Thanks sis! Yep, this is one of those oddball things - a "leftover" or "left out" something.... It's almost as if the devs simply didn't think about what needed to happen to finish the entire story-arc.

Wow, what a dark side Falion had. Agni is an engaging character, to boot!

Heh. Now, keep in mind this is my own take on him and Agni, not story canon! Thanks Kane!

I always felt that there should have been more to Falion's story... though I doubt I'd have foreseen anything quite so dark. Well done nevertheless.

Dang, next thing you know somebody will be telling me that Gandalf was a gay pedophile who liked Hobbits because they looked like little boys...

Very good Sis! I've always thought Falion 'unfinished', but always thought him bit dark too. Maybe it was the mystery about him, and I certainly like the way you've treated him here. :D

Ouch, neil! Nope, not going THERE.... Thanks! In any case, as I said, this is all my take on him, to fit the story going on behind....

Thanks Sis! I tend to have "oddball" reactions to NPCs - like my classing Ulfric as having a Napoleon complex....

Twenty-six: Curiouser and curiouser

I took Agni back to the manor on Vigilant as it was getting late and she was enough older that I really didn’t think she should have to walk back. She was grateful, and said just as I started to turn Vigilant, “I will do what I can to find Serana a cure as soon as possible. I - think - the only reason I feel she can be cured is that she spent so much time in stasis....”

“It’s good of you to do what you can. I know she’s as appreciative as a very young woman can be - one who is actually thousands of years old. Agni - be warned. Her mother Valerica is - not going to be happy about what we do for Serana.”

“So I assumed. I - have my own protections.... even against a Daughter of Coldharbour. Worry not for me!”

And so we left it.

I walked into the house to find Var, g’ma, Serana, and a letter from Valerica. Well, at least it wasn’t the vampire herself....

My daughter: you are being misled by those with whom you are currently sojourning. There is no way forward to a cure for your vampirism. Soon you will see that these “friends” of yours are simply using you to ends of their own making. Come back to the Castle at once. This is where you belong, and I will forgive your rebellion once you are back home.

I glanced at Serana after I finished reading. “Shall you go home then?”

“No. Whatever of life I have left, with or without the vampirism, I will live it away from the Castle and Valerica.”

G’ma said softly, “Serana - I’m still very sorry that the only way forward for you and Valerica seemed to be to kill Harkon. If we had all known more....”

“No. There truly was no other way. If you had not helped me to kill him, he would never have rested until I was dead and he had harvested my blood. By the time you freed me from the tomb, and I had enough intellect to really think about it, I could see that ever since I was born almost, Harkon had leashed me to his service - and eventually I would have been nothing more than a way to fill a bowl with blood in fulfillment of that vile prophecy. You did me a favor, Verinne Ravenwing. A HUGE favor.”

“So, I suppose the next thing is that Valerica’s going to show up on the doorstep. That’ll be interesting.” Var was anything but happy, though trying hard not to show it.

“I don’t think she will. I will write her back, and tell her that I will continue in my efforts to find a cure, without mentioning Agni. And then, I will tell her that my efforts will entail traveling into Cyrodiil, to Skingrad I believe. And perhaps I will find a way into what is left of Yokuda....” Serana stared off into either the past, the future, or space - I couldn’t tell which. Maybe all of them.

“Thank you all, for helping as you can. And especially, Tiercel, for helping me learn to ride. How shall I find a horse which will allow me to ride him?”

Var looked her over broodingly, then turned to me. “Tier will have one for you I’ve no doubt. I don’t - want you to feel you have to leave to protect us though.” Well, that was - different. I wondered what that was about.

“Oh, no. I’m not trying to protect anyone! You’re all quite good at handling whatever life has put in your way. I - need to regather the things I lost and never knew I’d lost in all the millennia I was shut away. I need to - grow up, I believe. And if setting a tiny puzzle for Valerica helps that along, well, that’s a good thing after all.”

“Well, then. Tomorrow I will find you a horse, and you will start riding every day, to learn all the rest you need to know. If you’re going to Skingrad, probably first you should head for Falkreath, and cross into Cyrodiil through Pale Pass, then stay somewhere in Bruma - they won’t be any better about vampirism than Skyrim is, but most likely you can find somewhere to camp and hide during the day.”

“I’ll need to make the synthesized blood - and take the ingredients with me. I - can’t - even think about using humans any more....” If a vampire could go pale, she did.

So we left it at that. I thought I knew just the horse - BaanDar, an easygoing gelding. He was so calm, he had to be gigged with spurs just to get him to move into a long walk. We’d start with him in the morning and see what happened.

Dat Valerica! Grrrr...

I feel sorry for Serana, in a way I never would in-game. The way you've tackled this is wonderful Sere, and a pleasure to read. :)

Thank you! See.... I just thought Serana should have her day in court....

[And yes.... I seem to have got thoroughly sidetracked on Durnehviir. You don't want to believe that though....]

Interlude: Tiercel

With Serana off on her own, maybe things can get back to normal around here. It only took her a seven-day to get really comfortable with BaanDar, and he with her. What she was didn’t seem to affect him at all. That was to the good of course.

When I asked Var about his ambivalence with Serana he shrugged and said, “I - found myself feeling sorry for her. I didn’t of course want her mother showing up here after her, but I also didn’t want her to feel as if we were in a huge hurry to shove her out the door. If there’s one thing I know, it’s that she can’t possibly react like a normal young woman. First there’s the vampirism, and then there’s being shut away for thousands of years.

“So I just tried to hope she’d understand.... Probably didn’t manage it!”

“Oh, I think she did - as much as she can understand emotions that is. We’ll see if we hear any more from her - or her mother. I rather hope not.” He nodded agreement, and we went home to have a meal by ourselves for a change.

And then my mind turned to Arngeir, who was still at g’ma’s while I’d been dealing with Serana. Of course from there I thought about Durnehviir. And had a sudden idea.... Perhaps it was time to go talk to Talos again. And maybe.... see if it would be possible to somehow - contact Akatosh.... I left that all to bubble in the back of my mind while I helped Melki with some of the things that had got ignored while I’d been working with Serana and BaanDar.

We had a few days of normalcy. At this point I guess that’s all I can ask.

Tier -->Talos -->Akatosh= :thumb: I can't wait to see how this unfolds! I do hope a certain ancient mother vampire doesn't wig out and cause huge problems for all concerned.
