to the spot you wish to play your card and then color that CELL with your color along with any other cards/cells you capture with that move.
*
I placed a counter to track the score. This will only work properly if you add/remove text from inside of the orange rectangle. Please do this if you would like to see the correct score automatically.
*
The RED player will go first in rounds 1 & 3 (if needed), while the GREEN player will start round 2. As a reminder the player that goes 2nd will start with 1 point. Which player is which has been randomized in advance.
*
If the opportunity presents itself, if you are given an opportunity to steal an opponents card, you can't steal a card that you already own, as per the rule about not getting two of the same card.</quote> |
