The Nature of M'aiq; A lore reason for his odd behavior. :P

M'aiq the Liar is well known throughout both Morrowind and Oblivion. In Morrowind, he is the fishing Khajiit wearing a Colovian Hat who is fond of making fun of the nature of the game itself and what happens in it. In Oblivion, he appears to attempt to explain, in his own manner, why things are like that, while wearing a pair of tattered robes.

In Morrowind, he could definitely and absolutely be killed. However, even if such is done, he reappears, seven years later, in Cyrodiil, impossible to kill and with a whole new outlook on life. Why is this?

Perhaps there is more than one M'aiq. The mysterious Khajiit may, in fact, be of two different personalities. One appeared in Morrowind, attacking the rules/prohibitions of the game world. The other, in Oblivion, defended them. They are quite the polar opposites of each other.

Discuss, give your own ideas. :D

The second is in fact the firsts ghost and is this unkillable. In addition the developers bribed him to protect the game from MW fan boys.

He is either a fragmented aspect of Sheogorath, or he is the first Khajiit to achieve CHIM.

I know this is going to sound stupid, but what's CHIM? I'm not a Lore guy so explain.

Ok,in a very condensed nutshell, it is when a person realizes they are essentially a part of the whole, that they are the universe, but also that they are still able to maintain and understand that they are simultaneously also an individual. Like being one with everything but still being yourself. There are better and lengthier explanations, go look on the Lore Forums on the official TES boards.

One reason I stated that, is that by some peoples explanations, it is like realizing you are playing a video game, that the video game universe exists only for you, and you essentially are the only individual in it. That it all doesn't matter, and yet exists solely for yourself. But that's just some peoples opinion on it.

Oh god, no, don't use the "they realize they're in a game world" anaolgy.

In the reflection of your glasses lies the luminescent screen of the television
projecting unto your synapses the distorted vision from behind the eyes of
corporate contrivances pleading between their cold metal fingers for control
which in your advertisement-enslavement you repay tenfold whilst the world
spirals into oblivion around your desensitized body and in this cacophonous
euphoria we all die and we all die alone.

I think we are thinking too hard into the concept M'Aiq, but I'll bite.

I like the ghost theory. I always did find M'aiq creepy in OB.

Well it was more a joke anyhow, M'aiq is just a joke and essentially an easter egg. The only person that could achieve CHIM via the "realize they are in a vid game" analogy would be the PC, so it doesn't really apply to other characters in the game. I just thought it was funny.

Oh god, no, don't use the "they realize they're in a game world" anaolgy.
And I missed people dissing that analogy. :goodread:

I can't share my explanation, having personally struck M'aiq from the list of important figures on the lore section of uesp.

Easter Eggs shouldn't be considered lore, just like the lack of children is not lore.

While this may be true, Chimer, I think it is worth the fun.

Another thing: What if the invisible dragons he speaks of are the Jills of Akatosh? :P :P

No, we will Lore Nuke even the little island that he stands on, of course then we might have to take out half of Oblivion as well... but that might not be such a bad thing.

We'll nuke him every time he sets foot in Nibenay until the radiation causes culture and religion mutations that bring back the real Cyrodiil.

I think we will be at it for quite a while, but it'll be worth the effort if we can even manage to get one patch of jungle like rain forest to appear.

Lol, they used the wrong Nuclear Warheads, Bethsoft used up all their Lore Nukes already. Or they signed a secret non-proliferation treaty with other developers.
