I voted: 1 - c - part of the choice you make in deciding to play a higher difficulty is knowing it'll take longer to get rolling because you need to be that much more prepared with better quality equipment. The off-set to this is you get more points. If prep time is used then I feel there should be no multiplier for difficulty because you're essentially packing yourself up to play on barely harder than adept, just more enemies. 2 - c&e - assuming this one refers to alternate start/prep time? I think if we're allowing a house to help get the ball rolling for the competition then it should be restricted to vanilla ones because they take time and investment to get rather than rocking up on a hill/cave/tree/under a bridge and there you go, nice house with safe storage. 3 - c - IF we're allowing prep time, then there should be a consideration for those who opt not to use it and start the competition at level 1 in Helgen, pure vanilla. 4 - d - legendary requirement, though i'd also accept a master requirement. Simply because the reason for the prep time is you NEED that time to get levels and equipment up to snuff. Expert and below I don't think you really do. 5 - b - start at riverwood. anyone starting the competition at the end of prep time with breezehome is one (assisted) dragon slaying away from thane of whiterun, giving them an edge over other people still needing to complete BFB (which I think should be off limits for prep time because it's progress in a thane quest and that's part of the competition). 6 - at this point i'm starting to forget, but I think I chose civil war start because it skips the aptitude test, but that means you miss out on loot more than anything. Left for dead with certain mods is just an almost guaranteed death...stood up at alftand to a face full of half a dozen OBIS bandits a few times. Can't run when they have you stun locked in the stand up animation :/ 7 - a - zombie puppies, sure, why not? |

I voted for some of the new stuff. I like that I keep getting chances to vote. I oppose the LAL CW-Start idea, because it skips the first quest and dumps you into the Jagged Crown quest. The more I think about this "prep time" the more I don't understand what the heck it's supposed to do. We're planning a competition with easily stated, simple objectives. And now it's getting complicated by something that has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual competition. But if we really want the prep time thing, then I propose the following: 1. Prep time as long as you want. No restrictions, and no credit for anything you do. Dead-is-dead, restart allowed from beginning. 2. Once you start the actual competition, Dead is completely dead; no restart. 40 Hour limit. 3. No multiplier for difficulty; the point of the free prep time is to offset your chosen difficulty. 4. Shortest time for completion of all objectives wins; if no one completes everything within 40 hours, then the highest attained score wins. Edit: I see that I crossposted with Poncho. We have some strong areas of agreement there. :) Edited by glargg, Jan 26 2017, 01:16 AM.

Glargg it was suggested...and I felt needed good discussion over. I won't be using it.. I'll take the points instead...( presuming that it get's a yes over all.) I think with prep time, the multiplier should go out the window.. the Idea I think is that it's hard on Legendary and Master, and takes so long to get a character up to snuff... "quest time" is at a minimum. I think "new" thing's in our competition is a good thing.. some might be a bit overboard, but never know until you try.. and no one is going to suggest new things, if we never try them.. ok some might be a bad idea from the get go.. but we can still talk about them! |

OK so far this is what I see: -Prep time is a yes, with a 50/50 split on the multiplier - Every one loves Mickey! - We have 4 yes's to starting with houses.. split 2 for "starting as "vanilla" house home owners and two for mod houses split ( 4/ 2 yes/ no) * IF prep time is voted in - 2 votes for 500 point's for "vanilla" start - 1 for 50 points per hour not used -Minimum starting difficulty with prep time 2 Legendary 2 Expert 1 Master * this would average out to Master PS3 & 360 players - 3 for allowing them to get Than of Whiterun during Prep time, so that they may buy Breezehome Alternate Start - 2/2 Home owner ( these are vanilla homes) / Left for Dead This is how I am reading it as of.. now...lol.. their should be more people to vote.. so... but let me know if anyone think's of questions to ask.. thing's that we need to vote on.. Oh.. New Question...cause Kane asked.. and it's a good question Link: Immersive Jewelry |

I certainly wasn't complaining about the discussion! :) I agree that it's good to try new things. I had not understood that the idea was that if there was a prep time allowed, the multiplier would go away. Subject to that, I have no problem with the idea. :) |

Ok....still thinking. Prep time lets us start on Legendary....against initially much higher level foes, but with higher level gear to match...so we might be on a difficulty par with an expert....(well unless the expert chooses to spend a little time smithing and enchanting and takes a small hit to their questing time, I guess......you can get quick rises to skills in no time....its the last 30% of a skill that eats the time). On the other hand....starting higher or more developed gives us lots of perks...most of which are essentially used for fighting skills, but nevertheless we have more flexibility than someone starting with no perks..... So....would I want to start out of the gate...ready to roll....legendary capable, but not gain any multiplier for the higher level foes encountered for the remaining time....thats a toughie. |

i voted OOOOH Pretty! Basically, the huge variety added combined with the value of jewellery means it could easily skyrocket the smithing skill, which i'd say makes it an advantage.....but the rebalance of weight and complicated nature of the recipes and components makes things a bit harder. Without having looked at it too deeply, the impression that found jewellery will still give extra slots for enchantment cements it as an advantage mod in my eyes. Either way, not a mod i'd be using...I like my smithing straight forward without need for different sizes of metal bar and ring shanks and gem quality and the like. |

I "over answered" ... because Sometimes I am not sure how clearly I explained... but the answer wasn't just aimed at you Glargg.. :D it was to make sure the idea was clear. caffeine ...I need a bit more to get up and think... Poncho that's about the way I look at it, but I wasn't sure if the weight and complication of the recipes balanced the slot's, selling cost and other factors.... btw.. you can't for instance clear out Kolskeggr mine, even with 0 weight going in...gold weights.... a lot! I use it cause I like the way the jewelry looks...verses vanilla... Have not in competition though.. probably won't. Edited by Areial, Jan 26 2017, 10:38 AM.

