Yeah, on Poncho's "3," I came up through RPGs where any access to one's inventory during combat was either impossible or was penalized. We had generally two toggle-selectable weapon slots and a few "hotkeys" for potions or healing spells.

If time would continue to pass while the inventory is open, instead of pausing, we'd have a little more "realistic" combat, in my view.

Whether that is better is a matter of personal choice. It's the way I tend to play anyway, but it's not for everybody.

Well, in a similar vein....is it not ridiculous that motion is paused during lock picking. With bandits within arms reach, you apparantly have time to pick open a chest in complete safety until the lid shuts again. Or escape through a locked door that needs to be picked open.....silly mechanics!

Yet....conversely.....during performing a decapitation in which the kill cam kicks in, nearby enemies can still get a couple of hits on you before normal control is restored.

Now that is my fault....for having a mod which enables kill cams on enemies at any time....in vanilla, only the last surviving enemy can be kill cam'ed so the issue does not arise. Nevertheless, if we are talking about actions which should..or should not happen as a mechanic...... a decap is quick...a blink....so you shouldn't get suckerpunched while doing one..imo.

Here we go.....Destiny Three......to become Listener in the DBH.

Now we have a problem here...see Adella has 100 skill in Heavy Armour..but only 10 in light with zero perks....and DBH armour is all light! So her early wet work is gonna be kinda risky.
Best smithing to Legendary will only be around AR 350......which is too low to face level 50 archers and 2H wielders.
But the risk is part of the fun.....so we are going with it anyway.

Here's the quest start (before getting DBH armour)

Yes, the opening shot is Adella sitting on that Dunmer assassin again....we were well past the point of hearing the rumour from innkeepers about Aventus Aretino......so we needed a RPG reason to go to Windhelm and seek him out. This fitted the bill....
Well, that and she just likes doing it

Ooooh....watch for the film noir moment when she enters the Aretino residence....the creeping shadow on the wall....priceless :)

Oh, you mean Lilly, yeah she's lovely. Voiced by a youtuber gal called druundev. Her tone is oddly off, giving her an endearing 'sing song' kind of voice. "Nope...nothing for you" :)

Oh and she is wicked with her dual glass swords....if she's hanging around when vamps attack.....well....vampire puree!

We are underway now and have completed our first contracts.....but even Adella was uncomfortable about off'ing Narfi :(

It is not a particularly glamorous vid....just bread and butter ;)

My first contract from Astrid. Miuri in Markarth wanted some people to stop breathing, I made that happen in......

I always head-canoned Narfi's assassination as the inn-keeper Wilhelm putting the hit on him in order to put him out of his (and everyone else's) misery since Narfi clearly has....issues. I had also assumed Narfi or Wilhelm had been responsible (perhaps accidentally, like the big lug whose name escapes me in "Of Mice and Men") for Reyda's death. Narfi would not understand until it was explained to him....Wilhelm would be more than capable of keeping quiet about it.

Interesting angle! Narfi did it?

Beth of course has left it all very open....but so many things are not explained....like why was she so near home when all the drama is about her visiting the cave on the island....they should have put her body at the bottom of the pit....that would have made sense!

Then....how come her body sank and got buried...in a moving current! The skeleton shows no signs of bone damage, not even misalignment. So COD is a complete mystery too.

Wilhelm says "I'm pretty sure she's dead" is that just an educated guess....or because HE knows shes dead...perhaps he liked her and was rebuffed...who knows.

Then....there's Narfi's dead family....it LOOKS like a whole family wiped out....like a feude...or an attack.....but could be an accident....we can't know.

Beth has kinda made it all infuriatingly unknowable......they could have made a lovely little detective thing out of it....unearthing clues until the truth emerged....not as a quest, but a side activity. Put a key on Reyda to a trapdoor in the house....with a letter or evidence therein....
Oh well...Bethesda huh! The people who so frequently make little nooks and ledges in caves and ruins....and when you managed to explore it...nothing there! Like old Septimus says "Maddening".

I think many of the little stories never finished... then again look how many people miss all the different stories in the different caves and dungeons. Not everything got finished.. "Rune" from the TG, his little mystery, never finished..Then their are the runes on the bottom of the bug jars, what do they mean, what were they supposed to mean? 101 thing's that never got finished in Skyrim..

