One - Insertion:

Tankot made it into Falkreath without issue, taking two nights to get there and finding down trees to curl up in during the day. He crawled into the straw in the stable until daylight, and nearly frightened the stable hand to death as he seemed to appear before him from thin air.

“I’m Tankot, I have been traveling with the Alf’agars - but I need to go to Markarth for a bit before I meet up with them again to go on into Hammerfell.” He hoped the man didn’t see through the half-truths....

“Aye, well then. Warn a body next time before you jump out of the straw, boy!”

Tan nodded, and went out to sit beside the carriage until the driver showed up. And then it was about four days into Markarth. He chose not to go into the city - it was a looming, ugly place to his eyes. So since it was only mid-morning, he slung the bow and his gear about himself and headed toward the place he needed to go.

If he hadn’t come across the dead Khajiit thief right on the doorstep of that cabin to the west of Riften a couple of years back, he wouldn’t have known any of this. But he’d found a little note on the thief, which mentioned a vision he’d seen in the cellar of the house, and that the thief had planned to “follow the traces into Hammerfell’s Alik’r”. So he’d picked the lock on the door and slipped inside, let his eyes adjust to the gloom, and then found the cellar.

On a dresser was a strange statue, the head and shoulders of a man with a strange mask. Something about it prompted him to touch the statue.... and having done so, he was unable to move while a - drawing displayed right on the air in front of his eyes. A map? Apparently so - with lines in various directions - from a central spot that was definitely not the cabin.

When his normal vision returned, he realized he didn’t know enough about Skyrim to figure out where the place was. So he went back to his normal daily activities keeping himself alive. And then he went with Siara to the Castle with the other orphans she rescued, and there he found books (which he could read a bit though not with facilty) and maps.

He stayed at the Castle only long enough to realize from the fancy travel room map that his memory of the center of those lines was not too far from Markarth, in the northwest of Skyrim. And then, he took himself off to Whiterun to talk to his parents one more time - the outcome of which was.... disheartening - well, more than that, and he didn’t think about it much if he could help it.

And now - finally - he was on his way to where that thief had found out how to get into the desert. Hopefully, at the end of this game whatever it entailed, he’d have a place the family could go without causing tribal wars - about which Selalla had been very concerned, with good reason. Even he knew how bad that could be....

He found a small cave for overnighting. He still had some of the sandwiches he’d taken from the camp, and ate one with some water to wash it down, then curled up in his bedroll to sleep.

In the morning, he headed in a southeasterly direction off the roads, feeling safer sliding into shadows and under cover in the brush. About mid-afternoon, he was looking at a neat house perched off a road just a bit. He climbed its steps to a small stoop, brushed his clothing off a bit - fortunately it was leather and didn’t show dirt much - rapped on the door, and then entered.

A woman looked up, disconcerted. A man sat at the table behind her, reading and paid no attention.

Her voice was sharp. “Who are you?”

Well, let me just explain up front that this mod begins by assuming (as so many do) that the character is the Dragonborn. So I'm having to write around that, first off. And second, the explanations that will be made are going to make not too much sense to Tan for a while....

Thanks, sisses! Yeah, I've played this mod before, but this will be a different perspective. Tan's not "adult" by any means in OUR world - but.... he's been on his own for years in Riften. And he managed quite well, developing a variety of rogue skills without getting involved with the TG - AND without getting busted.

He's.... not an innocent....

Sometimes those are the best characters, they have a perspective that other's often can't or don't understand... and are more often than not...the most interesting.

I have to say you're right. He's - absorbing - in a way. I don't like his character look - but I don't have to see anything but his back, so it's okay. I looked at some of the playable kids mods.... just couldn't go there. So - it is what it is, I see him in my mind as he IS.... not as he appears in game.

And he's not adult (which is fine). I could not possibly play him in this mod as an adult...

hmmm I think if I was going to do a male child... Breton... Better males ( never nude version...cause...) Fine Faces look at the second picture... the Elf.. Breton faces a round.. even at the lightest weight and short height.. a child ( tween-teen) is really possible.. Nord might be with a higher face weight.. Redguard...hmmm paler complected.. yeah it could be done...

Not that you'd want to change Tan or anything... but the wheel's went to churning!

Heh. I probably should have asked you first - but well.... what it is now will do. It's just to play through so I remember (since I haven't played it for a long time) and the whole point's the RP and the story.

True that... about the RP and story.. Any time Sis... I have no issues with giving my 2 cent's or creating a character and slider settings.

I know it - and thanks! I'll probably wind up hitting you up for it at some point down the road. Not Tan - because I know how all this winds up (heh, since I'm like - writing it.... and this time I actually HAVE a plan [which is not always a given believe me!]

But since I have the most fertile imagination in this century.... yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll need your "services" at some point!

[[Oh, do you know how to export .jslot files from racemenu presets and how to import them to showracemenu? You most likely do - but I have run across a few folks who never knew how that works....]]

umm actually no, which is why I lost so many of my characters preset's... That is something I would actually like to know.. That and how to make the CK work to get my characters to look the way they do in game.

