Seeing as I have found we have a few users running Linux I sought it fit to have a discussion thread for it!

I personally can't wait for Ubuntu 9.10! A student group at my university called Unix Users Group is gonna have a launch party next Friday!

Yeah, it looks exciting. Although, I'd rather work be done with Wine. I would find that immeasurably more useful.

Yes, Ubuntu is one of the more user-friendly linux distros.

@Ninja- It would be nice, but you can't really blame Ubuntu for that.

I second the Ubuntu for "less knowledgeable " computer users, I'm not exactly a computer pro myself and found it a lot easier than SuSe for example (started off with SuSe). It has more graphical interfaces and you don't have to rely on the command line so much any more (for basic use anyway..).

Yeh the issue with Wine.. it seems for some people some programs work, and for some people they don't, and I always seemed to fall in the last category :P In the end I only got a couple of old games running. I don't use it any more, just Windows for gaming (and other programs such as Corel) now.

What music player do you guys use?

I've been thinking of dual-booting Ubuntu on my Vista laptop. Question: could Ubuntu in that set-up access the files from vista?

No. Your files will be on Vista. If you want them on Ubuntu, You'll need to copy the files to some sort of external device then put them onto Ubuntu.

That would be the part of the C drive partitioned out to Ubuntu which is separate from the part of the C drive partitioned out to Vista.

Hmm... This seeming confliction is very reassuring. :D Well, worse comes to worse I supose I'll just have to move some files with my flashdrive.

If you're gonna get it, I would wait a week and let 9.10 come out first.

I use Rhythmbox too.. took me an age to find a player that would work with a Last.fm updater plugin AND the music plugin for aMSN. But then aMSN broke so it was practically all fer nothing.

I can access my entire C: drive from Linux - I guess you have to set that up somehow during partitioning. I'm not sure though.

How did it take you so long to find Rhythmbox? It comes pre-installed on Ubuntu...