Very true Trace <nods>

Ok, next DBH step.
Cicero...the Nightmother...and new contracts. Plus we learn that the Contessa has been chosen for a very special position!

I like the way some things are unfinished, such as the lack of details around most of the assassinations Nazir gives you....allows one to perform minor mental gymnastics and be an honourable killer, with only "evil" targets or an evil assassin preying on only the good and just....or just an amoral "tool" to complete a murder, no more good or evil than a sword.

Leaves room for much more personalised world building....like why was that skeleton attached to the roof of a troll cave? Why was Warlord Gathrik really undead? Are those bug jar runes a secret message that the Dragonborn will never uncover because their purpose was already fulfilled years ago or are they the key to deciphering the numbered treasure maps? Is Rune secretly the illegitimate child of a long extinct family of minor nobles (a la Anastasia Romanova)?

But I digress, well done to the Contessa for her promotion
I've changed my challenge set up, so if I continue trying I won't be posting here....I added Wildcat Combat with the realistic damage add-on. Means both enemies and the player deal 5x damage....makes killing things easier, but also makes combat incredibly deadly if you get hit. To me, that is what Legendary should have been....incredibly deadly but giving you a fair chance to survive without having to abuse all 3 crafts.

Well, Poncho....just so you know.....adding difficulty mods does not invalidate you from Adella's Trial....quite the opposite....extra kudos.

But it is upto you, continue to attempt her hardcore challenge with Wildcat included....or head to pastures new....as long as you know you don't have to!

Adella is doing well so far and although bosses always need respect..she has no fear of any bandits except Marauder mages.

Bears, sabrecats etc are no problem even in packs. Draugr Deathlords, Falmer Warmongers, Chaurus Reapers/Hunters however, yeah...need to keep alert with those boys.

Ok...moving on
Adella is just starting the meat of the DBH main quest

I had assumed my own damage output being increased to 5x normal would make my attempts be considered easier than otherwise....though with those settings i'd be seriously tempted to still use alchemy and enchanting for utility/resistances but smithing would be perhaps unnecessary and ignoring it would maintain the challenge in melee combat

There is nothing to say
No mere words can console
I let my love down in her time of greatest need
I am not worthy to host her

I tempted fate...the dreaded Marauder mage....not the direct cause of her demise, but the agent of her weakened condition.
I should have known better.
Gaius Maro....ironically the one she was protecting....to save his death for the right moment. He lived on.

Adella I love you
And I am so very sorry

324 hours
Our longest survival....ever
Not one healing potion taken
No npc guardian to take the flak
She is my shining star
Excuse me dear friends...I feel strangely lost just now, shocked maybe

Adella inside is quiet, I think shocked also....the suddeness
I didn't think that...
Well.....I guess I didn't think at all

We will recover our senses and begin a new likeness, but I know a death kinda stings her....I feel it.

There will be no more videos until we surpass this current position once more and that may take a while. I will probably provide a stats update periodically just so you know shes around.

But now......now I must go. M'lady needs me...y'know...inside...

Sorry Rick...

Glargg, I don't think Rick believes it is inevitable. If he did, his whole effort would be pointlessly foredoomed to failure.

Hee, quite so neil. And if one can survive two and a half questlines....then why not three..then five...or all eight!

The probability of failure increases as more and more dangerous encounters are undertaken.
The probability of failure reduces as the build gets stronger upto its max.
The probability of failure reduces with player experience!

Eventually the build maxes out and can't get better....but player experience keeps edging upward.

But as glargg maybe hinting at....there comes a time when all the baddies are in the wrong place at the wrong moment and survival drops from a calculated risk down to pure luck. Over time this scenario replays over and over....until the luck runs out....game over.

Of course then there is always rank stupidity...and forgetfulness.....we all do it..."yeah she can make that drop....ooops forgot she needs ALL heavy armour for the cushioned perk to work...didn't put her helmet on...gaaaaa!"

Bottom line....
No matter how good one thinks they are......Skyrim bides its time until you least expect.....then BAM!
So it is always just a question of time.
The question I must ask myself is.....do I believe I can get through all the questlines before the luck runs out....once is all I need ;)
I think yes....not easy mind you....but possible......and we ARE getting better :)

The question others may be asking is......why the hell does he put himself through this? Lets leave that one hanging in the air.... ;)
