I'm sorry - I just don't get what speech has to do with buying/selling.

You don't have to have any points in speech to sell stuff....

yeah... and that's one of the thing's that no crafting does...makes you super glad to see one teeny tiny health potion!..and that Dwemer axe of burning... you think you went to heaven..

If you can't make it.. better than what can be found.. then finding "good" things.. is an awesome thing.. That is also one of the feeling's I would like..

Edit:

Sere, you get XP points when selling items.. the more expensive the item, the more "experience" you get.. thus the more it lvl's up... so just selling junk.. can raise your speech..

You didn't answer my question. What does Speech have to do with selling? You do NOT need any points in speech to sell.

So...?

Wiki Quote:

-The skill of persuasion can be used to get better prices from merchants, and persuade others to do as you ask.
-Your Speech skill also affects merchant prices; prices can be further improved using some of the Speech skill perks, barter potions or enchanted equipment.
-The base rate for buying/selling is based solely on your Speech skill and any perks or Fortify Barter effects are applied to prices afterwards.

You don't need them ( points), but you do accrue them IF you do any buying or selling. Thus if Speech is not a "Freebie" in our competitions, it either has to be picked as a skill.. or no buy or selling.. cause penalty points.

Which of course can happen, with: Bribery, Intimidation & Persuasion ..which is why I said a 5 point leeway on it..

Edit.. If I didn't get the right answer.. then I might not be understanding the exact question. I'm sorry, I'm a little on the tired side.. and being a bit dense.

Eh. Yeah. I know all that. But JEEZUS. You have to sell to live. That should never be a disallowed skill. Sheesh. Y'all need to start a new setup - where some "I need to live" basics are a given.

Seriously. NONE of you are having fun right now....

Not to derail the current conversation, here's a 3 1/2 minute video showing the average run of how things go with my test character Tubasha. She's at Redoran's Retreat in the video.

Tubasha at Redoran's Retreat

All Tubasha took was about 60 to 70 gold, a few tomatoes, 5 bottles of ale, and Amren's Family Sword.

<giggling> yeah well.. speech and lock-picking generally ARE freebies.. and can be if we all want a redo.. 5 skills and those two as freebies.. cause what's the point of being ABLE to sell when you can't get to the "locked stuff"..

I think - personally - that y'all need to set a basic "skillset" as a given in any playthrough. What's the point of making life miserable? If you make the rest of the skills drawing-set, that's good. But jeez - you need to keep body and soul together (as in.... selling so you can make enough to live on....)

Seriously. If you want people to join up playing - you can't make it where it's.... well.... like Rick's "survival" thing....

hmm you mean like always having.. Speech, Lock-picking and Pick-pocketing in the line up as Freebies?.. probably wouldn't hurt any. We DO have general rules that never change, adding those to the line-up just mean's we'd not have to think about them every round.. and other than a thief round, they probably would never get perked anyway.. just used as "general" play goes on.

At least speech and lockpicking. I'm not invested in pickpocket. The only use for it is if you're seriously into thief....

I almost never perk any of those three skills, though if I'm going for a pure thief or assassin I do take the basic pickpocket perks and "poisoner".

So.... back to the mod thing. If someone could make a mod - which allowed use of speech and lockpicking, but set it up somehow so that those particular skills didn't allow leveling....

You could use both skills, but they'd only produce QOL - coin for life.

I'm not certain either. It may be relatively easy if Skyrim is anything like Morrowind was in that regard. It's just a matter of changing the parameters on skills.

It's probably the hair, but I couldn't help having flash backs to Barbarella while watching Tubasha bring the smack down on the bandits. :lmao:
