Mercenary Search
Monster Kill
Given by Quirk.

Quirk:"[PC Name], it's good that you decided to stop by. Ever since some past incidents, I've been quite behind on my experiments with magic. However, I think I could progress farther on them if I could simply gain an assistant."

Player: Assistant

Quirk:"I can create a summoning to bring forth an Atronach that can assist me with my procedures, doing the manual labor and leaving me to the intellectual work. But, the work for a permanent summoning requires more than a simple spell. I'll need you to help me with it. Can you, my friend?"

I spoke to Quirk, who requested my help in obtaining an assistant for his magical experiments. He apparently will need my help for the more difficult parts of the summoning.

Player: No, I'm afraid I have little time to do so.

Quirk: "I understand. You obviously have more important things to tend to besides helping someone summon a Daedra. The option remains open, however, should you decide otherwise.

I told Quirk I didn't wish to assist him. He seemed disappointed, but told me the option was open in the future.

Player: Yes, I will gladly assist you in the summoning.

Quirk: Excellent! Don't worry, my friend, the difficult magical work I will be taking care of myself. The thing you need to worry about is the first step. You see, I must first obtain the heart of a more powerful Daedra in order to summon my assistant. Therefore, I'll summon up one Dremora I've become acquainted with: Nassazkh.

I told Quirk I would help him in obtaining his assistant. He informed me that the first step in managing to do this was to obtain the heart of a powerful Daedra. Quirk seems to have an idea of how to obtain one.

Player: Nassazkh

Quirk: Nassazkh is one of the more powerful of the Dremora I have come across in my journeys. However, he owes me for some assistance I gave him at one point. I would rather not explain, but needless to say, it is worth obtaining his heart. The problem is, he won't give it up without a fight. Therefore, I'll need you to take it from him when he appears. Be warned, [PC Name], he is as strong as I state. I would recommend preparing for this fight. Go obtain anything you believe you may need, and speak to me when you are ready.

Quirk advised me that Nassazkh was a powerful opponent, and that it would be in my best interests to prepare myself before the fight. I should speak to Quirk when I am prepared.

[Upon speaking to Quirk next]

Quirk: I hope you are prepared. I will go ahead and summon him now. Good luck, my friend.

[Quirk summons forth the Dremora Nassazkh. Should simply be a Dremora with slightly better stats than average Dremora, whatever weapon you wish, and the item Nassazkh's Heart.]

[Upon speaking to Quirk]

Quirk
: Well done, [PC Name]! We have completed the most difficult step of the summoning. Now, I need to prepare for the final part. While I do so, check in my closet. I have a small container, which has three materials which may be used for the ritual. Choose which of the materials you seek to use for the ritual, then bring it back to me, so I may finish. [Nassazkh Heart taken]

I have defeated Nassazkh and given his heart to Quirk. Quirk now must prepare for the final step of the summoning. I must now go to his closet and choose a material with which he will finish the ritual.

[In closet, container is opened. All three of the materials are present, which resemble Fire Salts, Frost Salts, and Void Salts as items, but bear no alchemical properties. They are named Volcanic Ash, Glacial Ice, and Magnetic Rock. All three may be taken, but only one chosen for the ritual.]

[Upon speaking to Quirk]

Quirk: Do you have the materials I need in order to complete the summoning? I have everything else prepared.

Player: No, I don't have any of them yet.

Quirk: Well, do hurry and get them. They are right there in the closet, my friend.

Path 1:

Player: Yes, I have the Volcanic Ash to give you.

Quirk: Ah, thank you, [PC Name]. Alright, I now will be able to summon myself a Flame Atronach. Stand back for a second, the area where he appears tends to get a little hot.

[Volcanic Ash removed, Quirk summons forth a Flame Atronach.]

With my help, Quirk managed to summon himself a Flame Atronach. He seems very pleased with the results of the work we have put into it.

Path 2:

Player: Yes, I have the Glacial Ice to give you.

Quirk: Thank you, my friend. I'll get the Frost Atronach here. I would recommend standing away, unless you happened to wear gloves today.

[Glacial Ice removed, Quirk summons forth a Frost Atronach.]

With my help, Quirk has managed to summon forth a Frost Atronach to assist him in his private studies. He seems happy with the results.

Path 3:

Player: Yes, I have the Magnetic Rock for you.

Quirk: My thanks, [PC Name]. I always did like a Storm Atronach. I recommend you move away. Either that, or stand on the wooden chair, perhaps.

