According to reports I'm hearing about E3, Bethesda announced they're going to do their own system for paid mods. Say goodbye to stuff like SKSE and SkyUI for free. I'll never use paid mods, ever. I can't afford them with Mikael being the person paying for my expenses. I refuse to ask him to pay for trivial shit. Too bad, too, because the default UI is hot garbage lately. |

Posted this in General as well as info for folks. From the Creation Club FAQ: Is Creation Club paid mods? No. Mods will remain a free and open system where anyone can create and share what they’d like. Also, we won’t allow any existing mods to be retrofitted into Creation Club, it must all be original content. Most of the Creation Club content is created internally, some with external partners who have worked on our games, and some by external Creators. All the content is approved, curated, and taken through the full internal dev cycle; including localization, polishing, and testing. This also guarantees that all content works together. We’ve looked at many ways to do “paid mods”, and the problems outweigh the benefits. We’ve encountered many of those issues before. But, there’s a constant demand from our fans to add more official high quality content to our games, and while we are able to create a lot of it, we think many in our community have the talent to work directly with us and create some amazing new things. |

Sooooo, Modding will continue and remain free as it is now.....but Beth are going to be making there own in house developed mods ("content") with the help of certain mod authors. Those will have a price, but probably released as bundles of compatable ones. The Bethesda developed mods will be tested to ensure full compatibility with the existing official content. Thats how I read it. I don't see anything bad there....at least not yet! Edited by Rick, Jun 12 2017, 06:22 AM.

The only issue I have with paid for content is try before you buy. Currently...you load a mod....don't like the sunsets...uninstall....end of. Beth CC mods...you bought it...don't like it...what? Tough titty? The plus side is tried and tested compatible mods....Developed properly. Currently we get some great mods by MAs with a professionsl flair and attitude.....but we also get some real stinkers that can screw your game....its a lottery. Also....on console....the ever present threat of some MA throwing a tantrum and withdrawring mods you have in you LO ( greying out). Or mods being withdrawn due to false reporting. That won't happen with a Bethesda published mod...once you buy it...its yours for life....well, your copy of it. Since the Beth CC system is extra to....not instead of....the current system, what's not to like. I do understand the fear...the thin end of the proverbial wedge. Yes, but we are all at risk from imposed change...and always have been. Look at it like this....currently mods as published on nexus....are not only free...but not withdrawrable by Bethesda....short of Beth phoning Robin and asking nicely to drop a mod entry. It has become expected to be sacrosanct! But.....all Beth ever needed to do was code in some DRM to the base game to make only keyed or licensed mods work. MAs would have to pay for a key to make their mods workable and pass the cost on to users. Beth do not want to stiffle MAs creativity......that is why you have a free CK to begin with. So I wouldn't worry too much about the future of modding....Beth could have taken control long ago if that was their end game (pun noted). |

*shrug* In the long run, it's not going to make any difference to me - because I'm not ever going to move to SSE, and they will most likely not have CC mods for SLE. |

It looks more like a way past the Sony restriction on resources. PS4 users can have mods if Bethesds check them out first. |

So long as they work with the right mod authors. Y'know, the ones that can see what Beth devs do wrong and fix them before release. ^o) Call me a skeptic too... |

Hmmm. Well paying for big quest mods, new zones....practically like regular official dlc expansions Yes! Paying for a cloak, sword, brighter torch......absolutely not. But its the micro transactions where the money is....not the once per year expansion for twenty bucks.....but the new single trivial item every other day for a couple of dollars...sword and armour re-tex etc. |

Nickle and dimming ya... yeah... and yeah it would suck if it's "just"... but some thing's just aren't a great idea. and it really doesn't have to be a huge expansion... something like ( not specifically) Chesko's mod's.. Campfire, Frostfall and Wearable Lanterns.. this would be a great "hunters/ survivor's DLC pack.. maybe add in a cloak mod.. and/ or fur armor.. something that takes the Skaal "fur" and makes it an armor.. Not a "huge" pack, but a huge game changer.. You see, not a Dragonborn sized pack.. but something that many people might want. |
