heh, I understand the "When is this going to end?" thing completely! I was amazed to discover the sequence was only 6 seconds long....

Yeah, I also know that your "three arrows" was as you say a "funnin poke", and I understand you consider such to be a reward for your earlier hard efforts, but I've never actually been able to understand it.

Here it is, almost the end of the competition for Aahni due to the time restriction, and she has only barely gotten into any crafting. She does no magic other than restoration, no alchemy other than using potions and (though rarely) the occasional poison. Her smithing just hit 30 or 31, so in the end she is very vulnerable to every major bad guy that comes along... but that's what makes the game exciting!

Aahni lives by her wits and the speed of her feet as often as by the strength of her mace or bow... and if that wasn't true, I'd be bored to tears. Even at that, Aahni is wearing far better armor than probably 90% of my characters ever get simply because I knew this competition would call for it.

That being said, I really hate the degree to which that armor slows her down. For me the ideal is something that is currently impossible in SSE. A one-key click that switches between her full set of heavy armor and nothing at all. I miss Sky UI terribly for that reason.

Anyway, that's all really beside the point for this conversation. In the end, I dislike playing the all-powerful character who is able to simply wade through nearly all opponents, killing them with insufferable ease while bearing everything they can throw at her with a yawn and a bored expression while waiting for them to be done. You call that a reward, I call it a punishment...

BTW, that very bad guy you hit in the dungeon we're discussing? For Aahni, that guy was a Falmer Night prowler (you know they have the 2.5 x damage perk, right?), who forced her to take two or three healing potions every second or third swing he took. Despite her armor, there was a real threat that he would run her out of all healing potions in a very short time.

She played "hide and seek" around a stone column with him until she was able to use a shout to blow him off of that high place. When I release the video, you'll see how that went. :)

So i spent a little time last night before I went to bed trying to get Lyn's files to load...no luck at all. I did find the "save" files and tried a manual load.. no luck their either...

So I will consider her dead and start a new character tonight when I get home. I had not made a jslot save of her presets...So can't start again with her..

Sorry to hear that, Areial! That sort of thing is always such a bummer... It's bad enough losing a character when you screw up and get him/her killed, but to just lose them to who knows what is... despicable!

That kind of sucks. I feel bad that you lose the time you put into her, due to a technical error with the game.

Shite happens... I'll start again... the real bummer for me is I had her set up exactly how I wanted. And was just ready to test out with another dungeon. .. but pretty sure... Oh well...back to the drawing board!

@neil
Yes, we like tactical combat very much and doing things like manoeuvring around two or three trolls to get them in a nice position to shout off never gets old ;)

But what I was trying to impart...in too many words...was that you practically need that level of weaponry...that is OP for regular foes....in order to face down the REALLY bad ones....like idk....a Legendary Dragon on Legendary difficulty....there are others too. And expect to survive.

We have to equip for the long (very long) haul.

You have done well with Aahni being (relatively) low powered and the balance was enjoyable for you.....but you said yourself....she is now very vulnerable to every bad guy who comes along.

Could you envision her staying alive without further upgrades in say 30 levels time and coping equally with tanks, dragons and spell flingers. You could not expect that of her.

We (players) develop our builds for specific functions. Aahni has fulfilled her requirement admirably....but you do not require her to continue on. I have to enable Adella to perform my requirement, surviving through multiple quest lines....I wouldn't even attempt that with no crafting, poor armour, weak weapons, or specialist skills like sneak......it would be quite impossible.

So where's my 'challenging' combat now then....when Adella can muller Marauders even helmetless?
Well, it is still more than evident when we face two or three Deathlords converging upon us with ebony warhammers....oh yes.....Adella is far far from invincible and only some fancy footwork and good timing with decisions made on the move saves the day. Her major weakness remains magic...especially shock...as favoured by many Dragon Priests. Drinking resistance potions only works if taken prior to the flame breath or shock hitting home. Drink it late and it doesn't work....you're dead or dying.

All this is why Aahni differs from Adella. She did all you wanted, with the build you gave her. She is not supposed to give more. Of course...you could always give her a treat post comp...super smithed gear...then expect much more from her, but then you are taking her down our path....which you don't want ;)

Horses for courses eh!

@ Trace,
Aw soz to hear that hon...what a royal pain in the butt. :(

I am of two minds. On the one hand, Aahni... and on the other Tubasha. These two will be vying for play time after the competition. Playing one of those two is very different from playing the other.

Aahni uses armor, even if it is far from the best, but Tubasha is very... tribal, and performs best wearing nothing at all. You say I would not ask it of Aahni to continue on without becoming a tank, but my answer is why not?

For years I've watched you Rick, you develop your long term character like Ulda or Adella You work hard (a laudable effort, BTW) and tank them up, but what seems to always happen in the end? Perhaps you'll make it this time, I truly hope you do, but... what if there are other ways of doing the same thing? What if there are even better ways of doing the same thing that DON'T require smithing? If nobody ever tries, or asks it of their characters, then we'll never really know, will we? :)

Kane... I went back to Blackreach, I'd missed the Reeking tower but I got it now, and I noticed a couple of other places I'd done but hadn't listed earlier like Deep folk Crossing, and it seems I hadn't mentioned Spellbreaker with my artifacts. However, while I was trying to get all of those rectified with reality, I noticed that you don't seem to have Raldbthar Deep Market as a Blackreach destination. Admittedly, there isn't much there, but there are a couple of Falmer around on the side of the place.

Raldbthar Deep Market is the last zone of Raldbthar, not Blackreach. :)

But you can get to it in Blackreach... Not the same area as you're in in Ratballs though...

It's the same zone in the final chamber of Ratballs, where you activate the stairs with the tuning sphere. Just like the Mzinchaleft Gatehouse.

Brief update:

Managed to squeeze in a little play time this morning before the mum got up.

Dhark has completed Lost to the Ages and is the proud owner of the Aetherial Staff.

He'll be hitting the books and progressing the CoW questline in order to open up Mzult, he also needs to talk with Riften's self appointed protector prior to heading out to Mzinchaleft another stop on his itinerary. While over in that direction he's got a "date" with a Pale Lady to get the final word of ice Form. ;)

Aahni has fallen to three Burning Spriggans on Solstheim. Actually, she didn't realize the third one was burning her from behind while she was fighting the first two... Too much flame, eh?

So, stats and scoring as best I can figure:

Aahni is Level 31 (Difficulty Eggspurt)
Hours in: 52.54

Crafts:
Spoiler: click to toggle

Primary Skills:
Spoiler: click to toggle

I'm not certain where the unaccounted for perks are ATM... I can look if it really matters to anyone.

Freebies:

Unused Skills:

Her Attributes are:

Dwemer Dungeons cleared:

Killed:

Letter from Calcemo: 1 received, not completed (artifact Dwemer Dagger of Burning was destroyed)

Centurion Dynamo Cores: 25 x 25 = 625

Spoiler: click to toggle

Score: (you might want to double check me, eh? ;)
Spoiler: click to toggle

I thought you might get a chuckle out of seeing Aahni's Dwemer Treasure House... She never sold any Dwemer stuff, except I think 2 15 pound cogs when she was overburdoned once, and she used 10 dwemer ingots to make arrows after she ran out.

Spoiler: click to toggle

BTW Lapuaboy, she had 15 Crimson Nirn Roots, but I'm pretty certain you need 30 of them to do anything with them quest-wise.

I think that's all for me for this round. I'm tired of Dwemer ruins by now, eh? :D