[Magnetic Rock removed, Quirk summons forth a Storm Atronach]

I have helped Quirk in summoning forth a Storm Atronach. Quirk seems to already enjoy it, and is very happy with what we have managed to do.

[Upon speaking to Quirk]

Quirk: I can't thank you enough for your assistance, my friend.. Without your help, I would have stayed behind in my work forever. Now, I can hope to catch up soon. To repay you, I have a small trinket for you, from the remains of the materials you gave me.

Path 1:

Player: I will gladly accept your reward, Quirk.

Quirk: Very well, here you are. I think you will find it matches my minion rather well. Remember, I'm always here. Come by if you ever have any needs with soul gems, eh?

[Player, based on what minion they helped summon, receive either a Firey Glass Ring, an Ice Cold Band, or a Charged Metal Ring. The effects of each are simply 35% Fire, Frost, or Shock Shield, respectively. A boost in disposition with Quirk also occurs.]

I received a small ring from Quirk, created from the remaining materials from the summoning. It seems as if the materials have created a useful magical effect.

Path 2:

Player: No, I don't need anything in payment.

Quirk: Are you sure? Very well, my friend, but never fear, you shall always have my assistance when you need it.

[Reputation of player increases by 1, and the disposition increase with Quirk is more so.]

I refused the trinket Quirk offered me, accepting only Quirk's thanks.

Path 3:

Player: Actually, I wouldn't mind having a companion of my own.

Quirk: You also want a minion? Oh, of course I can help. With what is left from the ritual, I can summon you yet another minion. I hope you like Scamps. Have a good day, my friend.

[A permanent Scamp companion appears with the Player, and will follow him permanently until killed. A disposition increase also occurs with Quirk]

Quirk has given me my very own personal companion for my journeys. The Scamp appears eager to accompany me.

I Like Chocolate Milk
Fetch Quest
milk_is_white

[During Milk's dialogue, he will mention a Paint Guar. This topic might also appear in town rumors, so the player can ask Milk directly about the Paint Guar.]

Player: Paint Guar.

milk_is_white: "Have you seen it? I've heard there's one around here. Very rare, I've never seen one. They have colorful hides with big splotches, sort of like Paint horses. I'd love to have one for my farm, but it's probably wild and dangerous, and I don't have the time to wrangle and break a wild Guar."

Milk mentioned that he heard there was a rare sort of Guar sighted in the area--the elusive "Paint Guar," distinguishable from normal Guar by its spotted hide. While he would like to own or at least see the Paint Guar, Milk said that it was probably wild and maybe even dangerous. I'll have to keep an eye out.

[Talking about the Paint Guar enables the creature. Initially the Paint Guar is wild and will attack the player on sight with a more poisonous version of the Guar Burp. If you manage to calm the creature down before it kills you, you will get the option to milk it, which puts a bottle of Chocolate Guarmilk into your inventory and enables the Chocolate Guarmilk topic.]

You have tamed the elusive and wild Paint Guar!
[This message appears if the player tames the guar but does not have a bottle.]

[Journal without Bottle]
I found the Paint Guar Milk mentioned. After I managed to calm her down a bit, she seemed quite friendly. I bet I could even milk her if I had an empty bottle.

You have tamed the elusive and wild Paint Guar! She seems to like you, so you decide to milk her.
[This message appears if the player tames the guar and has an empty bottle.]

[Journal with Bottle]
I found the Paint Guar Milk mentioned. After I managed to calm her down a bit, she let me milk her. I bet Milk would like to learn she gives chocolate flavored milk.

Player: Chocolate Guarmilk.

milk_is_white: "You found her? Chocolate Milk?! Thank you, %PCName. Say, if she likes you so much, you think she might be willing to let you herd her into my Guar pen? If you can fetch her for me, I'll reward you with...well, I'll think of something."

[The quest path then forks depending on player decision.]

Option 1:

Player: "Sure, I'll get her."

milk_is_white: "Thanks, %PCName. You go find the Paint Guar again, and meet me at my guar pen."

I gave the Chocolate Guarmilk to Milk, who was very grateful. He seems to think that since the Paint Guar likes me so much, I might be able to bring her back to Milk's Guar pen. He said he'll reward me if I manage to fetch her for him.

[Accepting the quest will modify the Paint Guar to follow the player when you get close enough. Leading her back to Milk's pen ends the quest, disables the wild Paint Guar and enables the penned Paint Guar, completing the quest and updating the Chocolate Guarmilk topic so the player can get chocolate milk.]

milk_is_white: "Thanks a lot, %PCName. She's beautiful isn't she? I thought about your reward, and I've decided that since you found her, she's as much yours as mine, so from now, on anytime you like, feel free to come on down and get a bottle of Chocolate Guarmilk, on the house."

