Thanks sis! Eh, I'm sneaking him around the "bad stuff". And some of it I'm not going to detail anyway since some of you may want to play the mod.... |

Thank you neil. Yes, this mod is full of "tricks, traps, and tangles" not to mention intrigue. I'm basically playing it as an insertion into the desert without setting off a war - but the mod itself is WAY more involved, and infinitely more fun, than it seems from what I'm writing! |

Thank you Kind Sir Rick! I like Tan - but it's kind of hard to write him, because I really have NO experience of young males IRL. And adding a fantasy world to that means it's probably not - really working well. Still, the point is the story (for me) - not whether it's a perfect representation of a boy on the near edge of manhood. Especially since - Tamriel is a VERY hard world.... and children (even more so when they're abandoned children) aren't what we think of as childlike. Have you ever wondered why the kids run like wild things through the streets? I have.... and I think - it's because if they stop to think.... they may never move again.... |

Sere, Young males 101 Think of sex very often...it is testosterone Get angry for trivial reasons......it is testosterone Feel a need to demonstrate prowess and ego to peers.....it is testosterone Preen around girls and show off for them....it is, you guessed it ! But Are not as confident inside as they try to show and Fear ridicule...by girls.! Often over reach their capabilities on a learning curve Do not take adult advice well Hope this helps :) An...ex..teenager |

Well.... thanks.... but this is Skyrim and Hammerfell, not western culture. Yes, I get the congruence more or less. But.... any sex interests for Tan would be back in Skyrim - there are no children in this mod. And.... hmm.... I'm pretty sure he's not into older women..... So we'll leave that out of the equation for the nonce I believe. [Just as a point of order..... all of that is - in my experience - about the same from the fem perspective, btw....] |

Seven - Embarkation: Tan took time and care preparing to set out into the desert. He talked to several of the Redguards, ending with Arenar, about a possible map of the area. Arenar found some paper and charcoal, and made a rough sketch. He placed a large building north of the village, and a smaller one northwest near the edge of the map. He drew the oasis to the east. “I do not know more than this. And the others have not explored as much as I have. So you will have to fill in other locations as you find them. It will be a good thing, I think! Did the Lady mention the Dunerippers?” At Tan’s nod, he went on “They are not the only things to be wary of - the desert wolves are not hard to kill, but they are never alone. There are never less than a pair. And - there are other desert denizens. Be careful, my friend!” “Thank you for the information, Arenar. I will be careful, and I will add to this map. I will see you again soon.” Tan wondered why they hadn’t done much exploring - they’d had two centuries of living here, after all; but he didn’t ask. After rolling the map and tucking it into a case, he found a knapsack and put into it enough food for two or three days. Then he went into the village and filled his bota from the fountain. There was a horse for sale - but he chose not to ask how much. Usually horses were high in cost, and he hadn’t brought one of the family’s stock with him, nor many septims. He thought about using the portal - but he doubted the horse would be willing to return with him through it, and besides, it was inside a building.... and not a stable! So, on foot it was. But he needed different clothing. His leathers were far too warm, as he had discovered when following Arenar Esdrecus at a run. He went into the Last Sentinel, the shop near the Black Mesa inn. There he found a set of gear such as those from the fort wore, and had just enough septims to buy the garments. They were not armored, of course - but then his leathers had little protection either. He would have to make use of stealth rather than fronting dangers and enemies full on. That suited Tan just fine. He wasn’t a coward - at least, he didn’t think he was - but he was also young, and far more likely to live to be older if he used the way of the thief.... He thought hard about where to head first. And it seemed after a few long moments that going back to the one other place he knew in this desert would be best - so he set out for the canyon in which was located the Halls of the West. This time, he would look closely at everything in the area, both on the way (NOT at a run) and in that canyon. If there was a way to accomplish the necessary, by stealth and luck rather than combat, he would find it - if he was careful and discerning. As he headed into the shimmer and heat of the desert, again he had that feeling of “home”. And since he had no other name (he could not take his father’s name, and even more he could not take his mother’s - she who had abandoned him to a life of marginal existence and petty thievery), he said aloud, breaking the deep silence of the hot and dry desert air “I will be, if I live through this, Tankot Desertborn.” A strange feeling of peace washed over him, and he set out with a good will into the desert where he felt so at home. Thank you sis! I'm actually loving Tan, though playing him is - awkward - for me. I don't - relate - to guys in a game.... But oh well, it's only once. |

Tan speaks to me. I'd love nothing more than for the next TES game to be in Hammerfell, so I can role play a Redguard in the desert. |

You know Kane.... that's what I want too. I really love my Redguards, and they've become my new favorite race to play. When I ran whoever it was through this mod the first time I played it (wasn't Siara, might have been Kiramah) I really wanted to have a wonderful player home there and just live there.... The little house you can buy in Ben Erai isn't big enough and has no goodies for storage; and Al-Janna is just not my thing. I really want Cynn's Oasis put into that modded corner of the Alik'r. Maybe I'll talk to her after the first of the year.... |

Eight - Exploration 1: Tankot took his time getting back to the Halls of the West. He found a campsite - probably Arenar’s for hunting, since the man had been near it when they’d met. There was a little food in satchels and sacks; he took it, thinking he might need a bit more. Behind the tent was a strange bright blue light; he took a close look, and finally decided it was some sort of fountain. Touching the light produced a warm feeling of health. Had he been hurt, he thought it might have helped to heal. A good thing to know, and he wondered if this was the only one - if so, perhaps that was why Arenar’s camp was just here. By midday, he was walking up to the steps at the Halls of the West. Tan knew he wouldn’t be able to go back to Skyrim that way, so he didn’t backtrack through the exit corridor. He settled to the top step, and ate a bit, then drank some water. After resting for a little while, he started looking carefully at the walls of the canyon. He thought he could climb a fair distance up them; hopefully the walls that seemed to encircle this part of the desert would allow for him to avoid the denizens of the sands - he was good with a bow, but he didn’t want to have to kill his way through the whole area. Eventually he left the canyon and headed along a ridge-wall which ran east and west a distance out into the sands. He would have to get beyond the ridge before starting north to find the temples marked on the sketch-map. He considered whether he wanted to go to the one in the far northwest corner first; but that was the one the Lady had said was something to do with him alone, not finding the amulet and key. So he thought he’d leave that until later. Finally he came to the east end of the ridge-wall, and turned north. He could see to the northeast a very large bluish building. That must be the temple where the key was hidden. But where might the amulet be then? He thought it would be wisest to work his way around to the northwest even though he would be leaving the ancient temple unexplored for now - because at least he’d have protection by climbing the rock of the desert basin’s enclosing walls. He began to sketch on the map as he discovered features - such as the strange edifice which upon closer look was like many of the dwarven towers in Skyrim. Tan had to kill two of the desert wolves near the tower - they’d appeared almost out of nowhere. He’d been able to scale a jutting ridge where they couldn’t get at him while he rained arrows on them. It was getting late by the time Tan looked down from another ridge to the old temple. He was able to make out Dunerippers around it. That would be for another day. And with that, he settled his back against the warm rock, ate and drank, and then slept. He didn’t remember waking through the night, so apparently the desert’s denizens hadn’t sensed or smelled him. Ooh, he has to be able to climb well, and a good thing it appears that he can, and won't be lunch for the dunerippers! You're making me noervous with hm though! :D Loved it Sere, can't wait for what's next! |
