I've been a Warhammer user for the stagger and the ignore armor perks. Am I missing out on greatsword and battleaxe wonderment?
I tested out warhammers, but the slow attack speed was causing me to take too much damage. Must make the most out of mobility. Also, I know where to find some very useful greatswords at level one. I also know where to find a very fast warhammer, but I'm not going intonthat place in my undies!
I was thinking about the Longhammer, too, but that is one nasty Falmer den.

Dat swinging speed doe...

heh, it seems we have a little disconnect here. My point about the logic was due to your statement that Shroudhearth was a lot of trouble for a book... and my point is, it doesn't matter about the book, if you're clearing dungeons for points, right? A usable book would certainly be a nice bonus (assuming one could use it), but certainly not the point of clearing the barrow.
...
As I see it though, the only way Shroudhearth becomes a lot of trouble for a book is if you're not planning on clearing it anyway... and why wouldn't you?
No, my point was that it's a Novice level spell tome, located in a place that's hard for a starting character to get to. It had nothing to do with whether or not I was planning to clear that dungeon.

The challenge to a mage in this competition is finding useful spells, before getting killed for lack of useful spells. :)

In order to play a mage, I have to go "squishier" than your Tubasha. Not only do I have to put some level-up points into Magicka rather than Health, I also can't Block. So getting that flesh spell is pretty important for survival, whether or not Cora is ready to completely clear Shroudhearth. It's important both to protect the character immediately, and to provide a means for raising (and perking) Alteration.

Good luck, Glargg. I admire you going against the grain. I'm sure my no magic nord will find plenty of useless spell books, just as when I play a no enchanting character I find banish.

Well, like the others, I wish you luck...

Looks to me that nearly all of the placed books are novice, and they are all in very nasty places. The one I want, "Ice Spike", is in Red Rock Mine. I think Oakflesh is the only placed flesh spell...

You say Oakflesh in Shroudhearth is a low level spell to go after for the risk, and that's true, but I don't see any spell books that are easier either. Looks to me like anybody going after any spell book is not going to get an easy ride. Of course no easy rides is kinda the point of this challenge, I guess. :)

If you're feeling extra bold, pop over to Solstheim and read a few black books. You can find tomes there that are way above your level.

Gathrik may have something to say about that. Getting to him is easy, though.

Underneath it all, Gathrik seems to be a nice guy. If you asked really nicely, he'd probably give you the axe...

You know, he strikes me as being a lonely guy.... ;)

Go visit Fort Frostmoth while you are on Solstheim. Say hi to the General for me. :hi:

Ah yes, the Cudgel. Such a nice piece of work. You only have to rip the General's heart out to get (metaphorically speaking) it's the other one you rip her <3 out. ;)

I never want to disenchant that beautiful cudgel. I always display it in Severin Manor and pray to find a weapon with the chaos enchantment.

The easiest tome to get, if you're playing a Breton, is the Bound Bow tome. Fort Amol is not far from the Atronach Stone, and combine that with Breton Dragonskin for 60 seconds of total magic absorption. That's why I was initially toying with the idea of a Conjuration/Archery combination. I suppose you could do a 3-skill of Conjuration/Archery/1-Hand, and have a reasonable character for this competition.

Second-easiest, I think, is the Flame Cloak near Dawnstar.

Kinda funny that those are both mid-high level spells, while novice spells are harder to get to.

Ya know it is.. One of the reason's I really like Grimoire with ASIS is that you find all kinds of spell tomes.. leveled! Sure you can buy tome's you can't use, but you find one's that you can and more of them.

I might have to look at the Boss Chests mod again sometime. I took it out because it was giving me super OP weapons at level 5, but I never bothered to see what kind of tomes it was leaving for me.

Just for the halibut, I went and cleared Fort Amol with Test-Cora. I got not only the Bound Bow, but also Bound Sword, a Staff of Flames, and a Staff of Zombie. Would have been great for the Conjuration/Archery/1-Hand I mentioned above. :)
