That was super Sis!! You got more into detail than I, and I love it! Yeah, I'm a big fan of that particular quest too!!

Thanks, Sis! I'm taking the night off.... I did a clean install of Skyrim today, added a few "can't live without" mods, plus LotD, LAL, and Lost Legacy of the Nine, so I'm playing this evening while husband's at fire training....

I haven't gotten much playtime in myself...and going to check out a new male body/skin mod tomorrow. Still not happy with how the men look. I'd really like one that that looks good AND does NOT create ridiculous issues with the followers! *sigh* Haven't got that yet, though I can make the male player look pretty decent. So that is for tomorrow night, and then hopefully this weekend get some Eirka time. :)

I hope that LotD works out for you!!

Well, it will work out in one way - I'll just use it for girls who have cool but small houses.... and not worry about the associated quest line. I just really want to play the whole thing through once. We'll see....

61 - Interlude III

I’m not sure Tier knows just - how much I’ve got invested in her. I remember Vin laughing about “love at first sight”. Along with his trademark snideness about bards and tales.... And that was - I think - just before he wound up clapped in gaol in Cyrodiil. So - likely.... the truth is, he knew Tier had fallen for him, hard. And while it might have given him a good hauling of his ashes - he really had nothing else for or with her. Not that I knew she was the point of his laughter. If I had known....

I probably would have killed him right there. And we wouldn’t maybe have this whole thing going on now.

Then again.... Had I done that, would I have ever met her? Who knows, beyond the gods? I don’t. But I know.... I can’t live without her....

Yep. Var is a LOVELY man.... I see him sort of like the "new" MIMITW. Whoever he is - he certainly doesn't speak English well! Gotta love the accent though....

Thanks Sis! I find it pretty interesting that someone like Var (or Ger, in Veri's tale) starts poking at me in the back of my mind too. Does make for fuller understanding, of course!

62 - It’s obvious the East Empire Company wasn’t up front about this.

We dropped down the ledges below us, and approached the skeletons. Near the one closest that door, there was a journal. I picked it up - the leather cover was slimy, the result of too many centuries so close to all this water. Also there was a huge greatsword, which shimmered red. Nearly the same red as the areas on the door....

It was Crescius’s great-grandfa’s journal. Gratian Caerellius. So - these were his bones, and the other skeleton would probably be Millius, his assistant. Poor men - dying alone here. Well, not quite alone - there were several draugr lying dead close by.

“Var. Can we do something about burying them? I think.... Crescius would appreciate that.” There was a shovel off to the side, so we poked around the far edges of the room, finally finding enough loose rock to let us dig a shallow grave. We moved all the bones we could find, first Gratian’s, then Millius’s, into it. And then we covered them over with dirt and loose rocks.

“Divines keep you both.” Var was solemn as he said it, and I had tears in my eyes. The East Empire Company had a lot to answer for. But it was likely they never would, really. I sighed. The reality was that they were inside the Emperor’s pocket - and very well protected there....

So. Here’s this door - without any visible means of entrance. And here’s these pulsing, moving, violently red areas - slashes actually - in the carven rock. I settled to read the journal.

“Well. This sword, Gratian thought, was the key to getting the door open. That needs some thinking on.” I walked up to the stone, covered with glyphs and sigils as it was, as well as the likely magical red areas.

Var hmphed impatiently. He grabbed the sword up and charged at the door! “Wait! Don’t....”

Um. Well. It’s better to be lucky than good. The leftmost horizontal slash went dark, and the stone grumbled as the hunk holding the slash sank away.

“Fine. This is obviously a warrior’s-way sort of puzzle. Carry on!” I bowed him toward the door.

In the next few minutes, I saw a side of my love that probably shouldn’t have made me laugh - but it did. He didn’t, it seemed, remember exactly how he’d been holding the sword when the first red slash went away. So he charged at the door for a while, but nothing more happened. He was beginning to be winded, and I was just about to suggest a stop for water, when he ran at the far right horizontal red slash - and it faded and sank.

I’d been watching - and I thought I saw the solution to the puzzle. “Look you. You were holding the sword about waist-high, and moving to the right. What if.... these are keyed to how the sword is held? Oh - wait, yes, Gratian made a small mention of that... but he hadn’t the strength to try. So, have a bit of water, take a breather. Then, it looks like you might need to swing the sword vertically....”

Var dunked his head in the water. “That’s better. Let me read it.... Oh, hmm. Yes, considering how much effort it took to get the first two - and accidentally at that! - Gratian wasn’t going to be able to get out of here at all.... Horrible way to die....”

“IS there a less than horrible way to die?”

“In your own bed, of old age, with your family around you. NOT spitted on some draugr’s weapon....”

Only too true....

Men just have to try things their way, lol, as we do also! In this case, the teamwork, after a solo start, worked perfectly! So nice that they took care to bury the two poor men. :( This was really well done! :D

Thanks! I always wish I could really do that in game. Lots of stuff that would make for a "more real" experience.... but way too late to get it in there now....

Oh - TMIMITW: his name is Augustin Legrand, French, 41 years old. As for seeing him as Var, this one's pretty close.

Yeah, it could get trimmed some there! Some of his later commercial work (couple of TMIMITW ones especially) have it trimmed closer - but I couldn't find stills of those.

I just now got caught up again! Good job, Sere!

It's funny, but some of the things you wrote made me think of facts that I know that probably 99% of the population have no clue about... I'm thinking when I get back to writing again, I'll have to explore those avenues a bit. ;)
