Thanks bro! That's the end thing for the Dragonborn questline. And I think you don't have to do any other books to finish the whole questline. I'm doing all the books because - well - it's a plot point. But the only time I finished Dragonborn, I did only the one from Kolbjorn, and the final one. Mostly, the other books just give you a bunch of OP stuff. I don't need a bunch of OP stuff - especially since most of what they offer isn't anything I want.... |

79 - Home again home again The burning was of course not negotiable. Most Nords wouldn’t want to wind up as some sort of skeletal remains, much less draugr - and poor Telka.... well, da took me aside to say they’d found a few pieces scattered around the cavern opening - and while there was really no way to tell if they were Telka, at least some poor soul would see Sovngarde. There was no way in all the hells I was telling Melki any of that. He didn’t ask how anyone knew it was Telka, and no one else was talking either. I felt strongly that nothing of her had survived - what we’d seen.... well.... It just wasn’t likely that any of her could have been scraped together off that floor - even if an army had gone inside to try to gather her up. And of course, we didn’t have an army.... So we’d burn the bits, in her name, and hope that both she and whoever it might really have been could find some peace, and their long home in Sovngarde. Var showed up too - so I supposed g’ma had explained. I heard again that haunting music as he stood beside the bier with his sword overhead in salute. I needed to remember to ask him about that - I’d never heard of a sword that could play music.... This time, da was staring too - so it wasn’t just me hearing it! A lot of tears.... I was again glad her parents were long dead. This would have killed them anyway. Once the pyre was fully burning, we all knelt and begged the Divines to take the souls of those in extremity into Sovngarde, and restore to them their bodies. That should cover however many people were part of those shreds of humanity. Naluna stood at the foot of the pyre, and lifting her hands to the skies, she sang a dirge. Her hands glowed as she ended the prayer song. She was.... definitely a better priest than many. As the fire died to ashes, the entire town gathered and linked arms and shuffled in step around the bier. Each of us had taken a handful of soil, and now we scattered the dirt of her home over the ashes. All of us were in tears. And in my heart, I vowed that Movarth - and his daedric lord, Bal - would pay, by my hand. Now just what I thought I could do about Bal - well, that depended on Mora. Mel sank to the ground as people started to head to their homes. I crouched beside him, hugging him gently. “Come, brother. Let’s go home.” Edited by Serethil, Apr 13 2017, 07:29 PM.

Morthal's a different place in Tier's world than it was in 4E 201. It's home.... and those who live there now are pretty tightly connected. [All my viewpoint of course!] |

80 - Sometimes, you just need to watch a sunsrise.... We spent a week almost, repairing gear, upgrading gear, planning to take horses this time, and carefully avoiding any mention of - grief. Of course, Melki wasn’t going to heal without time to deal with the grief. But I’m not his ma, so I wasn’t pointing that out. And ma didn’t either as far as I knew. I thought g’ma might have - didn’t ask, not my business (unless and until Melki brings it up....) The night before we planned to head back to Solstheim, I said “I’m going up to the old ruins to watch the sunsrise before we leave. Want to come along?” Melki smiled a little. “Aye. We won’t see the sun on our home for a while after. It’s a good thought, Tier.” So at about three hours past middle night, we saddled up the boys, and rode out past the Manor, up to High Gate. We had to put down some draugr who’d moved in betimes. I wished they’d just stay in their barrows. And then we settled to a blanket atop the rise of the barrow dome, and faced east. We dozed a bit, then had some kaffe - a new thing that the cook had offered. And holy hells that woke us up for sure! That stuff really didn’t taste so great, but as a waker-upper it was superlative. “Hmm. Sis, what do you think - if we put some honey in it?” “Oh. That might make it better. We’ll try that soon! This is about as sharp as I’ve felt in years! Now that makes me wonder though - is it just a ‘fake’ sharp?” About that point, the last of the fae lights faded - into one of the most gorgeous sunsrises I’d ever seen in my life. A rainbow of color spread up the sky, from deep midnight blue to bright sunlight yellow. There was a greenish flare out over the ocean toward the ice, and the ocean itself was a shimmering cerulean. I wanted to fly up into those colors, but instead I welcomed them into my soul, and felt better - more whole - for it. Mel had tears tracking down his face. “Tier.... I think Telka’s home in Sovngarde. I felt - something - warm. And now I can let her go. We have to make an end for all of us though.” “Aye. We do. And we will.” We watched as the deeper colors began to fade into day. And then, mounting, we headed for Windhelm, to the Northern Maiden. Molag Bal.... you want to worry. I’m not sure how we’re going to fix this, but - we are. |

Yep. And.... she's worrying over Melki.... the brother she loves best. So she's mother-henning - even if she scoffs at it. |

81 - *sigh* Back to the ash. I feel so sorry for this island.... But that doesn’t mean I like it here! Though I suppose I’m becoming used to it over time. Geldis Sadri actually seemed happy to see us - considering we bought two weeks of beds he SHOULD be happy. “Where next, sis?” “That White Ridge Barrow. Since Sera Sadri was so kind to sell us a map, at least we have a clue where we need to go.” The damn map had cost me a hundred septims. I purely HATE being gouged - but having a map was better than not.... and I wasn’t exactly broke. Yet. Having the horses with us was a real boon. They didn’t seem to mind the ash - I hoped it wasn’t hurting them somehow I didn’t know - and they plodded through it as if it was the snow they were more used to. Of course, they stirred it up, and being so light, it flew up all around, and caused us to sneeze and cough. The biggest thing though was the extra carrying capacity. This time we didn’t have to carry camp gear on our backs, for instance. From the map, White Ridge Barrow seemed to be about a day from Raven Rock. Well. That was if you had a real road all the way up there. We didn’t. The road that supposedly went north beyond a “grove” of standing stones (filled with reavers I might add - who didn’t live long) - well, it just wasn’t there any more. The crossroad where the road went east to the old temple was still there, but not the northern branch. No idea where it went.... obviously it was there whenever the map was originally drawn - who knew how many years back? And every time the map was copied, the road was still there - because no one ever re-explored.... So we wended our way up-mountain. Seemed as if this area might be part of the tallest peak on Solstheim. We decided to give the horses breathers every couple of hours, due to the steepness - and the ash. However, the ash began to dissipate as we climbed, and by dusk, we were free of it. Now that was definitely a relief! Melki pointed out a tumbled patch of boulders, with trees of great size around it - so the fall had been a very long time ago. We poked around it a bit, and decided the rest of the rock wall overhead wouldn’t probably fall on us in our sleep. I broke out the kettle and some bricks of dried meat and vegetables, and melted snow for water. Throw the bricks into the hot water, let simmer a while - and you have a hot meal. Not as good as cooked fresh, but tasty enough, and we didn’t need to take time to hunt. Following the stew with a bottle of wine mellowed us both right out. It might be the first time in a month I’d slept without nightmares.... Works for me. Morning brought a hellacious snowstorm. But at least it was snow and not ash! We stayed put until the snow quit - and then it was so late, we just didn’t move. Tomorrow would be soon enough. |

I can feel their relief at getting away from the ash! And even a half-assed map is better than none, at least for an island. Maybe. LOL Well done! |
