I seriously started playing Oblivion last night (or at least I tried to start)... Something very weird is happening. In fact, it's been happening in Skyrim and Fallout 4, but not nearly as bad as in Oblivion. Here's what it is. If I'm in-game, and for some reason I click on a place where on my desktop an icon happens to be, the game is suddenly minimized and I'm looking at my desktop. In Skyrim and Fallout 4 it's not a big deal, a little playing with alt-tab fixes things right up and it never happens twice in the same session. Unfortunately with Oblivion, once it's minimized, the game goes to a black screen and does not seem to be recoverable. While trying to create a character, I'd get down to some point where I'd have to click on a menu button to move a slider or something, and it would minimize the game. I started noticing that the desktop mouse pointer would start appearing at the edges of the Oblivion window (and I'm playing full-screen) then the disaster would occur. After I finally got a character made, I got to the point where I'd shoot the found bow at the hanging bucket, and aiming the bow minimized the screen. Talk about frustrating! Anybody have any idea what's happening here or how to fix it? |

I get this with Skyrim. Can't ever minimize, I have to close out the game to get back to desktop. |

IDK... the only time I have something like that happening is when I bump the mouse and the arrow goes across the screen... as I use a 360 controller to play... it doesn't happen often, usually I end up with a "black screen"...then hit the "window's" button, the Desk top pop's up and I hit one of the squares to go to my main desk top screen and it goes strait back to the "black screen" and clicking on that it goes back to the game.. I then shut the game down correctly and re start. |

Neil, what OS are you using. Check settings for desktop in your control panel and make sure anything that says something like "Allow Click Through" is disabled, otherwise the OS will treat anything on the screen as "Click Through" allowing you access to buttons underneath it. This may be a setting in the Ease of Access control panel option. |

I know why Oblivion goes black screen after the window is minimized... Once Oblvion is minimized, the computer's resources are transferred to the desktop, and Oblivion has no built-in way to get those resources back. I just can't figure out why it's minimizing in the first place... With Skyrim and FO4, they can get the resources back if you have something else open, like I usually have FRAPS running, but even a file explorer window will do. Skyrim doesn't want to minimize in the first place (and that doesn't bother me) but if you suddenly start seeing your regular mouse pointer appearing, it most certainly WILL minimize then. To get rid of the mouse pointer, you have to click on the bar at the top of Skyrim's screen, then hit alt-tab whjich brigns up the other window for FRAPS or whatever. Then click on the title bar of THAT window, and then minimize that window. You will get a black-screen Skyrim, but after a moment or two the game will come back and be mouse pointer free. @ Bram I'm using Windows 10 Edited by neildarkstar, Dec 1 2016, 02:50 PM.

ah, win 10 is completely foreign to me, so I doubt what you're seeing is anything with control panel settings that I thought it might be. :( Hope you get it figured out. One thing I would check is what control keys are assigned to in Ob just to be sure one of them isn't accidentally doing something you don't want it to do. |

I haven't been able to find anything really helpful on the subject... I just now updated my Radeon settings, and set my AV to silent/gaming mode. Maybe that will help, but I dunno... |

Neil, Shot a dart into the darkness and found the article below. Seems Win 10 and AMD are not happy campers with each other sometimes after Win 10 updates. I doubt these particulars are related to your specific issue, but maybe there's something in there to point you in the right direction. :smash: http://www.drivethelife.com/windows-10/fix-display-video-graphics-problems-after-windows-10-update.html |

I didn't really find anything in there. I just updated my vid drivers, and so it's the latest stable version. Didn't fix a thing.
I tend to agree, since the issue runs across all of my Beth games apparently, only with different severity of result. |

I'm not having any issues like this with Win10 and a pretty good NVIDIA card (GTX 960, not the latest and greatest) - maybe dig around on AMD's site? I haven't used AMD cards ever.... so no real idea.... |

Not sure what the problem might actually be, since I don't know Windows 10, but would hiding the desktop icons serve as a workaround? |

I played it for a couple of hours last night (or tried to), and I'm uncertain exatly what is going on. It's more complex than simply the icons though, for certain. I can't use my bow. I can equip it, but if I try to draw the bow to aim, either nothing happens, or instant CTD. I can save the game using quick save, but a manual save is instant CTD, and CTDs are generated during combat as well. I think because I'm holding the left mouse button when swinging the sword, and the character is moving at the same time. The CTD's do NOT close out the game however, they simply minimize Oblivion leaving it in an unresponsive, unrestorable state. |

Wow, that sounds like it's completely borked. Strangely, looking around online it seems the main problem with windows 10 and Oblivion is just starting the game. You don't have any Aero features in windows 10, do you? |

Me no like, no want, will no HAVE Win10, ever! Seriously, no matter that some love it and never have problems, they can't pay me to have Win 10. I'll stick with and be very happy with my Win7. |
