Ohh Ack.. that sucks Neil!

Quoting Neil: I think we should use those modifications, and I have no objections to your additions regarding crafting. I think you need to clarify it a bit though.

IMO.. full blown crafting isn't needed... definitely not more than one craft...period. Personally I would limit it to Recharging, Tempering and Using potions only .. no creating.

Specially if we are playing on Expert.

Sere: It was an issue that resulted from my trying to get rid of the mod that caused the blurring...although there are other... Uhmmm... oddities showing up. I'll put a screenshot in the screenshot thread.

Areial: I'm presuming we can't buy houses? So... you're also saying we can't USE found potions unless we use that skill slot on alchemy?

No... I'm only saying I wish that Tempering & Recharging.. wouldn't raise their crafts.. so they could be used in the same way. That's never been discussed in all our rounds.. and truthfully, I wouldn't take out using potions.

IF one doesn't choose to use potions, that's their choice, it's a game mechanic...

I would probably choose enchanting as a craft, just to recharge staff's... and weapons. Instead of Smithing.....

Y'know, I swear I saw a mod that made it so tempering and recharging etc. didn't raise the skills....

A couple of pages back there was the idea of Speech AND Lockpicking being freebies. I like that idea for the "hidden treasure" fun factor of the locked chests and rooms. Use the loot if lucky or sell. If Lockpicking is an elective skill...probably not a top 5 pick.

If indeed no creating and "found items only" Alchemy is dead, correct?

Only Nekkid Nord or any unclad race of choice? I am assuming the latter but just making sure.

Whatever the stipulations are/will be sign me up :)

Now I need to start a couple new Neeps testers and check out more combos.

In for a penny in for a pound.. If speech is a freebie.. Lock-picking might as well be.. ( but the others have a say so also)

Yeah any Race... Mel is Redguard

Here's what I think.

Speech and Lockpicking free for obvious reasons.

Enchanting free for recharging. No perking, and no custom enchanting. But no penalty for skill rise.

No Alchemy, but found potions are allowed.

Smithing allowed only for tempering. No perking. No penalty for skill rise.

No armor except shields. No penalty for armor skill rise from shield use.

Player gets to choose any X skills (not listed above). All other skills are subject to penalty after 2 grace points. "X" to be determined by discussion, since we have 5 "partial" skills above.

Edit: I'm thinking that I could get by with 3 "elective" skills. (Melee, ranged, defensive.) But I could see 4. I think 5 is too many, for playing at Expert. We want this to be challenging.

That Sounds pretty good to me.. Shout out!!

4 or 5 skills aught to be enough.. 1 melee, 1 ranged.. 2 support ( block, sneak..ect..) + 1 just because luck may not be on "your" side... Works the same for magic.. just easier to plot with melee skills.

Mel will probably use 2h, archery, sneak.. maybe Block & destruction.. cloak spell.. it's find-able... 4 skills, no block.. I hate the "swing" but it keep's from "blocking"..

Edit: I can live with 3..would prefer 4... 2h, archery and sneak.. yeah, that's do-able.. would like Destruction.. but I can deal...

I think I could do a two-skill. Orc with 2-hand and Archery. Berserk for the bosses. :)

I was looking at it, and with speech and lockpick free, the only reason I actually need 5 skills is for heavy armor to cover shield use... If that's not penalized, well I won't be wasting a slot on heavy armor.

Two hand and archery would probably be good, but it's hard to do enough damage quickly with a bow to multiple foes. With Flame i can deal damage to two or three foes at once, and that can be important if one of them is a Bandit Chief and the other two are Bandit Outlaw or Bandit thug... and heaven help you if you're in say... Halted Stream and facing the mage's Frostbite slowing you down while the Bandit Chief and the orc are attacking...

Those sound great to me. The new Neeps tester is running 2H, archery, sneak, restoration and planned smithing but sounds like that might not be needed. Yeah! The looting of chests via lockpicking added much fun to this run, and the selling of the spoils gives me at least some satisfaction.

Edit: Good points Neil, and I watched your video of your tester doing good work with flames. I'll have to roll another tester and try it out. Your vampires in Whiterun video was great, and I loved how you lead them into the Hall of Companions. :thumb:

Free (unperked) speech and lockpick, plus 3 skills maximum. Otherwise, on Expert it will be too easy. 3 skills will force us to make hard choices.

You know, you said you'd like to see me get Spellbreaker under comp rules, and now I'd like to see you clear Valthume using just those skills... :D

I'm going to keep on "testing" using just 2h and destruction.. mostly to see what kind of goodies can be found... I know different staff's and such.. but.. need some kinda ranged and without buying one.. can only hope to run across a ranged destruction spell.. cloak.. a rune spell would be nice.. ranged... lightning.. yeah, I can deal...

The only real problem is that at higher levels, Destruction just doesn't do enough damage...

Yeah, archery really needs sneak to be effective. that triple damage perk is a huge benefit. 'Course, with conjuration, you can do sneak and "Bound Bow" and do some REAL damage!

One thing occurred to me last night during my test run. Under the no selling rule I didn't think I'd ever be able to afford land and build. Neeps just turned 4 and has 1700 gold doing nothing special, so building is a possibility. The "buying" of the land shouldn't be an issue IMO, but the building requires tons of smithing_making_the building mats and that alone will level smithing pretty fast..way more than just tempering. Just thought I'd bring it up. Yeah, the resources needed to build the main hall and wings without buying iron could be an event itself. ;)

BTW After I got the Lord Stone and cleared out Fort Dunstad I was all full of myself with my massive 130 health and the LS. Ice wraiths at level 4 bring one back to reality (and the load screen) real fast. :bang:
