Eh, I won't be in for a surprise, because looking at it tonight, it's not going to be backportable. *shrug* I just wish the bozo mod author had fixed the issues with the LE version before he decided to lick the flavor of the month.

Well, mebbeso, but you have to remember that mod authors aren't paid in any reasonable sense of the word. It's not a career, it's a demanding, frustrating, and often thankless hobby the fruits of which are (if the author is lucky) enjoyed by quite a few people who contribute absolutely nothing.

Just one of those things, eh?

Well.... considering that this particular mod author is one I donated $50 to when I first started using the mod.... which was actually so long ago I don't have a frame of reference now.....

Dunno, but then I guess the question is whether or not you feel like you got your money's worth out of it... I mean, is the mod unplayable? Would your game be unplayable if the mod were indeed unplayable and never updated?

The value of a donation to the giver is always a bit of a personal thing, eh? The value of the fifity bucks is... well, how many hours did he spend creating the mod? How many hours testing it, fixing bugs, and testing some more? How many times did he have to rewrite his code? How many people gave him any amount of money, let alone $50? I'd guess not all that many gave more than two or three bucks.

I use the mod every day, on every character. It works great - until level 22.... when parts of it stop working. In between the time when I donated to the MA, and today - there were... NO updates or bug fixes, and he never addressed the MANY reports of the issue with stuff just not working after a certain level.

I use the mod to this day, and when auto loot stops working I just go on without it. But it seems to me that five years or so on, he should have done some bug-fixing. I really doubt that the SSE version is free of that same problem, though I haven't bothered to look for reports since I don't - and won't - use SSE.

The thing is, maybe he should have fixed it... but you don't really know why he didn't. Maybe he can't duplicate the bug. Maybe he has no idea what causes it or how to fix it. Or perhaps, he just doesn't care about that mod anymore.

I've seen many less complicated mods released only half finished, and abandoned before ever being finished.

It's also possible that it's caused by a game engine bug, and simply can't be fixed. Recall how long it took for someone to come up with a fix for the lip-sync bug.

I'm not certain this is where I need to post this, but oh well...

I'm having what I'm certain is some kind of mod related issue(s) with Nothing's game. The first one here is a large spoiler if you haven't done the Mehrune's Razor quest.

Those of you who fall into the astute category may recall that I mentioned a few days ago that I couldn't use the "Sanguine Rose", eh?

Well, in the end of the Mehrunes Razor you are faced with a decision.
Spoiler: click to toggle

So I was able to complete the quest in that way, which of course does NOT get you the dagger.

As far as I know, the only two mods I have that might change
Spoiler: click to toggle
in any way are the Monster Mod and the College of Winterhold mod. However, deactivating those two changed nothing as far as the CTDs were concerned.

Aside from that, Nothing is almost level 50 and has never had an in-town vampire attack, nor has the Dawnguard Orc showed up to recruit her. Nor do guards mention the Dawnguard being reorganized. Is that a function of LAL?

In her questlist I see a line stating that I should investigate the Dawnguard fortress, so I suppose if I want I can start the quest simply by showing up at the door, eh?

Any ideas?

I don't think LAL changes that. Timing is Everything does - if you mess with that setting. Yes, you can just show up in Dayspring Canyon, talk to Agmaer and run on up to the fort, and it should start the quest line. And actually, if you don't let Silus go, you still get the dremora attack.

Neil,

With regards to the CTD based on direction player is facing toward or away from a Dremora. That to me sounds like a mod that checks for player orientation to an NPC is in play. Perhaps an animation mod or other, like this new one https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/87635/? that's out for SLE. Don't know if you have anything like that in your SSE install, but would guess that would be a more likely culprit than one that just changes a Dremora Lord to look different or something.

Sorry not much help there. You may have to console the dagger if Nothing really wants it. ;)

Sere:
I've only ever finished that questline once before, and that was several years ago. I had no idea what the consequences of the choice would be.

Bram: The only mod I have like that is "head tracking"... but I'll check it out, thanks!

Yeah, that one's a "damned either way" one. And if you go in the door, there's two more waiting in all the swag at the back.

A little update here. I tried disabling my head tracking, but that made no difference. However, because I disabled an animation mod, I ran FNIS again, and while I was at it ran LOOT and rebuilt my Bash Patch, and when I got all done I can now use the Sanguine Rose without the crashes. I presume that I could if I chose redo the end of that quest, but I'm not going to mess with it at this point.

It works, so good enough, eh? :)

Im getting close to publishing Conina the Hairdresser for LE and SE at the same time (first time an SE mod wasn't simply a port of a pre-published LE one). It provides her as a follower, plus an option to build her a Salon in the small house/entryway at Lakeview.

To make life more complex, it has a "light" option for installation into an existing game, where you don't build the contents of her Salon, just issue a "setStage" through the console. So that makes it effectively five mods at once, if you count the XBox separately.

Nice ghastley!

Not so nice Arthmoor - he's dropping support for his town mods in LE the first of January, and concentrating on SSE. I'm not happy. I'm NOT moving to SSE for two reasons: first, I just don't like it; second I'm not going to have that CC crap happening behind my back.

So, I guess I'll make sure I have the latest versions of his stuff, and just keep them forever in various archives so I never lose them. He hasn't mentioned LAL yet, but I bet that's going away for LE too....

LaL has already been ported to SSE, I'm using it now... the funny (as in odd) part is that it wasn't Arthmoor who ported it....

It's always been the same though. the old gets pushed aside and the new replaces it until it becomes old and is replaced as well. People can complain all they want, but it won't stop the changes.

Nope, won't stop it. But I don't have to use SSE, so I'm not going to. There's no reason all the mods I have in file (hundreds....) will just stop working with LE so I don't have to stop using it or them.

Same.. though not hundreds and I will start downloading and checking some of the mod's I had before and see which work together and which don't... I had well over 400 mods and knew they didn't all get along.

When MA's don't support my favorite mods.. I will just make sure I have them all saved to a separate file and I'll only use what I can.
