UESP says they are a private army of Vivec's. Is that it, or do they have some special coolness to them? I mean.....do they actually follow Vivec's orders, or are they just a bunch of random worshipers?

"The Buoyant Armigers pattern themselves on Lord Vivec's heroic spirit of exploration and adventure, and they emulate his mastery of the varied arts of personal combat, chivalric courtesy, and subtle verse. The Buoyant Armigers serve the Temple as champions and knights-errant. The light-hearted Buoyant Armigers are rivals of the more solemn Ordinators in service to the Temple."

In the reflection of your glasses lies the luminescent screen of the television
projecting unto your synapses the distorted vision from behind the eyes of
corporate contrivances pleading between their cold metal fingers for control
which in your advertisement-enslavement you repay tenfold whilst the world
spirals into oblivion around your desensitized body and in this cacophonous
euphoria we all die and we all die alone.

Here's a good question: If Vivec be gone, what do the Buoyant Armigers do now? Do they simply carry out his original teachings? Have they disbanded? Or perhaps they all went Zero Sum on us. :P
Possibly...

They have to walk around the triangle for every second the world has existed in order to achieve their goals. And time isn't on their side. They have to speedwalk, or they'll get more seconds than they lose. Their completion of the triangle is one of the seven signs of the End of Divinity.

if you look at the class description in the construction set you'll see: "Samurai Poets"

still, I wonder where they got that name

Yes you should. And I think you are officially a Lore Buff in training, with B-rad Warrior Poet as your teacher. :P

No samurais had to come first, for ninjas would not exist without things to pwn, like pirates.

Personally I think the Buoyant Armigers would far better than the Ordinators after losing their gods and possibly the Temple. Based simply on what has been stated and from my perspective of them in the game, they seem almost less the religious warriors that the Ordinators are and more the philosophical warrior. Their lifestyle might not change much after it; they still have the teachings, and it might not matter to them if Vivec was or was not a god. The change mainly would probably come in who they take orders from, which with the disappearance of Vivec, would no longer be the Temple, and so I can see them as possibly become their own entity with in Morrowind, simply doing what they always have done, but with less emphasis on religion. They will probably take in the more hopeful Ordinators.

That is all speculation on my part, but I've been speculating in this area for quite a while as it relates to my new graphic novel(yes, teaser! :P).

I don't have much more info to add, except that they are based largely at Ghostgate, and I think it's possible they only exist on Vvardenfell, but I don't know that for certain.
The adventure starts here: The Chase