New Question!! Rick.. Prep time would be just that...prep time.. so 20 hr's, plus the 40 for the competition, which if you actually needed 30, mean's you still have 30 to play instead of just 10..which mean's that you can be more careful... Everyone that chooses to use Prep time is going to run into "tougher" enemies.. difference is... and I know I've read you state it.. after lvl 40 their are only a few bad guys you have to watch out for... Yes you might be slightly nerfed with only 6 perked skills ( plus 2 freebies)...but... it's still a good advantage to the way you play... |

On your latest poll question, I can't see an answer that quite fits (possible that I misunderstand :) ). If the DLC's Main Quest is delayed by a mod, but the rest of the content is there, then the delay is certainly an advantage. |

Naa I think you got the gist. SSE doesn't allow for not having the DLC's, like SLE does ( mod's aside). Vanilla console can "dis-able" any of the DLC's. So the question was would a mod that delay's the start of Dawnguard be "advantageous". The only reason I put it to a poll is because we have never had a rule about having all the DLC's "active" if you have them...nor a rule that says you have to have them ( which would not be right). Literally if I went out and got a 360 I could play the "vanilla" game... with NO DLC's, one of the disc's I have is only the main game ( bought before the 1st DLC..).. the other is Legendary ( when it 1st came out). btw my original disc... bought 11/11/11 melted inside our 1st 360... dog's, squirrel... lot's of broken things... Edit: but as I said on the other page...personally would look at it as advantageous ... but try to look at and present different sides. Edited by Areial, Jan 26 2017, 01:59 PM.

Areial I'm in a similar boat regarding DLC....my only xbox copy was true vanilla, no DLCs but PC version is Legendary. 360 still works, disc still works, but I think it's unfair (in the spirit of the competition more than anything) for me to deliberately play 360 version to avoid the vamps/cultists showing up unexpectedly when most other participants are playing Legendary. That said, if we're allowed to effectively remove the DLC by preventing vamp attacks/recruitment happening period I'll happily leave Timing is Everything installed. Most all I ever did with it was push a number of events back to what I felt was a more reasonable level coinciding with the Stronger Daedric Artifacts mod (also never used in competition for obvious reason) |

I voted that if you have it, you have to use it. People who don't have it DO get an advantage in some ways, but they also lack things like crossbows. Unlike mods, the DLC are part of the game and so the very real threat of vampires and cultists attacking are part of the game as well. I do think a person who is playing without the DLC should let everybody know that's the case. Just like mods that give an advantage, lack of DLC could be noted with a + or -, eh? |

:thumb: I have Inconsequential NPC's...which improves the AI of NPC's.. they will run inside during dragon and vamp attacks.. but I use it as a - ( minus) advantage mod... I like the "it's a town full of people" feeling... Edit: Inconsequential NPC's ( minus) = OBIS ( plus).. not equal easy to hard.. I think OBIS wins.. but that is the way I did it last time.. - one / +one I have as yet not gotten to round 5's load order.. I want it more or less balanced.. Harder NPC's ..more of them... Harder Dragons ( vanilla timer).. Haven't decided if Lucien is going to participate in this round or wait on another.. as he is light armor and I would like to use a heavy armor character.... I need to find out today if Lost to the Ages for example, works. Idgaf about crossbows. My archers don't use them, too loud. I never considered them an advantage over bows. Being able to avoid surprise gankings in cities is a *huge* advantage for DiD. Nothing like dying to a master vampire and two dogs as soon as you get to a stable. |

Ok apparently leaves everything else in. Just went and looked. Personally I don't use anything out of it, not even arrow crafting, but that's just me. I never get high enough to get dragonbone weapons to drop nor smithing high enough. |

Meh, pre-competition talk should be complicated, messy full of your favorite jam or jelly and a bit of old pizza to top it off (for Miro). In the end we distill down everything to a manageable set of rules and hopefully a much more svelt (didn't want to use streamlined it has a bad rap) list of mods, pluses & minuses. This is effort well worth it imo for continued engagement in competitions which have become somewhat repetitive (didn't want to use stale because competitions are definitely not bread). I said to myself, "Well duh! You've only been doing competitions since sometime in 2012, so after almost a full 5 years you need to spice it up a little!" I answered, okay, okay here have a bit of Moon Sugar spice!" :teehee: I see where folks may think this is getting "out of hand", so maybe we should start thinking about specifics now. For example, we've nailed down the theme (thank you Kane :) ). We've decided for each person to create their own builds. We've decided to have each entrant list their mods and to the best of their ability put a plus or minus next to them (more if they think it's needed). I believe Neil put out a good approach with regards to version of game and installment. That is, just state if you're playing Skyrim Vanilla no DLCs, Skyrim Vanilla with modular DLCs (that is you've activated HF & DB, but not DG as an example), SLE full, SSE. That way it can be evaluated at the end of competition play. We've got a good list going (thx to all), but I would put out there that we may want to leave the fine tuning of mod evaluation AFTER the competition. That way as we give our updates while trying to put an end to the pi**ing contest going on in Skyrim we might find that such and such a mod made a particular part more difficult, but another part easier. Just some ideas for folks to chew on (like Grape Bubba Bubble gum, not Apple that is just nasty). Couple Septims for Grits left under the mat. Masticate on these suggestions if you would please as that's all they are! :bunny: |
