From the pics, it looks like when you ride in on the cart....

Helgen Rebuilt - I'm going to install it tonight for a new girl, see what it looks like. I'm going to try out Build Your Own Home on her too....

Those are nice... I could see using the Helgen Rebuild mid-game cause it always bothers me that it stays a burnt out wreck with bandit's....

The second yeah that's nice.

They're both quite nifty! The buildable house has a fair amount of customization, though I (of course) will be doing most of the decor using jax positioner, fpi gallery etc. I like the area, and the way the outside stuff is done though!

Helgen Rebuilt works just fine with Skyrim Unbound - as long as you don't activate it before your character's "in" the world. And it's pretty darn perfect.... Vilod has become the innkeeper and sells Mead with Juniper Berry, there's a general goods store, and a blacksmith.

Does anyone but me find it odd that during the cart ride, Ralof talks about being sweet on a girl from Helgen, and wonders if she (Vilod) still makes the mead with juniper berry mixed in - but in game Vilod's male?

I didn't realize the name was male... and it really wouldn't matter if it was... my name was traditionally male... now used more fem, but I still know a guy or three named Tracy.

No, it's not the name that's male, it's the NPC that's male - when Ralof specifically intimates that the Vilod he knew is female.

Now.... after looking up the actual cart ride conversations....

Quote:

This is Helgen. I used to be sweet on a girl from here. Wonder if Vilod is still making that mead with juniper berries mixed in.

....I took that to mean that the girl he was sweet on was named Vilod. But - he's sort of a stream of consciousness speaker.... so maybe not. Maybe the girl has nothing to do with Vilod being male and making mead.

[And apparently, Vilod has always been male in game, so I was just obviously confuzzled. Don't mind me!]

I thought Vilod was killed during the opening sequence.

Swear to God I found his body.

Vilod and his wife both perish in Alduin's attack. Ralof refers to Vilod during the cart ride. Right after saying "this is Helgen, I used to be sweet on a girl from here" Followed by, "I wonder if Vilod still makes that mead with juniper berries mixed in?" The girl and Vilod aren't connected other than in the poorly written ramblings of Ralof.

I know.

It's this bit I'm replying to:

"Helgen Rebuilt works just fine with Skyrim Unbound - as long as you don't activate it before your character's "in" the world. And it's pretty darn perfect.... Vilod has become the innkeeper and sells Mead with Juniper Berry, there's a general goods store, and a blacksmith."

Vilod technically couldn't have become the innkeeper, as he dies in the opening sequence.

To be fair, we never actually see Vilod die. He was pretty fucked up though and it's hard to believe he survived, so I can't imagine why they though it was a good idea to bring him back to run his inn.

Maybe the actual mod provides an explanation?

???

Not as far as I know yet.... There was something on the mod page about it I think, have to take a look.

4. Vilod is selling Juniper Mead as the Innkeeper. As its unclear what happened to him I feel I can bring him back.
I suppose that's one way to look at it. And from the wiki:

Quote:

Sometimes, after Helgen has been destroyed, Vilod can be found wandering around instead of being wounded.
which it states is fixed by the unofficial patch. Though I don't see why it needed to be messed with.... sometimes I even see Hadvar wandering around in Helgen (probably something to do with a script inconsistency in Skyrim Unbound). Stuff like that doesn't bother me....

"Sometimes" tells me it's a bug.

I generally avoid Helgen afterwards, the terrain and followers makes those bandits annoying.

Well, before this mod, I've always run a route: to Riverwood, Anise's Cabin, Guardian Stones - then toward Falkreath to clean out the first bandit camp (by the Talos shrine), up the back road to Helgen to clean out that bandit camp, then into Helgen before bandits take over. Then I never go back.

Having the town rebuilt is nice. It's for one thing a fairly close General Goods trader who is neither Lucan nor Belethor.... both of whom annoy me all out of proportion to reality. I don't like what's-his-name in Falkreath either (I do NOT steal from shops, and saying it ONCE is sufficient thank you!).

I wish it was available for SSE. At least I have Settlements Expanded for SSE - Loreius Farm's a bit out of the way, but anything's better than the vanilla game shopkeepers!

Helgen Reborn is available for SSE, but may not be one's cup-o-tea.

Yeah, wasn't my cuppa. I really dislike quest mods that require followers. One reason I love Clockwork and Gray Cowl - they expressly disallow followers!

Gray Cowl's available for SSE - but first, I don't have the bw to get it right now; and second, until I get something easier for decorating houses in SSE.... well, I'm just not playing it much. I have some of Cynndal's houses for various girls in SSE - but there's only so much you can do without Renamer at least, and of course, there's no "simple" way to add or move stuff without Positioner.

And yes, Cobb Positioner is available for SSE - but I can never get comfortable with it, and there are things it doesn't do that Jaxonz does.

Not to mention that I'm just fine with SLE anyway....

You know that's one thing that bothers me about some mods.. I don't mind if my characters run solo.. but if they have a follower that never leave's their side... ie Tsuri and Ash... then it really suck's when the mod dis-allows them.

Well, yes, there is that. And while it wasn't true to the way it played out, I wrote Andur into Clockwork - because it made no sense if he got left behind....

Modders really ought to allow for totally different playstyles.

Yeah, I do understand in theory why and I loved Clock-work and will probably run it again, but not with a character like Tsuri or even though her part of the story is done.. Aillyn who isn't really a "warrior".. Christof and Tannick did most of the fighting, she'd never make it through.

My Dwemer Scholar... Clock-work would be perfect, except he or she will be a scholar not a warrior.. using scroll's and staff's only if completely necessary to defend. I think "player place at me" might work.. I'll have to check and make sure I have a good save before entering.

Yeah, I wondered if I could just use the console - but that would have required either finding a not-annoying pretend Andur, or making a custom follower. Nah, wasn't going either place. But it would make sense for the way you play.

I actually have it in Tsuri's load order, but I won't even try until her story is just about done.. that way it doesn't mess anything up. I know that in theory saving.. going through the door.. "playerplace at me * Ash's Id" .. just to see if it works, then deleting the save, should not mess up the game, but I'd rather not take a chance with so much of her story left.
