Hey everyone, for everyone that knew me a while back I kind of took an extended break from videogames. However, I've recently been on the game review sites seeing if anything interests me, and I kind of drew some parallels to Oblivion with it's open-world (correct me if I'm wrong). I really haven't done a ton of research, but do you think it's worth the investment for someone who is just going to play casually? I used to love getting immersed in these game-worlds, but I don't really have any time for it anymore. However, it does look very interesting and was wondering who has it/has played it, what you like about it, and whether it's worth the recommend to a (now) casual gamer.

Edit: If there is already a topic on this, feel free to direct me to it.

There isn't actually, we've just discussed it in video game discussion. But, my advice is you WILL get sucked into this world. The lore is intensely deep. The average gamer will spend around 50 hours beating the campaign, so if you feel like you can do that, I would say go for it. I'm thoroughly enjoying the game when I get to play it (my roommate basically plays non-stop in the dorm when he's here).

What game would you compare it to?

Hmm...so it's not worth it for someone who might put in a few hours here and few hours there. I need to have a dedicated amount of time for it right? It looks really, really fun though so I might just buy it anyway. What are the high points of the game?

No you can play it a few hours here and there. It will just take a long time to beat lol. The high points? Well Bioware made it so the storyline should be epic. It's based off of the old school epic PC RPG's where you have party members to work with and stuff, so that's a high point if you enjoy those types of games. The characters can be quite funny.

Alright well sorry if I sound so "noobish", I don't think I've picked up a videogame controller for anything other than Wii Sports or Madden for over a year.

Sidenote: I was really nostalgic and went through the site's old articles and interviews, I miss you guys.

@Sidenote: I've been going over the site the past couple of days as well lol.

You don't sound noobish. By the way, I'm going through Dragon Age by playing an hour here and there, so I think it's possible to do it that way.

Ah, Baldur's Gate...You were a shining jewel, the magnum opus of the rpg genre. I just loved the old D&D-based rpg games. I just wish Dragon Age used D&D rules. I'm still excited for it, and I'll buy it when (if) I have the money for it.

Uggh, I remember Neverwinter Nights as the very first RPG I played! If it's in tune to that I should be quite happy. Never got the chance to play Baldur's Gate though, is that one too dated now?

Bleh, Neverwinter Nights was terrible in comparison to the other D&D rpg games.

Well, Baldur's Gate did come out in 1998...

I've read about Baldur's Gate 3, and, honestly, it looks bad, real bad. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Baldur's Gate story.

Haha, I know it wasn't too great, but it was my first true RPG, so it's still something special to me.

Wait there IS a Baldur's Gate 3? ....

And Neverwinter Nights is kinda dated, too. There is Neverwinter Nights 2 which, if I could get to work on my computer (right now no character models show up), would be fine.

Its like Baldur's Gate. Its deep and takes time and dedication. Very good though.

So you've played it, Lettuce? What do you think about it? Someone told me its gameplay is similar to Knights of the Old Republic. Is that true?

I'm mad, I don't have any money to buy it with. Or Left 4 Dead 2, or Modern Warfare 2, or anything.

Dammit, Vanir...... I had an awesome daydream of me and Anne Hathaway on a private island. And then in the daydream you came in and murdered her, then asking for my hand in marriage.
