It's odd. Siara, becoming a mother, has lost her focus I think. Anki, having lost something she'll never miss - has now found the ability to focus.

And me? Hell, I'm just the scribe....

Hmmm, parenting does tend to alter one's perception of what matters and shifts the focus from the self.....as all parents know. Anki must feel a freedom as though a weight has lifted...

Yes....an enjoyable read....with avenues still available....

Ankeddi 23:

So I took Deni to the College in Winterhold. As I’d said to the family, I too needed schooling in what magic I had. But I also was determined to return with the rest to Hammerfell. And there was the Harbinger thing hanging over my head. I didn’t know what to do about it.... and instead of trying to find Aela and the brothers, I just left a note with a courier to deliver, bringing them up to date, and letting them know I’d try to send letters from Hammerfell as time went on.

I rode back to Falkreath, with Deni’s horse on a lead rope. There was just no good place to leave a horse in Winterhold, for more than a day, as I knew only too well. I left the mares with the new stable master (a cousin, after all), and headed for the Castle. I was tired, and missing Deni already. And I was worried about what we’d find at home, and what I’d do about the Companions.

Elgial found me as I walked out of the travel room. “Ankeddi, I need to talk to you a bit, if you please.”

Well, I didn’t please - but I could hardly say so right out! “Let’s get coffee - we can talk in the kitchen, unless it needs privacy? Ah. The Library then....” So taking mugs with us, we went into the quiet of the bookcase-stuffed room. It was dim in there, in general, but that was all to the good I thought.

“So then, Elgial. What’s toward?” Abrupt, but I wasn’t in the mood - in fact, I desperately needed food and sleep.

“I.... wasn’t going to Hammerfell. But then, I was reminded that you need some training in your Gift....”

Hmm. “I hate to be blunt. But you’re not - uh - this isn’t a ploy to get close to me in the way of a man and a maid, is it?”

He went sheet-white, and then bright red. Well, good then. “No no! I - ah - have someone already.... I hope. But she’s young yet....” And hard as it was to believe, he blushed even brighter. And I tumbled to the truth.

“Deni? Ah. Yes, she’s some years from settling I’d think. So, you’re offering to come to Hammerfell, give me the bits I can learn, see our home and try to keep from pining for a girl who’s five years from wedding and bedding. Fine. I’ll let Mother know.” I finished my coffee in a hurry, and stood.

“Look - I’m hungry and dead tired. If there’s more to discuss, we can do it on the road. I don’t even know when we’re leaving!”

He just nodded, still looking like too much sun had happened to his face. I left him finishing his own mug, and went to find my mother. She was actually in the kitchens, helping Lahar finish meal preparation.

“Elgial goes with us. He’s going to give me some training.” Again, abrupt. But I really was on the last edge of hunger - and I knew quite well once I had food, I’d be asleep in minutes.

She nodded and smiled. So that’s how he’d been reminded I needed something he could provide.

I grabbed some bread slices, and some meat and cheese, and slapped together a sandwich. I wolfed it down, waved at everyone, and fled up the stairs to the bedroom. I think I was asleep before I got to the bed - I know I didn’t undress. No dreams, no wereblood.... the relief was so huge, I could have slept standing.

Story continues in Return to Hammerfell

Oh that was great Sere!! Poor Elgial, to be embarrassed so, and all the while trying to deal with loving one that's too young yet. Perfect! (well, not for Elgial, LOL)

Thanks sis! Yeah, poor guy. He's not as old as might be thought, himself - around 18.... and pretty sheltered for all he's a mage - because of course, living under wraps in Bruma....

Thank you Kind Sir Rick! Next is all back together in one thread (probably in Siara's) - because no reason to keep these separate at this point....

Oh hey! Maybe I should start a whole new story thread, titled "Hammerfell Ho!"

[Kidding.... don't hurt me....]

Ankeddi seems to be a natural leader. Even if she doesn't know it, yet. :)

I could kick the Companions guys for bailing on Anki and Aela during the Ysgramor tomb quest. Fellas, put on your big boy pants and deal with it. Fantastic that she is rid of that curse.

Ah, the stories are coming together on the road to Hammerfell. I'm looking forward to it!

Yep. I've not done the quest line often, but when I have I'm like "YOU ARE SHITTING ME! What a couple of wimps."
