When there is lore switches like cydrill becoming a coniferous forest instead of a jungle what source do we believe when deciding what is canon.

I find it depends on the lore. The jungle changing to forest, for example, was covered:

When was that written? After OB's release?

I believe so, it was basically a retcon by MK.

The line underneath says, "Michael Kirkbride's divine retcon of Cyrodiil."

Hmm.....

So pretty much he wrote that on Beth's behalf, without really them asking him to?

That reeks of coverup.

I'm not sure if he just did it as a favor or what, but it sounds more like a favor, considering he never did anything about the whole Pale Pass thing.

Don't go ballistic on me now, topic...I only mentioned it!

See....this is where thing get tricky. Is it canon or not? I say yes, because it's MK for God's sake. But then again.....what would be Beth's stance in this. I would say that they wouldn't consider it, because it's nothing official.

What do you all think about that? Take MK's word for it or not? It's nothing official, so it's kind of hard to accept it, right?

Honestly, the guy was the one people looked to for lore when he was with Bethesda. Why should it be considered any different now? Bethesda may own the series, but MK knows what he's talking about, honestly. Bethesda can change it, because it is theirs, but MK was the expert on it, and people will always consider him the expert on it.

The best stance, honestly, would be to accept Bethesda's ideas, but find a way they can work with MK. It's disappointing a situation like that can't happen more often, and often the two sides are opposites...

It's like being approached by two men. One man understands the world and the way it is, because he helped create it, and knows the intricate details of it. Another man can always go through and get what he wants in the world because he has the ability to change it the way they want. The second will always, officially, be right, but honestly, no one would like changing their theories and knowledge just because someone else forced them into that position. Rather, the one who helped originally create it will be admired for creating the knowledge that the people have and possess, that they have spent years learning and understanding.

Like I said, an inbetween, while it hasn't happened, besides with the divine retcon from before, would be great.

I agree with you totally. I take MK's word...but it's still such an awkward situation. Why the hell isn't he with them anyway? Why would they someone like him get away from them? Did something happen?

I honestly don't know. You could ask someone like Sload(gulp...) who knows the details, or Proweler. Just be really nice if you ask the first. Really, really, really nice.

Hmm......I think I may create a topic over at TIL. Sload will probably say something nasty to me, but hell, it's not like I don't expect it.

Since this is on lore discussion, here's another good question: Considering how Tiber Septim walked in the steps of a god to become a god, does it apply only to the et'ada in terms of gods, or would it also apply to the several human gods there have been(Vivec, Mannimarco, etc.)

Similar to quik's but why did Tiber become a god.

It has to do with walking in the steps of a god. When Tiber Septim took the soul of his Archmage and used it to power the Numidium, he copied the actions that helped in the creation of the world, and in doing so, seized godhood.

Any lore experts, do I have that about right?

Tiber Septim mantled Lorkhan, in that he acted so much like him that there was no difference between them. So you pretty much got it, quirk

On the jungle retcon mess, Beth was a silly goose in blatantly ignoring plain clues in the PGE. I like MK's retcon I like it cuz its funny

MK left Beth on his own, IIRC, but he's done for hire work for OB and will for the next.

In the reflection of your glasses lies the luminescent screen of the television
projecting unto your synapses the distorted vision from behind the eyes of
corporate contrivances pleading between their cold metal fingers for control
which in your advertisement-enslavement you repay tenfold whilst the world
spirals into oblivion around your desensitized body and in this cacophonous
euphoria we all die and we all die alone.

I remember him saying in an interview on G4 "Gore is funny". I couldn't believe he said that. To me that's just so immature. But hey, look at some of the people who play games these days.

I'm not sure what to believe. In fact, I almost wonder if they did it for the sake of computers. A jungle would be EXTREMELY heavy on a computer. That would be a TON of things to draw.

Even though I don't know what to believe, I would rather go with the books than the game.