I managed to get the Paint Guar into Milk's pen, and he thanked me. As a reward, he says anytime I want I can come to him for a refreshing bottle of Chocolate Guarmilk, on the house.

[A bottle of Chocolate Guarmilk then appears in the player's inventory.]

Player: Chocolate Guarmilk

[If Player has no chocolate milk in inventory.]
milk_is_white: "Sure you can have a bottle. Here you go, fresh from the source."
[A bottle of Chocolate Guarmilk then appears in the player's inventory.]

[If Player already has chocolate milk in inventory.]
milk_is_white: "Well sure, but why don't you drink that bottle you have first before I give you another? You can have as much as you want, but let's not be wasteful."

[OR the quest can end early if the player decides not to fetch the Paint Guar for Milk.]

Option 2:

Player: "No, I don't think so."

milk_is_white: "No? Oh, all right. You're probably right, she's a wild creature, it wouldn't be right to cage her. Still, if she's as friendly as you say...well, maybe I'll get my own chance to own a Paint Guar some day."

I gave the Chocolate Guarmilk to Milk, who was very grateful. He then asked me to herd the Paint Guar into his pen, since she seemed to like me, but I declined. Milk was disappointed.

[Taking this option also disables the Paint Guar, so the quest cannot be resumed later.]

Alternate Quest Path - Killing the Paint Guar:

[Since Milk only alludes to the Paint Guar and does not specifically ask the player to retrieve it or the chocolate milk, and because the Paint Guar is hostile, the player may end up killing it. The Guar might also die if you are attacked and overwhelmed on the journey back to the Guar pen. The Paint Guar carries the unique ingredient "Paint Guar Hide" which can be looted from the body and used as an alchemical ingredient or in the Paint Guar Leather Armor Quest.]

I found the Paint Guar Milk mentioned. Milk was right, she's dangerous and attacked me. Unfortunately I had to kill her. I wonder if I should tell Milk?

Option 1:

milk_is_white: "Hey %PCName. Where's the Paint Guar?"

Player: "I killed the Paint Guar."

milk_is_white: "You what?! You killed her? %PCName, how could you? I don't know if I'll ever be able to forgive you. Please leave. Goodbye."

[The conversation abruptly ends with Milk, and the player takes a big disposition hit, making Milk not like you.]

I told Milk I killed the Paint Guar. He was very angry, and said he might not be able to ever forgive me.

Option 2:

Player: "She was killed on the journey."

[Option 2 will still be available even if it was the player that killed the Guar, and using it in this instance gives an alternate journal entry for lying to Milk, but saves the player the disposition drop so Milk still likes you. If something else kills the Guar, then the default journal entry will appear.]

milk_is_white: "W-what? Killed? Aw...oh, no. That's--that's terrible. %PCName, I don't want to be a bother, but do you think you could take me to her, please? I--I don't know, I feel like I should lay her to rest."

Option: 1

Player: "Follow me."

Milk delivers a sorrowful and heartfelt eulogy over the body of the Paint Guar.
[When Milk gets close enough to the Guar's corpse, this message will appear, and the quest ends and Milk returns to his normal routine.]

milk_is_white: "Thank you for bringing me here, %PCName. I suppose I should get back to work, give me something to take my mind off of this tragedy."

[Lie Journal]
I told Milk I found the Paint Guar and that she's dead, but I didn't mention I killed her. Instead I suggested something else killed her on the trip back. He seemed very sad and asked me to escort him to the corpse so he could pay his respects.

[Truth Journal]
I told Milk I found the Paint Guar and that she was killed on the trip back after we were attacked. He seemed very sad and asked me to escort him to the corpse so he could pay his respects.

[Milk then returns to his normal schedule.]

Option 2:

Player: "No, I don't think so."

milk_is_white: "Oh, all right. I understand, %PCName. I suppose we'll just have to remember her in our own way. Goodbye."

[This ends the quest abruptly, and the Guar corpse is disabled. Not taking the Hide from the Paint Guar before this point will also make the Armor quest unable to be completed.]

I told Milk I found the Paint Guar and that she's dead, but I didn't mention I killed her. He seemed very sad and asked me to escort him to the corpse so he could pay his respects, but I refused, saying I couldn't go back there.
