Bummer Lupua... but.. most important.. having fun?

As Neil says.. Veggie stew, Beef stew, Venison Stew, Horker Stew ( that may be HF extended) These thing's can be life savers at low lvl's.. Elswyer Fondue for mages. And they stack... for the real toughies.. one of each stew.. health regen... stamina will help take out the baddie, but ya gotta stay alive to do it.

For me it's not as big a transition from RP to DiD.. except the specific rules.. because I don't craft-a-lot.. I probably craft more IN competitions than out..

Thanks Neil,

Yeah, I've upped my bashing after watching Tubasha, but still need to use it more. My timing needs a ton of work too. Much to learn AND to implement. I'll say that it's not the most fun getting owned and restarting, but to learn and get better you have to put in the time. The result, being "better" and more skilled, is fun. :thumb:

Edit: was writing as Areial posted

Skali is one skill point away from level 14. He nearly died to snowy sabrecat on the way to HH, but a tactical retreat and a distraction (sorry Barknar) saved his butt. He has cleared 18 + Helgen. He has nearly finished the awful Book of Love quest, so will have a bit more magic resistance. Still looking for fire resistance, so he can return to Sunderstone Gorge to save Orgnar for the Companions.

2H is 50+
Archery 40+
Block is coming along very slowly, only 25

Sorry, Lapua. Keep at it, though! :)

On the toe-to-toe fighting, sometimes, no matter what you planned, you end up in a face-to-face. I've gotten cornered a couple of times in this round, most recently by a couple of restless draugrs. It helps to have some sort of "panic button" for when you're really in a jam.

One of the things I tend to forget is all the scrolls that I pick up here and there, and just carry around. There's a scroll for every situation... :)

Cora Napple is about to turn level 11, and has just cleared Bleak Falls Barrow. That's her 18th dungeon cleared. Her 3 skills: Conjuration 37, Destruction 26, Alteration 47. She has about 16000 gold. She's at about 18:30 for time.

Tubasha has had an exciting night!

I haven't actually given a complete update thus far, but since I am nearing the halfway point time-wise, it seems a good time to do so. Here we go.

Tubasha Stats:
Level 12
Total Dungeons Cleared: 25
Total Gold Found: ..... 27,108
Hours spent: .......... 19.22

Dungeons Cleared: (I think there are two that I'm missing somehow)
Spoiler: click to toggle

22
(official game count is 24)

Dungeons Cleared but not flagged Cleared:
Hall of the Dead (Whiterun)
Red Belly Mine
Fort Greenwall

3

Skills Chosen:
Destruction ...... 34
Two Handed ....... 51
Block ............ 28
---------------------

Skills Freebies:
Speech ........... 32
Lockpicking .......29
Smithing ..........24
---------------------

Skills not usable: Current At Start Difference

Restoration ........... 15 15
Alteration ...............16 15 +1
Enchanting ............ 20 20
Heavy Armor ......... 25 25
One-Handed ......... 21 20 +1
Archery ................. 15 15
Sneak ................... 15 15
Pickpocket ............ 15 15
Alchemy ................ 15 15
Illusion .................. 15 15
Conjuration .......... 16 15 +1

Tubasha is now a full-fledged member of the companions (and of course a werewolf)

Also of note (I suppose) Tubasha killed sapphire. Trying to get Shadr a deal, Tubasha tried to intimidate sapphire. Sapphire responded with "I have the whole theives gujild at my back, what have YOU got?"

Well, Tubasha simply replied "A hammer" as she bashed Sapphire's skull in... The thing is, I hadn't MEANT to have her actually hit Sapphire, eh? I was merely roleplaying a threat, and Tubasha took it seriously. Funny, the game counted it as a murder, but there was no bounty, even though the Inn was filled with people at the time.

