I bought MW for my old X360....it ran properly at first....by trying it again a year on it had "developed" a strange slightly off, screen aspect ratio, and it wasn't centred on the screen, by several inches. Something terribly wrong maybe an Xbox firmware update or something made it incompatible. Anyhow I wanted to say...during the time I tried it for several hours....the squared graphics were just too retro for me to get comfy with. I didn't like it....so I never got to tryout the much vaunted gameplay aspect of the title. In fact compared to this years games...Skyrim is even really now looking its age. |

Like all games, the lifespan of Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallouts et al really depends on technology, and how much effort goes into keeping them currently competitive with modern graphics and animations. Each game is like a snowflake that falls fresh and bright from the sky, only to fade to dust and yellow before finally vanishing away when their time has passed. |

But but but.....I donn wan my snowflake to disappear....I loves it. Having said that....from the graphics point of view.....you must see the upcoming games. Like Red Dead Redemption 2.....its like watching a Hollywood movie. Its not alone either..the new Farcry has sumptuously real graphics. If TES looked like those..wow! It really aids immersion....so lifelike. |

*shrug* I've no interest in movies. As long as Skyrim works perfectly and looks fine, I'm not messing with anything else. Immersion. Nope. Not my thing. |

Not to mention the issue of "realistic" magic, dragons, vampires etc. I don't want fantasy settings to look like "normal" ones. That's why Morrowind is so popular, and the same for Shivering Isles. There's a lot of argument about whether the armours and weapons in the games are "impractical" - especially the skimpy ones. But when half your enemies use spells, what the best offense/defense against those? I like having to deal with the game's rules, and not just using real-life assumptions, and I certainly don't use any mods to reduce the game to real-life restrictions. |

Heh. I have to live in the real world. I certainly don't want my game(s) to be like the real world! As for "immersion" - well, I get pretty deeply immersed in Skyrim - but it's not anything like IRL stuff, and I don't try to make it look that way. |

For me Immersion has a slightly different look. It doesn't have to be real.. it has to be believable. Can I put my "reality" aside for the reality in the game. If Skyrim where Oblivion colorful, I might have some problems. I expect color, but not to an excess, could it, well of course it could.. My only issue with "skimpy" armor is support and comfort.. not skin or "the reality of armor". I suppose we could say that those GGG breasts are being held up by an invisible magical padded bra.. but that mean's the character would have to have magic.. to take it on and off every night. err yeah.. I have yet to play Morrowind.. so I have no idea about the Graphic's. |

That was kinda my point about looking "Realistic" Trace.....I didn't say gameplay wise it should look realistic....we were talking graphical representation...like the difference between Morrowind and Skyrim....same fantasy settings....waaay different realistic looks. You can still have your mushroom houses, dragons, vamps, spells etc etc but it doesn't have to look like a Warner Bros cartoon. Have a look at the teaser trailer for RDR2....you could almost really be in the old west...the hues...the dust and particle FX are amazing. It is no different to the view you could have taken back when Morrowind was at its zenith. If I popped up and said oooh MW would look better if the graphics were more realistic....then I showed a future glimpse of the Skyrim look.....would anyone say then they preferred to keep their MW look? I am hoping that we get photo realistic "movie quality" graphics for TES VI....That for me is ultimate immersion....like being there! Its the way things are heading :) Of course for all those above who actually want a non-lifelike colour palette and de-ressed detail....I am sure you will by then be able to get a mod to make the graphics look old. But I for one will revel in sumptuous fine detail and colours that look like real life. Here you go.....for Tracy. Red Dead Redemption 2 Looking REAL That is how I want games to look....still with monsters, still with magic, still with all the TES Lore.....but LOOKING like that :) Edited by Rick, Sep 25 2017, 12:29 PM.

