1 - Where AM I anyway? Well, that’s a really interesting question. It’s dark. There’s that. And it’s quiet - except for the dripping water. It’s not very warm.... in fact, I’m shivering. I do still have clothes on, thank the gods. I can’t smell much - for sure no food cooking. It’s a bit - musty - like ancient lichens and mold. Or like.... graves. Ugh. I wish I hadn’t thought of that.... So let’s see about getting out of wherever “here” is. I felt around all the walls as high as I could reach, and clear to the floor. Nothing - and especially not a door - except slimy mold which explains the way wherever I am smells. It seemed to be a circular hole probably in the ground - the walls are fitted rock, with clay or something over. So this means what? Well, that I'm not expected to escape - therefore not expected to live. And now, regardless of cold, and stink - my stomach thinks my throat’s been cut. I decided to ignore hunger - nothing I could do about it, short of eating my own fingers. Uh. Just - no. I sat on the cold damp floor, my back against a curving wall. Fine. Time to think some. 2 - Where WAS I before I woke up here? Eh, that’s another good question. I seem to have some gaps in my cognizance. Probably because I’m hungry and cold.... Let’s start at the beginning. I’m Tiercel Ravenwing, I’m thirty years old, I’m the granddaughter of the Jarl of Morthal, Verinne Ravenwing the Ravensdaughter. The family tales are fascinating when it comes to g’ma and g’da. Not sure now how many of them are true and how many manufactured out of whole cloth, but they definitely kept me interested when I was a child - and even when I was grown. Since I became a woman and went out on my own, I’ve done a mish-mash of things. I’ve learned how to hide myself in plain sight, like a thief; I know how to use a bow to send death on the air; I can keep myself alive on foraged plants, and hunt animals for hides and meat. I can make my own gear, repair it, and.... that makes me wonder - why am I here in just the old tunic and trews I wear for sleep in a bed? How strange.... Oh. Where I was. Of course! I was in Whiterun, at the Bannered Mare. I’d traded my pelts to Adrianne, some herbs to Arcadia, talked a bit to Danica Kyne’s votary, and then had a meal and a pint, taking another pint up to my room. And woke up here. Wherever here is. And that’s full circle. So I think I’ll see if I can sleep a bit. |

3 - How do I get OUT of here? I slept long enough that I thought there must have been something else involved - like a drug or spell maybe. Especially since my mouth didn’t bear thinking about.... I mean, I’ve been drunk occasionally - I KNOW how bad morning-after mouth is. And mine was worse than that. In other words, if there was anything in my stomach I’d have had to vomit.... There wasn’t, but dry heaves aren’t great as a replacement for sure. When I was done with that, I swatted myself in the head: yeah, I’d checked the walls. But not the floor.... and I could reach the ceiling too - because I’d felt it when I did the walls. It wasn’t that far over my head. So I scooted shakily around the walls feeling as far away from them as I could reach over the ceiling. Well, there was actually something up there - probably a hatch and probably locked or barred from outside. All right then. Floor. And here I finally had some luck. There was a hatch there too. It had a ring handle in the center of it. I pulled gently, and it started to move! Apparently, this place was used pretty often - because the hatch lifted up and away from me very silently. Oiled hinges.... but no more light down there than here. Now how in forty hells was I going to figure out how far down I might fall? Or - wait. My mind was obviously fuzzy. If there was a space below (as likely, since why a hatch with oiled hinges if there was nowhere to go....) then there should be a ladder at the very least! So, I sat down with my legs dangling into the opening, and felt around with my bare feet. Ah. Ladder. I set my feet carefully, and edged down with extreme caution. It seemed to take forever before I felt a floor below me instead of another step. I took a deep breath, and settled into a crouch beside the ladder. Then I waited - quite a while in fact - to see if there was anyone around. I didn’t hear anything but water dripping. But I began to catch a bit of light from the sides of my eyes; staring at the area full on showed nothing, but with my peripheral vision, I could tell that there was dim light to my right. So I took a deep breath, tried not to shiver, tried to move silently as I slid toward that direction. I really wished I had some boots - the gods only knew what I might be walking in.... I had to keep stopping to glance away to make sure I was still seeing that dim light, and to continue moving in the right direction. And I had to listen - I didn’t want to hear anything but myself. So far so good. The light began to strengthen as I moved toward it. I stopped - frequently. A source of light might also provide a source of - trouble. Like men with weapons.... or a cave full of spiders or sabre cats.... Edited by Serethil, Jan 12 2017, 10:28 AM.

