Then send the evidence to the judge. It's an easy conviction. We shouldn't be pumping money into a deadman.

Not really, since isn't he paying for it? Since you don't have healthcare there.

A judge can't convict him, though. A jury has to do that, the judge just decides the sentence.

Dammit, Vanir...... I had an awesome daydream of me and Anne Hathaway on a private island. And then in the daydream you came in and murdered her, then asking for my hand in marriage.

Haha. The justice system in America is far from great.

Same difference. Present the evidence to a jury, and if it really makes America feel better, let the family of the criminal heir a lawyer for him.

Yes, but it's better than some countries where if you're accused of something, you're executed, no questions asked.

waiting, being guarenteed a fair trial before a jury of your peers is far from great?

How do you rate military executions with no trial nor listed indictment.

But it's what makes this country great. Until an authority figure states someone to be guilty, they can't be called such.
actually not an authority figure, but even better: a jury of peers.

But same princible applies.

EDIT: Sorry i didn't mean to double post I should have copied this into my other post but, well... I don't know what I was thinking, sorry.

I won't yell over the double post, just remember next time ;)

Uhm you guys are missing that not all trials are by jury. You can ask to have the judge decide the case....

I thought that was only in certain cases, mainly non-criminal ones.

I've never been comfortable with the idea of the military not answering to the same justice system as everyone else.

This case would require a court marshal though :P

I'm sick of this statement. We are a republic! We never were and never will be a democracy.

Aren't they basically one and the same? Still if you want it to be precise, then I shall rephrase that.

It's principles like that that make America a republic, not a non-republic. (unpublic?)

We good?

Wouldn't a military court HAVE to deal with it since he's in the military?

Civilians were killed, though, right? Doesn't that take it away from the military courts?

I think it's still a military matter if a member of the military committed said crime, though I think it has to be whilst they were on duty. I'm no expert on military law, however, so don't quote me on that.

Well, as soon as you graduate from training aren't you 'on duty.'
