Me too. I love the blend of Morrowind and Skyrim it offers.

128 - If I let Neloth live....

He’s a serious pain in my rear. If I could figure out how to kill him and live over it, I’d do it! He carped about everything all the way from Raven Rock to Solitude. Including the very nice carriage which belonged to the former High King - and which was waiting for us near the docks.

Beran’s stone was located south of Dragon Bridge. No doubt Neloth would complain about how far it was from where it needed to end up. I was rather hoping that the mage would be impressed with the Throat of the World, and Paar’s Aerie, but I tended to think there wasn’t anything in Nirn that would do that....

Var rode alongside the carriage. I figured he was glad to be away from Neloth, and not have to listen to his snide remarks and generalized nastiness. Fortunately, getting to Beran’s stone was the work of just a few hours - thankfully!

We arrived at his minimalist camp to find that the stone had been released from its native placement, and stood now in the open. I introduced Beran to Neloth, and stepped back to see how the discussion would go. I was more than slightly awed at how large a block of stone Beran thought he needed....

“So. You expect me to move this half of a mountain clear up on the very top of the tallest peak in Skyrim. I can do that of course; I am a master wizard after all. You, wench. You are going to owe me something for this though! I’m not - precisely - sure what. But obviously it will have to wait until your brat is born.”

Var narrowed his eyes at the snide remarks. I just shook my head and smiled. “Neloth, the fact that I can’t do anything for you for a year or thereabouts just gives you plenty of time to think on something difficult you really want, doesn’t it?”

“Hmph. You’re far too cheeky, but yes, I will certainly give it plenty of thought. Now, get out of the way, all of you. I have to set this up carefully, which means I need to concentrate. And be quiet!”

He made some complex hand movements while muttering in a language I didn’t know (and had no idea what it could be). This sort of thing went on for some minutes. Then he turned and said “There. That should do it. Now, how long in this miserable equipage to get to the top of this mountain?”

Unfortunately, it took the better part of three days, even pushing the horses from first light to nearly dark.... and by the time we made High Hrothgar, I was seriously considering pushing Neloth off Paar’s Aerie.

Arngeir gave us beds. I made us all a meal, and first thing in the morning, we set out for the peak. Neloth mumbled and grumbled the entire way. At least the weather held good with bright sun instead of gloom and snow. It was not an easy climb under the best circumstances, and my condition added to the strain just getting up there. It took us about three hours, with rests occasionally for me, which both Var and (much to my surprise) Neloth insisted on. Beran just went on without us, seemingly anxious to get back up there!

However, once we reached the Aerie, even Neloth seemed caught somehow in awe. Beran motioned him over to the word wall and began explaining what he was going to do, once the stone was settled atop the wall and scaffolding installed. Neloth nodded as Beran spoke, and Var and I just stayed out of the way. Eventually, Beran walked over above the ledge with Paar’s bones, continuing to explain.

Shortly, I was startled to see the bones levitate up off the ledge, float toward the word wall, and settle gently to the ground. Var reached over and gently closed my mouth. “Don’t say it. You’ll just give him ammunition.”

Right. I sighed. And then my mouth dropped open again, as Neloth completed some more of his complex movements and muttered words, and that half-a-mountain of stone Beran had cut free appeared above the top of the word wall and landed dead center! Chills ran down my body, because.... well, Neloth Telvanni was probably the single most powerful wizard this world was ever likely to see, and I had cheerfully and without forethought embroiled him in my schemes....

I’m surprised he didn’t just wave a hand and fry me to grease..... Var of course managed to say exactly the right thing.

“Show-off.”

And I had to turn away so no one knew how hard I was laughing!

OMG, I'm laughing at Tier now, but it's good. Her reaction, as it hit her who and what she was really dealing with, is priceless! I'm glad too, that Neloth could still be awed by something. Awesome!!

I wonder where my post from this morning went. The one where I thanked you all kindly.... apparently the gremlins took exception to it!

So anyway, thanks y'all! Though, Kane, I'm really just making things up for Neloth, because in game he just never does much....

129 - We left Beran to it

He said he had some of the miners from Shor’s Stone set to come install scaffolding, and would I please send a message to Gors letting them know it was time. I would be happy to do so of course! And as normal, there was a courier standing around in Ivarstead as if just waiting on my pleasure.

That attended to, Neloth and I reentered the carriage and headed back to Solitude to pick up the Mistress and take the mage back to his island. I really wanted never to have to talk to him again. So imagine my surprise when he said “Kindly keep me apprised of progress so that I can make arrangements to return when the shrine will be finished.”

“Certainly. I may not be able to sail at that point, but Var....”

He waved a hand and cut me off. “I’ll make my own arrangements thank you.”

Well. Fine. So I returned to my dozing in my corner - it seemed I was always tired these days. At least I knew why!

By the end of the week, we’d taken Neloth to his mushroom tower, and tied up the Mistress in Raven Rock. I went to talk to Crescius and Aphia while Var bought some food to get us home. We planned to leave in the morning, and then I wanted to just stay home while the house got finished and the babe got born. And I hoped that wasn’t going to be one of those “best laid plans” things....

I know, but the best part of reading is seeing it in your mind. I can clearly see Neloth performing all of those magical feats.

Interlude - Tier, Var; Vaerlon and Terlinna

The house got done in time - barely. This was more to ma’s debit.... she kept insisting that her grandchild be born in a house that was - done. *sigh* Ma’s.... different. As we’ve talked over time out of mind already....

And thankfully, I’m completely normal when it comes to birthing (which - considering ma - I couldn’t be hoping for....) But then g’ma had six children, and no issues - so it’s a good thing I’m more like her!

Vaerlon arrived in a rush - and years later I was to remember that to my chagrin. And then, g’ma said “Eh, wait.... oh Divines - there’s another!”

And Terlinna followed her brother into Nirn. ‘No wonder I’d had so little energy, and so much girth....’

Once they were birthed, I felt.... so much lighter.... I floated off into sleep, a babe on each side.

Var looked down at his sleeping wife, cradling the babes against her. They’d suckled briefly, and then the three of them had.... crashed into instant oblivion.

Tears flooded his eyes. Of all the things his life had lacked, and he couldn’t even begin to enumerate them at this point - these three had.... filled all those holes.

He knelt next to the bed, and took three hands into his own: Tier’s, Vaer’s and Ter’s. “I pledge you, I will love you unto eternity. Tier, thank you, my love.”
