There's not (AFAIK) an "age" limit on it. But in my view - Tan has to be at least old enough to marry. Which in my mind I've settled at 17 - so about 2.5 years. He doesn't actually know how old he is - his shitty parents (and you can all choose for yourselves which of the RGs in Whiterun they are....) didn't tell him when he was born, and all he knows is that his mother left him in Riften when he was "around" 6 (going by his estimate of other children's sizes and ages - mostly the orphans at Honorhall....)

So, he's got some age to put on - and if/when he finds the Cowl.... well, you'll have to wait and see!

Y'know, I kinda like Amren, but the rest of the reguards in Whiterun need a serious greatsword enema...

Last night I was playing, and I was going to use an animation on Braith (Amren's daughter, I think) Anyway, I discovered that my character doesn't like mouthy kids, because instead of casting the animation she punched Braith right between the eyes... then the guards started sending arrows her way (without even asking her to pay a fine... rude, eh?) so my character's now on the run and headed for Winterhold.

Actually, not "nicer kid" - couldn't have happened to a more deserving brat!

Sere,
There's your "taking it literally" gene kicking in again. <snerk.>

The expression "It couldn't have happened to a nicer (insert target)" is a phrase which is ALWAYS meant sarcastically.

The "nicer" is therefore the exact opposite of the intended meaning.

Um. No. When I use that phrase, it's generally in reference to someone having received something wonderful, and truly deserving it.

I've heard it both ways... just a matter of colloquialism and semantic use I suspect, and one is as accurate as the other depending on the speaker and where you are.

Hmmm, as you wish, I can only say that over here I have never heard the expression as anything other than a sarcastic dig at someone who is not liked.

Six - Impulsion:

Waking suddenly, Tan was unsure for a moment where he was. Finally he began to remember what was going on. He sat up cross-legged on the pallet, and stretched a bit - not that he wasn’t used to basically sleeping on the floor or ground, but it did even at his age make one a bit stiff.

In a few minutes, he rose and went to the fireplace in the main room. A woman motioned him to a table where he ate bread, cheese, and drank small ale. Then he looked around the keep, being curious as to what else was there. The lower level down the set of stairs from the center of the room contained a large pool of water, in which a couple of people were bathing. He thought that would be a good thing, though it would be better with clean leathers. Still, a clean body was better than the dust and sand of the desert....

After a quick bathe, Tan headed back to the main level. There were two more rooms: one to the left as he walked up the stairs, which he thought was a sleeping area for the people who manned the fortress; and one behind him, off of the wall which also included the stairs up to the second level.

He wandered down a tunnel into the other room to discover it held several gravestones - and a huge marble tomb. There was an inscription:

Here Lies Caio Umbranox

Hmm. So Seviana’s ancestor was buried here. Tan wondered if Lady Syloria was descended from the man as well as Seviana. And then he wondered if they knew each other.... On that thought, he climbed the stairs to find the Lady.

She had just finished day meal it seemed. Motioning him to a chair, she poured ale for both of them.

“You have something further to tell me, Lady?”

“Yes. I do. I must explain to you about finding the Mausoleum. You see, it’s not hard to find it physically - it lies in our isolated, enclosed area not far to the northeast, beyond a canyon which will bring you to the oasis of Mora Sul. Caio Umbranox prepared everything you will need to reach it.

“But before you go to Mora Sul, there are two things which must be done first: find the special key to the gate into the canyon - it is held inside the Temple of Al-Shedim; and second, recover the "Friend of Ancestral Cheetahs" amulet.”

Tan sent a startled glance toward Lady Syloria. “Ancestral Cheetahs?”

“Yes. They seem to be specific to this part of our desert. Please do not think that your skills in stealth will keep you from needing this amulet. The oasis is full of Ancestral Cheetahs. Without the amulet you would not last a minute against their supernal senses or their fangs and claws. And of course, there is the wall which will not allow access to the Mausoleum if you are not wearing the amulet....”

“Ah. I see.” And he did - there was always some trick, trap, or tangle which had to be dealt with.

“Both places, the Temple and the small canyon where the amulet can be found, are north of here. Now, on your journeys here, do your best to avoid the Dunerippers - they are quite deadly. And - there is another place that is important for you - you personally, though I do not know why. It is an ancient Alik’r temple to the northwest, peaceful and quiet inside, once you avoid the Dunerippers surrounding it.”

Tan sat thoughtful, contemplating what he’d been told. “Lady, the woman who sent me here was a descendant of Caio Umbranox. Are you, as well?”

She nodded but said nothing.

“I see. Well, before I set about this search for the key and the amulet, let me explain a bit why I came here.” He laid out the entirety of his life for her, mincing no words. He told her about the Alf’agars who had taken him in to give him a home, and about the Khajiit dead at the small cabin in the Rift.

Looking her straight in the eyes, he finished “I am here mostly (beside curiosity of course) because the note on the Khajiit’s body indicated a way could be found into the Alik’r. I am hoping to find somewhere the family can move into the desert where they will not displace anyone else, nor start a tribal war. They do most sincerely wish to return to Hammerfell - but to their roots in the desert, not to the cities....” He waited upon her response.

Her eyes lit and a small smile - the first he’d seen from her - curved her lips. “First, let me ask what you think we should do now that our mission is nearly over? Should we go into Skyrim? What is it like?”

“It’s frigid cold, and there’s a horrible civil war ongoing, with brother fighting brother, and one of the Jarl’s murdering the High King.”

She was disturbed. “Oh. That does not sound comfortable. What then of Cyrodiil?”

He shook his head - two centuries had left these folk unprepared for the world today. “The Thalmor are running things throughout Tamriel these days. If you’re not Altmer.... well....”

“Ah. Well. Perhaps we will simply remain here in that case, until the world rights itself. In which case, to answer your carefully not asked question: there would be no reason your folk could not come here - there is enough room for many more than actually remain here; and our Redguards are not bound by tribal relationships. Once you have finished this quest, we will speak of this again."

Tan stood, and bowed deeply. “I thank you, Lady Syloria. And my family will thank you as well. We are in your debt.”

“No debt is incurred, Tankot. You are here to accomplish something centuries in the waiting. I am happy to welcome you, and your family.”

He gave her the honor salute, hand to head to heart, bowed again, and went downstairs to begin.
