Just in today:

Quote:

Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard has revealed at QuakeCon that a sequel to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a long way off and as such is unlikely to be Bethesda's next in-house release.

The maker of the Elder Scrolls series as well as the hugely successful Fallout 3 had suggested in the past that it would return to Elder Scrolls next and while Howard’s comments suggested that may not be the case, he did offer the concession that an Elder Scrolls MMO was still a possibility.

Asked if an MMO was a possibility he told the audience at QuakeCon “there’s always a chance.” He did, however, confirm that the development team will not be making any more Fallout 3 DLC and that “we are working on our next big game but we are not talking about it.” So, what could Bethesda be working on? It’s already expanding into the publishing world with games like Wet and Rogue Warrior on the horizon as well as Fallout: New Vegas from Obisidian, but that still leaves the dev team with their hands free. Perhaps we can find out more at gamescom this week.

I think he's just pulling our leg, honestly. Something like this was said before Oblivion as well. I'm pretty sure like... four months or something before Oblivion was even announced, Todd there is no TES news to talk about. Don't quote me word for word, but I believe it was something like that.

Of course, back then Bethesda wasn't quite the cash cow that it somewhat is now.

Bethesda isn't a cash cow, they just release excessive amount of DLC, but they still make good games.

I think their quality has lowered slightly, but maybe you're right. I didn't mean an outright cash cow like M$ or anything... but I think their quality has dipped since Morrowind. Granted, FO3 is a very good game. Much better than Oblivion in my opinion.

Their ambition in terms of game quality took a dip after Daggerfall as well. Fallout 3 however indeed seems like a good sign. What with the DLCs and all, I'm happy they're not Maxis, trying to milk every last penny out of their products. Personally I think Maxis (or SABAM. That's the Belgian copyright organisation. Damn they're cash cows. Why should people pay to LISTEN TO MUSIC IN THEIR OFFICE?) is a bigger cash cow than Microsoft.

Well, Daggerfall was severly lacking in areas that Morrowind and Oblivion did much better. Variety, yes Oblivion had more variety in locations than Daggerfall.

Agreed. And I think they're moving onto the DLC bandwagon instead of releasing true expansion packs and that's why they release so much.

Dammit, Vanir...... I had an awesome daydream of me and Anne Hathaway on a private island. And then in the daydream you came in and murdered her, then asking for my hand in marriage.

Ah, sweet, thanks.

Although putting a picture of a map on there is laughable. I wonder if they're teasing us...

They still released SI, which I believe garnered much more attention and positive feedback for them. After that Knights of the Nine which is what I think a good DLC should be like, just maybe not $10 :P

Knights of the Nine was my favorite Elder Scrolls quest thus far. It was great.

I still would rather they made expansions as well as DLC. Bloodmoon and Shivering Isles kicked ass. Tribunal was fun too, but just not on as massive a scale as BM.

I never played Tribunal cause I had a bug at the very beginning of the quest and I could never get anywhere.

Bloodmoon was great though. Still, I wish I'd played it through once without cheating.

TBH I don't want a TESV in 2010. Maybe not even in 2012. It took four years from Morrowind and Oblivion and that's clearly not enough

In the reflection of your glasses lies the luminescent screen of the television
projecting unto your synapses the distorted vision from behind the eyes of
corporate contrivances pleading between their cold metal fingers for control
which in your advertisement-enslavement you repay tenfold whilst the world
spirals into oblivion around your desensitized body and in this cacophonous
euphoria we all die and we all die alone.

If it comes out in 2010 that would be five years in between :P

But in all seriousness I agree, I don't want a new one sooner if it means that it sucks....
