If you haven't completed the main quest of Oblivion, this post contains some minor spoilers Spoiler: click to toggle Tis a worldview that would turn Tamriel on it's metaphorical head, were only it provable. Yet nor is it disprovable; such as much TES lore it seems a matter of perspective. Perhaps we'll see this idea further explored in a future game, but in the meantime we can discuss it here. :beermug: Edited by Kohlar the Unkilled, Oct 21 2016, 02:48 PM.

Yes. Mundus in fact. Created by Lorkhan to enable those who cannot feel (Aedra and Daedra) to experience the thrill of life that only mortals can enjoy. The timelessness of the immortals is their curse and burden....centuries run seemlessly into each other with no sign posts, no hurdles, just eternal boredom. By creating the mortal plane of mundus and within it, Nirn, the divines could witness the passage of time...aging...and progress. That thrills them and is why Daedra (in particular) simply can not leave well alone....stimulating the one thing they can not experience directly...change. This we are told in various bits of lore. When Lorkham created this plane...to stabilise it...to crystalise it....he needed various divine powers to be applied. His so called "trick" was to persaude some of the divines to give up their power to make Mundus permanent and 'real'. But....that is a great sacrifice to ask of a god. A few voluntarily did so....most paniced and flew to Aetherius. The gods that did not volunteer their powers, but remained in the vicinity found their powers being drained regardless.....in their anger they tore Lorkhan in two (the moons being the result) and his heart fell into the land generating Red Mountain. Lorkhan is not dead in our understanding of the term....more like...deactivated. Now.... The wiley Daedra had no part in the creation of Mundus and chose to retain their full capabilities....knowing full well they would then be free to pop in and mess with mortals at their whim. Side note....the energies of divine creation swirled in an Aether during the formation of the Mundus plane and the physical representstions of those forces linger on as Transdimensional Fragments.....The Elder Scrolls. If I have some of that wrong in researched lore...my apologies. This is my current understanding :) |
