We had a different "party place" and by all right's it should have been haunted... The "closed" it down and blocked it off every few years when diver's got lost in the caves...generally people that had no business IN the caves in the 1st place. |

I love reading these stories. :) I grew up in suburbs, and there were never places around like these. |

The point wasn't really about any accuracy or lack thereof in the accepted version of Christ's birth. What I was getting to is that changing sucha a small thing as the time of day of an event changes the whole atmosphere of the event... I mean, doess "Silent Afternoon" have the same emotional weight as "Silent night"? I find it fascinating to look at moments in history that changed everything that came after, and wonder what might have been. It's not well known, but at the end of the US Civil War, Lee had the option to "surrender" the uniformed armies, while continuing an ongoing insurrection against Union occupying forces. He declined to do so, not because he felt there was no chance to win that way, but because he felt such an action would destroy both the Union and the Confederacy in the end. What if he HAD ordered the insurrection with guerilla forces though? Suppose then both the Union and the Confederacy had survived, but in a weakened state? How would that have effected WWII? Would Japan even have attacked, and if they did, WHO would they have attacked? Would the atomic bomb have been developed by Nazi Germany first? What would the world look like today? Such things give me hours of imaginative thought... |

Huh. I don't ever think about stuff like that. I guess if all this time later we were singing "Silent Afternoon" it would likely seem perfectly normal if we'd never done it any other way.... I'm a very literal sort of person - I don't automatically think about anything but a literal interpretation of statements. As for history it's not something I care much about - US history anyway. I'm much more into ancient history, but not from the angle of "what if this hadn't happened?" My imagination is wound up in fantasy, not reality or the changing thereof. |

Heh, it occurs to me that fantasy is, in the end, simply reality changed or altered in some manner... :) |

History is as unverifiable as the future. It is beyond our sight and we rely upon written works to explain how things were....if they are wrong....or deliberately falsified...we can't know for sure. Things we dig up corroborate the written accounts, often, but not always. Recent history is more accurate since we have visual recordings....but people still argue the detail. But what if for example the whole Roman Empire thing had not happened and they simply visited other countries....building the odd bath house here...making some of their own pottery there? Same archeological finds....but a whole different reality....hmmm? Just a thought. People digging up our history in centuries to come might believe we only ever ate at McDonalds or KFC....not at home! Edit....what the hell has this got to do with SSE mods? Talk about taking a side turning! .....Starts "Self flagilation session" Seems like these days we talk about everything....except Skyrim :-/ Edited by Rick, Dec 14 2016, 01:47 PM.

I don't know what it is, really... but why must modders always carry things too far? Yesterday (actually late the night before I guess) I downloaded and installed Elfenhanced Lighting and FX. I then started a new character, and guess what? I had to try to use casting "flames" to find my way through the Keep in Helgen... I have a video, but I decided against showing it because it's 95% black screen for about 15 minutes. After finally working through the keep tutorial, I finally get outside and... I can't see a damned thing at 6:30pm because the sky is overcast. The next day I went to Whiterun so I could buy "Candlelight" and afterward went to Redoran's Retreat looking to collect a bounty. Once inside the cave, even after casting candlelight, I can't see the damned dog that is chewing on my ankle... I just started indiscriminately casting flames until the dog quit biting (with a final "yark"). As the dog died, I was hit by the sword of the bandit I hadn't been able to see coming. He'd already been taking flame damage, apparently, so I finished him off and went into the boss fight area. Couldn't see the boss, his cook fire, or the other guy who hangs out down there, so I ended up summoning a flame atronach with the last of my magicka, and running for the door. Apparently the atronach lsted about 3 sceonds, and I was hit by an axe or something (no I don't know what, because I couldn't see it) just as I went out. I waited a long time out there, and went back in with a pre-cast candlelight. Still couldn't see a thing, but I heard the scrape as two guys drew weapons. I got out of there without ever seeing my foes, with about 5 health points left. Walked back to Whiterun as it started to rain, and I had to have a torch to see where I was going... at 4:30 in the afternoon. ELF Enhanced Lighting and FX became history shortly thereafter... I replaced it with "Vivid Weathers SE" which so far seems much better. ELF had some really good points, but a lack of adjustability for a way too dark world wrecked it. Even with my brightness turned to the max. |

Neil, add Imaginator to it... cause you can adjust several lighting issues... works well with most mods,... but funny enough not all "home" mods. |

thanks for the tip Areial... I think for now though, I'm just going to stay with the Vivid Weathers. It actually has menu adjusted lighting for both interiror and exterior. |

I had to change CoT back to vanilla settings for the lighting, but my game still has really dark nights and dungeons, thanks to the re-shader I have, which is set at default. Lord knows what things would look like if I'd chosen a darker setting! I now HAVE to carry torches and/or have candlelight to cast, but at least I can see. It's immersive, I'll say that, nights in the wilderness pretty much force my characters to camp! (this is all in SSE, lighting is just right in SLE game.) |

I like nights, caves, and dungeons to be dark... but there's a limit, and lights and spells have to actually function well enough to allow sight or it's the opposite of immersive. |

I do too neil, and the torches and spell DO work fine, so I'm rolling with it. Don't have to use them all the time, thankfully, just depends on the place and time. |

I'm not certain of it, but I think "True Storms" (or at least some of it) is actually incorporated into "Vivid Weather". |

I like my setting's with CoT..and Imaginator... Bright sunny days, dim-ish gloomy cloudy/ stormy days, some Night's and dungeon's need a light spell or torch, IF it's cloudy their is no light at night...if the star's are out, it's a dim light, but enough, moon's... nice and bright.. Aurora and moons.. very bright... with odd coloring. My characters don't travel at night unless they have to for a reason...lol |
