Update: started the last "major quest line", The Shattered Legacy (which does stuff with the Amulet of Kings). I put it on hold until I finish Dawnguard and Dragonborn.

The reason? Well, ultimately, I want to do a playthrough with Legacy using Skyrim Unbound. I know there's a few things I'll have to console around (the Windcaller Pass bits for instance). But the point is, if I don't play the entire game, and mod, as planned by Ice, then I won't have any idea where the parts are that will be problematic with Skyrim Unbound.

So I'm jaw-clenching my way through with Serana. Gosh, I've ONLY wanted to decapitate her to shut her up a couple hundred times so far.... *SIGH*

Though I do have to say - at least she's not Valerica!

I'll feel the same way if I ever do DG again. I despise Serana!

So we all know there are a LOT of people out there who denigrate beth for not releasing games "squeaky clean". I don't go there myself - because I don't have bugs in games for the most part. Not even Undermountain.... probably the only person in the world who didn't have bugs in that game - and finished the game without the patch (you know - since if I didn't have the problems the patch supposedly fixed.... why would I have gone there?)

I think the things they all fail to take into account: the variance in platforms - and on those platforms, the variance in operating systems; the variance in number of mods - and kinds of mods; and the variance in aptitude of end users (as in, how comfortable any given end user is with the machine, the OS, the game, and the mods s/he is using).

Given all those variables - well, I give all the devs a pass. One person's bugged game is another person's smooth game....
I think some of it may just be dumb luck as well!

My first Skyrim play through lasted a tad over 300 hours. I didn't have any of the unofficial patches installed, and I also had a total of 9 saves at the end of the game. I never new that quick saving could be a problem, so I just used that the whole game!

During that entire game, I think I had 3-4 CTD, and as far as I know, never ram into a glitch. Hell, I never even saw my first flying mammoth until about 30 hours of game play ago!

Yep, see.... the element of sheer luck in a game is probably the least-considered variable. When I first started playing the Baldur's Gate games, I was informed by the bioware devs that my machine would not reliably allow BG1 to play, and that if I got it to work at all, I was likely going to be unhappy with the actual game play.

Well.... my P120 played the game just fine. I never had any issues. I posted info on my machine on the tech forum.... and they posted that "it wasn't possible". I invited Dave Gaider to my house to watch me play. He didn't take me up on it.

*shrug* I've been playing CRPGs since 1985 - mostly on machines supposedly not supported - and being told over and over "that's not going to work".

Phooey. Luck is a Lady. And I'm Her handmaiden. And besides - I'm a stubborn bitch. Tell me it's not going to work, I'm going to prove you wrong.

Stubborn is good Sere, LOL. I've had really weird issues over time, with mostly no help, because nobody had a clue. Stubborn fits me, I don't give up, and eventually...with much teeth gnashing and hair pulling, I get it figured out. :D

So.... actually.... there was another MAJOR quest line left to do. I finished it today. It took me - the better part of 4 days....

I'm NOT going to post spoilers. Because, people.... you really need to play LotD. Even if you're not a collector-type (all my girls are, but maybe a lot of characters don't go there), the sheer staggering breadth of the quest progressions is - amazing. I thought I was a good DM back in the mid-70s in AD&D. Well.... Ice is FAR better than I ever was on my best day.

This whole thing was so much fun.... I can't wait to start a new girl to do it all again!

[Caveat: I'm not done yet - still 1k plus things to add, if I get them all. But still....]

Hmmm I may just have to download it for SLE. Haven't truly fired that up since SSE came out.

I'll have to get Lucien on the ball... cause, cause.. he's going to be my collector. Why I have guy's that do more "house keeping" that my girls, I just don't know, but that is the way it's usually been.

ngl Sere, you're doing a good job of selling me on the mod

If and when I get back to Skyrim, I'll have to try it out. Miiigh have to drop a few other mods I was planning on using but it seems it'll be worth it.

Sere...Well I can't get LotD....so I am happy for spoilered descriptions of how it all works.

Anyhow....wanted to pick up on a brief mention Volstag made at post #44

"Quick saves" ......hmmm....well I do use it a lot.....in fact I only hard save at specific story line completion points. The game is fairly stable but can crash at any time of course...so Quick saving is a boon.

But...yes....I did have one incidence of QS corruption and it failed to load or even allow a return to the front end menu. For a while I feared I would have to re-install the whole game...losing everything. Thankfully once the menu did manage to shine through I could load up a hard save and then overwrite the failed Quick Save with a fresh QS. On the whole it works well ;)

Sheesh... I thought LotD was a studio lot at Paramount or Universal Studios or something... Goes to show what I know, eh? :)

The "big deal" with LotD is that it provides a framework - a reason - for questing, collecting, digging into hidden, forgotten spots in Skyrim.

I didn't know how many places I'd never been, and how many I'd failed to remember until I picked up LotD. And I'm glad I waited to do so until the "final" was done....

Back to LotD v19: I started the playthrough yesterday, and HIGHLY unlike my norm, I set out to do the Skyrim MQ FIRST. Went from about level 12 to almost level 18 getting it done. I couldn't stand messing with Season Unending so I consoled past that. I won't) be going back to Sky Haven Temple period. Esbern gave me the Odahviing shout without issue, and if he and Delphine spend the rest of eternity in Sky Haven, fine by me.

Now I'm going to do a few of the other quest lines - Companions I think, not TG or Dark Brotherhood, but Dawnguard will be next just to get it out of the way....