I knew this competition would be tough, being a skill challenge and not having my usual crafting arsenal to lean on. I didn't fully appreciate the impact of my ingrained "better living through superior everything" playstyle I have relied on. :O

Wraith Modesta level 9 fell to the Bandit Chief in Broken Helm Hollow. What really bothers me is how I let it happen. While I have studied the "Squishy Doctrine" of cunning and tactical retreat and want to emulate Tubasha and her style (and all you others too!) when the time comes and "its on" I stand my ground and trade blows. And die. Repeatedly. In this case its my Modesta vs Bandit Chief in steel armor with a 2 Hander. I have UF shout and it doesn't occur to me to use it, or maybe just run away and live??? Sigh. Wraith Modesta is dead, but I reloaded many times to try different tactics...yes I did beat him with melee eventually, but you probably know what the smart play is. Climb up on the conveniently placed ledge opposite of said Chief and arrow him to death. Now I know :ugh:

Instead of restarting a Ghost Modesta immediately, I use now Tester Modesta and explore and try to retrain my brain and NOT play like I have in the past. You know, maybe think and act like an unarmored, modestly armed player should. Okay, got my head in the game, sneaking and peeking, actually took out a group of four Frostbite spiders by being a little smarter, moving more, regrouping and reducing their number in a nice manner. Hey, I'm getting better! Woot. Walking just a couple hundred yards down the road two Sabre cats jump me and I'm toast. :bang:

What I lack in skill I (almost) make up for in stubbornness. Ghost Modesta will be started soon and shall thrive! Okay, I'll shoot for living past level 10 and go from there. :bunny:
Woof, I almost fell to that same chief last night. A sneaky power attack, even with the backstab perk, only took a quarter of his health. It took a lot of patience to bring him down! Henrik was dancing around like a boxer and darting in for sword slashes.

I haven't seen a ruling on my question.

Kane! :)

The rule says "No weapon or armor creation!" Does that include jewelry?

glargg, jewelry doesn't have armor rating does it? I really haven't ever paid any attention, 'cause of course it doesn't matter to me.... so I don't know!

Whoops, sorry, I jumped to the last post. This is how I phrased it:
Kane

Limited crafting is also permitted in this round.

- Smithing: You may temper weapons only. No weapon or armor creation!
- Alchemy: You may use potions and posions. Eating ingredients is allowed. You cannot brew any potions or poisons!
- Enchanting: You may recharge weapons or staves. You cannot enchant anything new or disenchant found items!

The intent was to be read as, "limited crafting is permitted, see below for what is allowed."

We didn't really discuss jewelry crafting, though, and because we can't enchant new items, I would say it's viable way to level smithing (if you chose it as a skill). Otherwise, you'd be penalized for every level you raise it.

Yes, and I find that inscrutable, when it comes to my exact question.

My character has Alteration as a skill, which makes it possible to "find" lots of gold ore. If I take advantage of that, and can also make jewelry to sell, I have a gold source.

Thus my question. Is it allowed under the rules or not?

Edit: Ah, you added the last paragraph. Clearer now. Thanks.

Smithing is not one of her skill, so that's that. :)

Kane.. problem with penalizing the crafts.. is that they are usable.. not that the rises are much from the limited use, but they will rise...

The idea is that one can find a staff of firebolts.. but not buy the tome, but in recharging it ( at low levels) you are not going to get a lot of use per charges... which mean's recharging a lot.. meaning skill rises in enchanting.

I'm just pointing that out.. same thing would happen with Tempering and eating Raw ingredients... not major skill rises, but enough that if they are penalized, it mean's either very judicious use or it becomes a redundant thing to have "use of the crafts"...

Then the crafts should have been included as freebies - raise-able, but not perk-able.

I know, I didn't mean to sound snippy. It's just getting tiresome that this happens in every competition. We hash out the rules and framework for three weeks, and stuff still comes up a week into it. People need to voice opinions and ask questions before it starts, but we only ever have the same core people that actually contribute to the process.

Maybe we should start setting the dates, after the rules/framework are agreed upon. That way we don't have deadlines to deal with.

I'm sorry I asked. I suppose it wouldn't be an issue for most of the entries, but my Cora has Alteration, and thus access to gold.

<sigh> yeah I know..

Two ways to deal with that.. hashing out all the rules...and say going.. going going...done deal.
OR just coming up with the rules .. "this is it, play or don't" ( which I don't like doing)

Some of the chatter is just clarification... ie we didn't talk about jewelry creation.. The answer is as simple as "it falls under creating"..

Now changing rules or adding them, that is a different story.

It does seem as if only a few of us are chatting over the rules... which is... not fine. Way I look at it, IF people don't want to contribute then they have no right to gripe.

I give input when I see something I want clarifying or don't agree with....otherwise I mostly just go with the flow since I don't often participate at present. I also end up going a week at a time without visiting the forums just because of being distracted. All these contribute to my generally low post count.....I am fond of lurking around, after all.