Eh, can't help you with the CK bit, sorry. But for the presets....

When you finish a character and name it - that's the "set point". Once it's a "viable" game character, and you're IN the game, save (so you don't wind up getting whacked and NOT having a save....) and then open console, enter racemenu, and hit F5 (that's the save preset hotkey). Give the preset a name.

Then when you want to look at presets while in chargen, hit F9 which will load all save presets.

You can actually see the presets you have saved. The path is something like (in my install setup) D:\Program Files\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\CharGen\Presets - just dig around through your install folders to find the SKSE\Plugins\CharGen\Presets folder.

The really cool thing is that you can just ship any one of the .jslot files to someone else who uses racemenu, and it's instantly importable, and will tell the person what mods they need or don't have to make it exactly the same.

And - I'm a bit rummy tonight so if that doesn't make any sense, pm me and tell me where you got lost, and we'll fix it, 'kay?

LoL.. ok

Edit: I found the files...and I'll try and get all my "manual" saves their also.. by creating each character one by one... For instance, Adella is a saved file...cause I lost all my preset's... so I could only get her ( and Kaylea) back by firing up the save and then fiddling with the load order til I got them correct.. though I didn't do a preset again for Adella...and I need to... I can probably send that to Rick... though w/o race menu, I'm not sure that it would be perfect or not.

And be sure you back up that folder to a stick or something on a regular basis!

Two - Exposition:

“I am Tankot. I have no other name. I have been living with a Redguard extended family, the Alf’agars, after my parents refused to - ah - care for me, leaving me on my own to a life of thievery in Riften.” Tan had decided to be absolutely truthful - especially after the woman’s sharpness.

She had an odd accent, he thought. She wasn’t Redguard. In fact, she seemed Breton or perhaps Imperial.

“Hmm. How did you come here?”

“I found a small house to the west of Riften a couple of years back. There was a dead Khajiit there, and on him was this note.” He handed the woman the note. “I went in and found the vision he described. But I didn’t know until just recently where to find the center point - which is this house. Eventually I discovered it was near to Markarth. So I came here. I am hoping that you can help me get into the Alik’r - like the note says.

“The reason: the Alf’agars took me in and cared for me. They wish to return to Hammerfell - but prefer the Alik’r to where they formerly lived. The matriarch of the family does not wish to cause tribal war by moving into already settled lands....”

She thought for a moment. Then, “Please sit. Be comfortable. I will tell you the story. I am Seviana Umbranox, a descendant of Corvus Umbranox, who was the Gray Fox, the legendary leader of the Thieves’ Guild in the Imperial City two centuries ago. He is wrongly thought to have been immortal.

“It’s not like that though. The Gray Fox over the centuries has been many different people. Yes, I can see the question in your eyes. Didn’t anyone notice when he became a different person?

“No. Because of the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal - which makes the wearer look just like the previous wearer. That is why the Gray Fox is believed immortal. It also makes the wearer a master of the art of the thief.

“It is told in my family that after Corvus, the Champion of Cyrodiil became the Gray Fox. The Champion, just before dying, gave the cowl back to Corvus to care for while waiting for the next Gray Fox to appear as there was at that time no one worthy in their estimations.”

Some while later, Tan left Seviana’s house in possession of an unusual arrow (she’d called it “The Arrow of Extrication”) and vague directions to something known as the Hall of Initiation. According to her, he was now considered the potential successor to the last Gray Fox, the Champion of Cyrodiil.

He was skeptical, but supposed it couldn’t hurt to see what he could discover - and perhaps this was the only way to find a safe holding in the Alik’r. It was all pretty nebulous though, Tan thought.

A week later, he’d wended his way back into Falkreath Hold, and was approaching The Eye of Cyrodiil, which supposedly held the entrance to the Hall of Initiation. There were several doors into towers which stretched their fingers to the sky; it was a menacing installation, and Tan wasn’t sure he really wanted to enter the towers. But since he was there, he decided to see what could be seen. In any case, it was getting late - at the least a tower should provide better cover for a rest and food.

Very good read... the Tower males me wonder...One way door?...

I have never done that mod... need the right Thief and I was kinda waiting for Envy's mod to be done... but I have not seen anything lately. Lucien is meant to be a thief and I might go there.

Scary Sis, for one so young! I've not played this mod, so I'm looking forward to it, though I know I won't see the whole of it. Tankot is, like Deni, matured far beyond his years from the life he's had, and I love his character!

Thank you ladies!

Yep, this isn't how it plays out if you play it straight (well, I didn't myself because I never steal or pickpocket - but the cabin in The Rift is an alternate-start sort of thing....) - but once into the major questline, it will be pretty close to the way it's "supposed" to be.

The annoying thing is that mannyGT set it up as a given that the character is the Dragonborn. So I'm having to "rescript" around that.... It's all just references IIRC - being Dragonborn isn't really necessary (I think. Hope. If it is, I'll have to tweak Skyrim Unbound until Tan's story is done....)

I hate having to trigger being Dragonborn when I don't want it for whatever reason. It annoys the hell out of me!