Ah but... For Oblivion, all I needed to be Immersed in the world, was to turn down the "light" brightness, not the color.. Oblivion had a very "fantasy" feel.. Skyrim has a more gritty feel to the game overall.. and the more natural hue's suit the game, for me anyway.. though I do sometimes ( character dependent ) make it even bleaker and "dark". Actually movie western is kinda the way I hope they keep RDR.. I don't want a movie though, I want more RP than action.. but that's just me.. errr and as one of the articles said.. I'd love to play "Belle Star" instead of just John...though I also hope it isn't John.. his story is done and over.. and a prequal.. well we know how it ends.. that's no fun! One of these days I will have to fire up Morrowind and add enough mod's so that the characters don't look so.. odd...lol.. |

Trace, ya ninja'd me....go back up one and don't miss the RDR trailer...you'll love it ;) To reiterate none of my comments advocating movie looks to games were in anyway related to game content or gameplay...just graphics.. Oh and yeah...back to Trace...I get fed up with prequals too...like you say you know how it ends before it starts huh! Edit in.....yeah...I know...Ob did feel different..more fantasy. In Ob climbing aboard a Unicorn did not feel out of place...My Vulnavia was a Battlemage and that felt totally natural even for me ;) Skyrim...I could enjoy easily without mages/Khajiit/Argonians/Draugr/Dragons. Just as a straight bandit/pirate caper plus Civil War it would still work fine...it has that look about it. In fact some of the usual fantasy elements actually look out of place imo, but we don't want to lose Lore do we....Beth are already clever enough at mucking it up without extracting actors eh! Graphics really don't bother me so much. I never "tweaked" Oblivion or Skyrim other than installing the occasional texture pack. I don't care of the colors of Skyrim are bright or dark, as long as I can see where the hell I'm going. Morrowind is great, but the graphics kinda suck, so to be playable now it really needs MGE (or MGE XE or MGSO or whatever). What bothers me most though about all those improved graphics is whether or not I'm going to be able to play the damned game without a major upgrade for my computer. I don't wanna be faced with a major upgrade every other year or so, and I don't want to be forced into console play. |

Well, this machine replaced the one I originally played Skyrim on - at release. So - a LONG time ago in computer years.... like 9 years, since that machine wasn't new when Skyrim released. I got that machine in '06, and this one two years ago.... In the middle there, I did add more RAM and a bigger hdd. I'm pretty cheap. I don't upgrade just to do it, or because a game box says it won't work on my machine. Only game I've ever had not work on a machine was The Secret World - and that was because of my internet, not my machine. Edited by Serethil, Sep 25 2017, 07:03 PM.

It was a bleak and terrible day... All the color's of nature seemed aglow with the advent of spring... Color evoke's emotion and for a story can be very important.. or for me it is. |

I remeber back when, I bought "The riddle of the Sphinx"... one of the first 3d games. You move about just a little bit, but mostly all you could do was move the camera in a 360 view. My computer was so inadequate that it took about 5 minutes to make that full 360 turn, and there wasn't much in the view to see in any case. Then upgraded, got Morrowind and that was good until MGE cvame out, and I found I couldn't run it. Got a new computer, things were much better, then I got Oblivion. Oblivion was neat... I couldn't get out of the tutorial sewer. Everytime I tried was instant CTD! Got a better computer (but still not top of the line) and I could get out of the sewer but my FPS was about 15 at best. Went back to Morrowind for a year, then bought a decent computer. Oblivion was GREAT! (except for potato heads), but then along comes Skyrim. Computer plays it on low quality for an FPS of 25 or so. Not much fun, so got my current computer... three or four years ago or so maybe, I don't know. See, when it comes to names or dates, I can't really remember anything prior to the day before yesterday, and that's my handicap I got due to dying. Hell, most of the time I can't remember what day of the week it is. Anyway, it's good enough to play both Skyrim and FO4 on Ultra and FO4 runs decent most of the time (well over 30 FPS), but the next generation of games will leave me lacking, I think. The question will be how good a new GPU can be and still be compatible with my motherboard. I already know I'm not going to be able to afford a new computer. |

Missed your post. Thing is that One can write a days as anything one chooses it to be. I've seen terrible things happen on bright sunny days, so to me bleak and terrible is a state of mind. |

true.. but "it was a bright and sunny day and the old man died.." Just doesn't evoke the same kind of visceral feeling. |

The sun shone brilliant in the sky, though for all of it's brightness, it emitted a sense of impending doom and rot to everything it touched. Bloated and yellow, overlooking fields of daisy and clover that shone green but rotted just beneath the surface.... and the stench of old death filled the meadow. I enjoy that kind of thing, but... even that is not necessary if my mood is dark I will never actually see the sun, nor the flowers at all. |
