Very nice... it's always good to meet strangers that are willing to help.

Thanks! Well, the one thing about mods like this one is that you tend to know you're only going to meet enemies in certain given areas....

Seventeen - Implication:

As usual there was a Duneripper right where Tan needed to go, in this case pacing around the actual canyon mouth. So he turned north again, and scaled the mesa which rose over the canyon on that side. Once hidden from the Duneripper’s view, he sidled to the east over the rough rocks, and then down to the canyon floor well past the desert beast. He was getting a bit tired of all the sneaking around - just one more reason to think he probably wasn’t cut out to be the Gray Fox after all....

If he had his choice, what would he choose to do, to be, to become? As Tan walked deeper into the canyon, he pondered that question. He would be considered a man in his culture in another year or so. It was time, and past, to think about things like this. Well, perhaps it would need to wait while he finished what Lady Syloria expected of him....

However, the canyon was as quiet a place as he’d been in a long time now. There was no wildlife - he wondered where the cheetahs were, but decided he should keep the amulet around his neck for now. And weren’t the implications of this canyon interesting? It was no different than other canyons in the desert - the one he traversed from the Halls of the West, the one into the canyon of the cheetahs where he’d retrieved the amulet.

But this canyon was.... different. Very much so. A difference in feel - as of much age and calm here; and a difference in - what would be a good word? - presence perhaps.... as if this was.... very far out of commonplace time. At that Tan shook his head; he was becoming fanciful. Perhaps it was time to eat something!

So he ate and drank and relaxed a bit for the first time in far too long, he thought. He wondered how it was for boys who were just - boys. Who had families, and safety. Then he thrust that behind him - he wasn’t just a boy, and he hadn’t a family - well, yes, he did, but yearning after his “real” one wouldn’t get him anywhere.... And anyway, Siara and Andur, all of the Alf’agars - were more family than his real one ever had been! But of course, his head couldn’t overrule his heart. Well. It was as it was.

He went on, and somehow his heart was more in tune with his actual life. It would be many years before he would understand that, have any concept of what had happened to him in the canyon. But he would carry the knowledge in some deep part of himself - and that knowing would shape his future.

Finally, the canyon debouched into the actual oasis - and a beautiful place it was, planted in the arid desert as if a plaything for the cheetahs. For here they were - perhaps as many as fifty all around the basin. Tan hesitated - what if....

You're right, but I imagine his inward looking will teach him much of himself. And oh but damn, hanging from that 'cliff' again, lol. Wonderful Sister!

<3 and thanks! The cliffhanger thing - well, seems it's endemic with me. I get to a point.... and I'm like.... yep, that's all folks! (For the time of course - I do like to tie up loose ends....)

Heh, I wanted to say more, but I was pressed for time. "These woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep." :) Namely, I had to get to the store on ice-packed streets and do my shopping for supper in the last thirty minutes before they closed.

What I wanted to say - though I'm not certain if I should... Tan's thoughtful interlude reminds me of a time when I first started my practice of wandering in the wilderness alone and without supplies for a week or two at a time. The gods speak most clearly through solitude, privation, and introspection, eh?

I can recall when I was a very young man (still a boy in fact), facing the night alone without food, fire, or bed in the midst of a hostile nature and disagreeable temperatures. Sounds in the night amplified by their unknown nature can make the heart beat fast in the places that belong to Bear,
Cougar, and Coyote.

Home and family take on a new clarity, and life is never quite so precious as when when you are in imminent danger of losing it... so then love of family becomes precious as well. It doesn't matter if the family is "real" (something I've never really known) or chosen by circumstance and association. What matters is the ties...

No reason not to post that, neil. It was, after all, apt. And glad you got out, back, and groceries for dinner without "issues"!

Kane, the mod IS amazing - it's much longer than I'm writing it, because I'm not detailing all the stuff that has to be handled (since that would be horribly spoilerish and a bad idea - some of you might like to play it....)

Hopefully it comes to SSE. I have Clockwork tracked, but haven't given that one a go, yet.

Yep. This and Clockwork are outstanding from so many angles. Just keep in mind you are assumed by everyone to be the Dragonborn. Mod works fine if you aren't but you do get called "Dragonborn" a lot.
