 I prefer(red, since I don't really play TES any more) playing a hybrid of stealth and magic, mainly because at higher levels the fun of just bashing something's head in kind of fades away.

But yeah, as said, most of the combat system of TES is (not was) rather mediocre so a real preference is not so simple.
