Author Greg Keyes is better known to me by his Star Wars Expanded Universe contributions, but as the writer on The Elder Scrolls: Infernal City, he's been promoted to "potential Bethesda informant."

A book blurb on the Waterstone's retail site reads "A novel that takes places forty-five years after the Oblivion Crisis, which is the story of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game and the expansion pack Shivering Isles. It partly bridges the gap for the next game, which is set 200 years after the Oblivion crisis."

So, assuming "the next game" in Oblivion continuity isn't a ZeniMax Online massively multiplayer online game, this might be a hint at an Elder Scrolls V. Although, to hear Bethesda's Pete Hines tell it, that's the natural conclusion anybody could draw from how well The Elder Scrolls IV sold.

Sounds like TES V might be coming along after all.

All I can say is 200 years is a really long time.

That's so wrong! You know, I always thought that the Oblivion Crisis screwed up a lot of stuff, but causing us to play again 200 years later? That's absurd! But yay! TES:V!

Dammit, Vanir...... I had an awesome daydream of me and Anne Hathaway on a private island. And then in the daydream you came in and murdered her, then asking for my hand in marriage.

It's not confirmation. And this is slightly old news. We don't know what's going on for sure. The Devs haven't said anything about it.

I'd rather have gone way far back in time than sped up, but then, maybe there simply isn't a good game story written into history at this point. I hope they have something good planned for us.

I'm kinda apprehensive, in truth. Image ACTUALLY going forward 200 years... :|

Nah, it makes perfect sense. After all, like Martin said at the end of the main quest. This is the start of a new age. The world is undoubtedly going to go through many changes, and I'm sure Bethesda just wants to have all that set in stone so the open world rpg aspect of TES V doesn't mess things up and create a bunch of problems like the ending(s) of Daggerfall. Besides, the only really interesting thing that I can see happening in that time is some unrest and possibly revolt amongst the provinces. Now, while that could be pretty cool, that's not really the kind of story that makes a good rpg, maybe an rts, but not an rpg.

I'm looking forward to it. They've got so much open to them. They could really make something in this.

And I am....

Ninja makes a good point. I'd love to see some inter-provincial tension/war... That could even mean travel between 2 or more of the provinces.

Oh, well, it's somewhat comforting to here.

Also, they could do like Fable 2 did and add in some technology to the mix. Steampunk TES would be awesome!

No! I want bows, swords, and magic! No guns or any crap like that! If they do that, I'm done!

Um...do you even know what steampunk is? It's a genre that combines technology and regular fantasy. There will still be bows, swords, and magic. Except there will also be guns. The best part will be the awesome Victorian-era architecture, though.

I'm serious. If they do that, I'm out. I liked The Elder Scrolls because it was medieval fantasy, not renaissance fantasy.

Really? I like TES because it's an open free-range rpg that is otherwise hard to find. I like TES for its gameplay, not its genre...I'm not that shallow.

Yeah, when it comes to sand box RPG's there's not a whole lot of quality. I won't quit a series because they want to add guns. However, I will be apprehensive.

Well, the genre was my original attraction. I was young at the time, and I didn't really understand the concept of free-form gameplay. And to me, it wouldn't be The Elder Scrolls if it had advanced technology, aside from the dwemer.

...aside from the dwemer.
That's a little hypocritical don't you think? The Dwemer are the epitome of steampunk. They not only have technology, they have steam-powered technology. How can you accept that, but not steampunk TES? In fact, I'm surprised that it's not steampunk already. Why hasn't the Empire started implementing uncovered Dwemer technology, yet?
