Thanks everybody! Tubasha would have liked to have given a speech thanking all of the "little people" who made her victory possible while starting a tour promoting "Whirled Peas", but I convinced her it would be better just to shut the hell up and let her actions speak for her... ;)

My test character (a Redguard "spellsword") has just hit level 10, and has cleared Mzulft (she has done the CoW questline to that point.) So far, she has managed with only the 6/2 limitation, but it's becoming obvious that she's going to have to add Enchanting to the mix as the difficulty rises.

I think we're wise to loosen up the rules for this one. The 60 hour limitation in itself puts enough of a "hurry" on play, and thus risk-taking.

I've done a couple test's of skills.. not much the last couple days... but yeah, higher lvl's are going to need more than one craft.

I just started over again.. different load order.. and plan on: Light armor, 2h, smithing archery,.. conjuration and destruction from the beginning, enchanting ( but just lightly til at least getting to Adept or Expert) .. some Alchemy at least enough to make base potions as needed.

Wonderful thing about 2h.. you can seriously get away with no perk's for a very long time.

The time limit is definitely going to be a hurdle/wall for me, of course that's assuming I can stay alive. For me, the best chance for a long life and not restartitis is to build her up to a "comfortable" level before getting really serious. Call it wimpy, conservative, a Nekkid Nord hangover or whatever, I'm trading precious "Dwemer hours" for "foundation hours."

My competition build will be a female Breton sneak archer in light armor. My tester Tracy Gene, which I'll follow pretty closely in the competition needed to be level 15 to clear Nchuand (with me at the helm ;) , and of course the arms race is on. I like a challenge, but I don't like being one-hitted and getting worked all the time, so I tend to bring guns to knife fights.

Tracy Gene is level 37, but has 28 hours played and only cleared Nchuand, Mzinch (Grimsever), Muzuft, the Aetherium ruins quest dungeons, Blackreach, has collected 13 centurion cores and assorted books so there is definitely a timeframe problem. I have no illusions about "winning" this competition, I just want to have fun. I actually enjoy the build/craft/grind so that IS fun to me, while making my character much more durable and capable. She will be viable on Master and Legendary, but boy those hours tick away...and there still is that one mistake that can bring it all to an end.

What a neat competition this will be! What is cooler than Dwemer ruins? I know there are places I haven't been to in a long time or have never seen, and the atmosphere "down there" is awesome. Really looking forward to it! :tes:

One of the big challenges for me is the lighting/weather mod I'm using. I love the effects, but it makes interiors much more difficult. Dwemer ruins have areas that are so dark you need a torch or light spell, and wherever there is escaping steam, there are heavy steam clouds that obscure your vision.

My test character is Sriracha, a redguard female. I'll probably restart this same character for the competition.

She has a couple of centurion cores, and has just learned to smith Dwarven. Having done Mzulft, she'll probably ignore the rest of the CoW quest line, and take up the Aetherial Forge thing. When she meets the Afflicted Refugee, which should be soon, she'll do the Spellbreaker quest; she's a sword/board fighter, so it will be useful.

I'm trying to stick to "test mode," but it's hard to not get into the character, and start going off on tangents. :)

Neil, I tried to do an interview with Tubasha, but I just couldn't understand a word she said amongst all the hawk feathers that kept poofing out of her mouth! :teehee: Grats on the win!

I am wondering
how we get out
of this limbo
that we're wandering in
that is, the time between now and then
to reach that "when"
where our studies in Dwemerology begin

11 days to go and time seems to move so slow

Oh, have the powers that be put up info on the "other" site yet?

Hmm. impatience.... is a problem.

It's interesting - this impatience. It may be that the movers and shakers of these competitions need to.... feel.... the impatience. Because it seems to me that it's when you HAVE that impatience that the competition is - the very juiciest.

My other test character, Edwinna Elbert, has arrived by boat at the city of Windhelm.

About 200 years ago, when she was head of the Ald'ruhn Mages Guild, on Vvardenfell, in the province of Morrowind, Edwinna suffered an accident.

She was traveling by the Propylon teleportation system to the stronghold of Rotheron, on the island of Sheogorad, when the system failed. She arrived in the destination Propylon Chamber, unhurt, but the Propylon was dead; she was marooned.

To make matters worse, the island was in ruins, abandoned, and Red Mountain, to the south, was erupting.

To make matters even worse than that, most of her magics no longer functioned properly; clearly the destruction of the Tribunal, along with their source of power, had completely altered the local Magicka. She could cast only a few novice spells, barely enough to survive.

Eventually, she managed to hail a Nord fishing boat, and she learned the full truth of her predicament. She had been thrown hundreds of years into her future, and the world she had known was long dead.

I purposely wander off course with my test character.. I'm more or less just testing out the build.. I really don't want to run to many of the Dwemer ruins..

I want to try and lvl as slowly as possible.. so use as few skills as I can get away with .. using more and more as her lvl goes up.. but still as few as possible.

I'm bouncing.. with anticipation.. and some people wanted to go with the later date???

Glargg's backstory scenario for Edwinna was starting to engage me.....I wanted more detail....sounded fascinating.

Maybe it was just setting up the excuses for the low level starting conditions...but damn if it wouldn't make a great tale in its own right.

And I think it's more likely to end up as a separate tale, too.

I think Edwinna's story isn't going to fit into this competition, because I'm more interested in her growth and recovery as a mage than I am in rushing her through this competition.

The "original" Edwinna was very much the Dwemer expert, to the degree that she was supposedly near to being able to create her own centurion. I think 60 hours will be too short a time, and too rushed, to do what I want with the character.

Also, I'm becoming quite fond of my Redguard, Sriracha. She's very competitive, and eager to start.

Az Made it to Markarth ( carriage) lvl 1 has risen to lvl 2 ... so far she has cleared the Hall of the Dead, but still need's to go to Reachcliff cave... She has killed Nimbe but went no further their either.. The Vigilant is waiting on her inside the Haunted House ( and will wait.. forever) .. We will be waiting to get a wee bit more gold before reading Eltry's note.. I want to get bound sword first.

We did not get very far this morning... storm's are rolling through, just normal T-storm's, but that mean's lightning and I have my PC un-plugged. I have a very good surge protector.. but.. why chance it!?

My Breton, Celia, has been in stasis for a few days now. If we allow alternate starts, I think I'm going to use the escape this cell option. Eliminates the looooong vanilla start, but has a nice dungeon to start out in, with ample supplies for a novice beginning.

Yeah, and at novice difficulty, the spooks in there aren't much of a problem. And "Lucky" Lorenz is just outside the door. :)

I put the Alternate Start in the rules on the 1st page.. as no major up-roar insured .. I figured no one had any real issues with that.

I had planned on the "Camping" start.. or an Inn start... camping most likely you get a few things, but less than you'd leave Helgen with, plus less in the way of skill rises..

I even have an optional "look" I keep thinking Heavy armor.. but I generally just don't like heavy armor.. this one in-particular.. it look's Dwemer-esque..without being "bulky".. but it's..heavy and I believe need's gold and steel to create.. lot's of gold..which Kolskeggr mine has.. but..<shudders> very scary at low health and all!
Spoiler: click to toggle
