It's more that the baddie factions seem taboo for the round, ya know? Someone out to restore Skyrim to glory isn't going to join the DB or TG. CoW and the Blades/Greybeards, though, makes sense. |

I like the idea of no points, no penalties... for quests and factions beyond what the round is. .. choices. Anyone who picks a mage almost needs to do parts of CoW...trainers. |

Hmm I get that, but I think since we are trying to do our own builds at the same time as doing a themed competition it clashes a bit. If we go with only CW and CW Faction gear/weapons we would end up with some major restrictions part of what I think we're trying to achieve is having everyone create a build with mods if desired and see how they fair in this competition. The end result being a pick list of builds we've generated ourselves with evaluations by everyone afterward. Some thought regarding faction gear that bolster what you've said about heavy armor and Stormcloaks. A pure mage won't be wearing armor from either faction, a thief that doesn't have enchanting as skill might want the thieves guild enchanted clothing, DB the same for DB gear, to allow them to complete CW tasks on a greater difficulty than they could if they were restricted to Stromcloak or Imperial gear. One daedric quest example, a Paladin build wouldn't have access to Meridia's sword, which they might have had their heart set on. Also, I think part of what makes the player character unique is they can wander around dressed however they want and "the enemy" is none the wiser which side they've chosen, giving them an advantage at those parts in the game play requiring a bit of espionage as well as getting through hostile situations where they wouldn't be able to if they were immediately identified as the opposition. Perhaps we're trying to combine too much into this one round, I don't know. Skill restrictions alone make it difficult. Further restrictions on gear/weapons might make it....less fun. I can see both approaches. Perhaps we should talk about just how much we want to bite off in this particular round, that is, CW and its restrictions and rules vs, flexible builds and play style, etc. Just my 2 septims (just for Grits). P.S. I take too long on my responses. Normally I'm laconic in response, but... :teehee: Edited by Brambleberry, Jan 23 2017, 06:42 PM.

I'm really in favor of freedom to do any quests you want, but credit only given for completing the "Hero of Skyrim" quests mentioned. There are a lot of interlocking quests, anyway. For instance, you can't decorate the house in Windhelm until you've done Blood on the Ice. And if I were going to play a sword/board knight/paladin, I would certainly like to have both Spellbreaker and Dawnbreaker. Likewise, an enchanter type would probably need Azura's Star. |

I agree that quests should not be restricted (other than no points, and they eat time), for all of the reasons already given. Besides, you'll break Rick's heart if he can't join the DB to get all three MFD shouts... :D (sorry Rick, I couldn't resist) |

I would just destroy the DB to get to that MFD wall. It's quicker. Of course, you still have to justify killing that nice old lady at the orphanage. ;) |

Eh, don't you have to join the DB just to get inside the sanctuary to destroy them? |

No, you gotta kill the old hag but you kill Astrid to start destroying. You get in by being given the passphrase. |

Actually, since we are allowing mods in competitions now, I stumbled across these mods for Imperial Robes and Stormcloak Robes a while back.... |

I just looked at faction crossbows, the CW variants have the normal base damage for a crossbow @ 19. Seems a bit OP, still. |

Hunh. I've always killed Astrid while all of her "guests" were still alive. I mean, to me, I kinda took it that if I was not going to join the DB, I wouldn't just kill one or more of them on Astrids's command... So, when I killed Astrid, I never got a passphrase... In Oblivion, I usually killed Lucien when he finished his speech in my room, and I never heard from the DB again. Edited by neildarkstar, Jan 24 2017, 09:46 AM.

You have to follow the next objective. Once you kill Astrid the game magically directs you to Commander Maro, who somehow has the passphrase. |

Sakiri, baring in mind I know nothing about creating mods/converting or anything of the like (I really do just plug and play) I know a lot of mods are being converted over to SSE. Since these ones don't require anything from SKSE would they not be relatively simple to port over to SSE? If you don't know how, perhaps someone would be willing to do so and send you the files? Just a thought :) |

I think I've read somewhere that you have to "unpack" the files, repack them, and then save as a new file and then they work. I've never done it because instructions aren't clear if it's just the .bsa that needs to be unpacked or both the .bsa and the .esp (neither of which I've edjumkated myself on yet). If it's .esp only, you just open it in the new CK and save it. If it's .esp plus meshes and textures folders, and the files in those are .dds and .nif, you're okay to use them as is. If it's the older graphic type (.tga I think) you'd have to redo the files somehow (don't know that one - not a graphics whiz). If it's a .bsa, you'd have to unpack with BSA opt or something and repack with the new CK. Here's a really good discussion by Arthmoor: Things to know/converting mods to SSE |

Very interesting reading... well I didn't read all of it, just what Arthmoor wrote.. One of the thing's I would like to start doing is giving a better system to the mods we are using. What I mean is just assigning a +/- to each mod let's us know if they are helpful or add to the difficulty... but realistically does Wearable Lanterns = Deadly Dragons... Just how much of an advantage is Immersive Weapon's or Immersive Armors, which both have leveled lists... What I mean is.. Divine Elegance all the wares are craftable, but the materials are "cheap" even for the more robust armors...while Immersive Armors.. makes you work for the materials.. yes they sell for more than "vanilla", but you also need more ingredients ( in most cases). Buying the armors from DE is.... expensive but time at the wood block can get help. I think having a thread "Mod Values" ( in the DiD area) and adding new mods as we decided what their "value" is.. value being where they stand verses Vanilla.. I know we don't always use the same mods, but I do think their is enough overlap to figure most of them out. If we are going to progress in using mods, instead of it just being a novelty, we need to come up with a good "base". Anywho... just something to think about. |

Well said Areial. And nothing says as time goes by that we can't tweak the +/- value we give to a mod based on incoming information. Eventually we should end up with a fairly extensive mod pick list that folks can use as a guide and/or we could even do a comp with specific mods loaded (as long as available for both consoles and pc) to add even more variety to our future competitions. :D Edited by Brambleberry, Jan 24 2017, 02:25 PM.

I also like that idea. :) It would definitely be a good thing to get rolling, even if it's just for convenience. |