Heh. Well, let me tell you about creeped out. This all happened in a dream a couple nights before I started posting this. Seriously. We were having thundersnow - and the roof has leaks all of a sudden around the chimney, so water's pouring by bucketfuls into the fireplace (nope - not kidding.... yeah it's cold, and snow outside, but when it gets INSIDE....) So I was up all night mostly, to keep dumping the buckets.... because I'm the one who can deal with not enough sleep.... And in between bucket-runs, Tier's nightmare started happening. And unlike anything NORMAL, I'd wake up, dump buckets, go back to sleep - and be right back in Tier's nightmare. Yeah. Restful it was NOT. But - wow. So this was a serious poke like I haven't had in a while.... And she's STILL at it. Hey girl - I CANNOT and WILL NOT write myself to death - we're doing this at MY pace.... I hope. |

I hate nightmares like that! If I don't fully waken, I go right back into where I left off...wish the good ones would work that way! I hope there's no major damage causing the leak! |

Nope - no damage so far. It's not covered by insurance, but our very good friend does roofing, and probably Monday (after a couple days of decent weather) he'll get up there and take a look. Now - this is NOT something I'm going to let husband do. The area where the leak is likely occurring is a LONG way off the ground - so he is NOT going up there. He can hold the ladder for Monty.... As for the nightmares - I'm a lucid dreamer. If I want to get out, I can. But I don't want out of the Skyrim dreams - because they're always RP fodder.... and because of course, as bad as they can be, eventually they get worked out. 4 - Well HELL.... I was beginning to ache from the slithering hunched-over movement and the slow crawl toward whatever the light would show. And in fact, I had to stop twice as I got closer to the area that was a little brighter - I had a cramp in my left leg and foot first, and then the right one a few minutes later. And I was still shaky from the spell or drug that had been used on me, not to mention no food or water. So just about the time I realized the cave or whatever I was in was turning left into a corridor, with a dim glow far down it, I also ran out of strength. Slumped to the cold floor, I was shivering and my muscles were tying up - my mother’s voice rang in my ears, something about “fatigue poisons”. I knew I needed water first. But though I could still hear it dripping, I hadn’t found anywhere it was dripping to. In fact, unlike all the tales of dungeon-delving derring-do my father had sung as he played for the family and all, this place had nothing to find, and certainly nothing I could use - no weapons so far, no food, no water - and maybe no exit. ‘Stop that.’ I had to keep believing I could find a way out.... or I would die where I sat. G’ma always said I was stubborn. She used to tell da to leave me be - I’d figure out whatever it was on my own or die trying. Of course, that was when I was younger, smaller, and safe at home.... Still, the sit on the floor bit had given me a breather, and I stumbled into my crouch again, still heading for the light. No wonder I hadn’t been able to see it looking straight at it - it was very faint even now, and I thought I wasn’t seeing a light source so much as a reflected glow. And that was a good thing - because it might mean another turn, back to the right, and I might be able to “hide in plain sight” when I got there. Well, best laid plans and all that. Yes, it was a reflection of a light source. Unfortunately, it was a torch sconce just around the corner - and there was someone sitting under it. He yelled - and I expected to die right then. But.... he ran? What? My heart was pounding, and I hoped it didn’t burst! I headed after him - likely there was an exit wherever he was going. I couldn’t possibly have caught him - he was streaking through the tunnel (now with torches every once in a while) as if the hounds of all the hells were after him.... So I slowed down to a creep again - I really didn’t want to erupt into a cavern full of people.... And then.... I backtracked and put out the torches, keeping two of them as weapons - pitiful, but the only possibilities so far. As I moved after the man, I put out torches as I came to them. My darksight wasn’t bad - especially after the time inside here, but it was better without the added torchlight. Now if only my stomach would quit growling and roiling.... I could tell there was a larger open area ahead. Interestingly enough, I didn’t hear any voices - not even the voice of the man who’d streaked away from me earlier. In fact - it seemed to be totally silent ahead. Truthfully, that was almost worse than knowing I’d have a bunch of bandits to front with two torches as clubs.... I slithered around a final corner into a cavern - not large, nor well lit. Much lighter to my eyes than where I had been though.... but still, if there were people in this area, I couldn’t see them. And - my senses didn’t prompt me with feeling people out there. This was weird. Well, damn - the whole thing is weird! Not that it gets me anywhere.... So I slithered around the walls to get an idea of size and layout. And then I passed close to a table with food.... I grabbed first a goblet - well, it was small ale but that was better than nothing. Water of course would have been better. Still.... I grabbed some other food - a baked potato, some grilled vegetables, some bread - and stuffed them into my tunic. I couldn’t take time to eat now, but later.... My mouth watered - and my stomach grumbled. There was another tunnel. This one led directly to what had to be outside - because the light was enough to cause me serious pain after all the dark.... And much as I wanted to run to the light screaming, I crept along quietly as I could - because I really wanted to live to get out of here. And when I did - wincing in the daylight, and still seeing no one around - I headed quickly into dark cover under the evergreens. As I settled into hiding, I vowed to find out what all this meant - and who had done this to me. And why. As I tore into the food I’d brought out with me, I visualized it as the throat of whoever was responsible.... |

She hasn't told me yet why he ran away - or where the rest of them are.... Exciting.... yeah right. I could do with less "exciting" - except that without it, I'd have a boring story....
