You'll think of something, as I'm sure Tier will too! Seems like the princes don't necessarily give Tier ideas, but rather they order her thoughts so she sees them, none get buried for too long. :D Good one Sis! |

Thanks Sis! I - *think* that we're at that "you can give a woman a fish - or you can teach her to fish" sort of thing.... |

Interludes: 1 - Arngeir 2 - Durnehviir Arngeir: I’ve never been an introspective man. For one thing - the Voice - rather obviates introspection, since it becomes ALL. Now, at this late point in my life (a life which extends far beyond the years most ascribe to me) I have come to realize that perhaps, a life obsessed with the Voice is - a self-limiting study. I wonder about some things I have read regarding our founder, Jurgen Windcaller. There are - well, were - in our library at High Hrothgar (well.... we called it a library - but the books and bits of paper were.... everywhere. Sometimes it took us.... weeks.... to find something....) several purported writings of Jurgen himself - and in at least one of them he said much the same: that perhaps a life spent concentrating on one thing to the exclusion of all else of worth in the world, was more of a - coward’s retreat. I’m not proof against Verinne’s life and the living of it. True, she woke to the other side of the Voice - that of the Dragonborn, in her case the killer of dragons, including Akatosh’s first son, Alduin. But she also preserved (and still retains I believe) many dragon souls - since she had to kill the dragons, and since she had to absorb - “eat” - their souls, she chose to become a repository of those souls. She refused to use those souls to unlock any Shouts other than those she had no choice but to use in “killing” Alduin. So - she is a.... bank.... of dragon souls. And - what will happen to them when she dies, as we all will? We should talk of this. Those souls should not go to waste - nor be released into the world upon her death.... Durnehviir: I watch the thoughts of those involved in this grand play. Yes, even though I am - bound in this awful place (and I say it - a dragon - it is more awful than you can know....) I watch the thoughts and feelings of Arngeir the Greybeard; Verinne the Ravensdaughter; Tiercel Ravenwing the Jarl of Morthal and High Queen of Skyrim - and all who enter their lives: Serana the vampire - her parents should have been sent to Oblivion before they were allowed to do what they did to her; Tiercel’s siblings and children who love her unreservedly; the Princes Azura and Meridia - and what do they think in their daedric-princely minds?; Tiercel’s husband, Vartain High King.... Now, he is a very interesting personality. I am sure Tiercel knows it, but I wonder about the rest of Skyrim. And then.... there is Talos Stormcrown. And Valerica the Daughter of Coldharbour - by her own gift of herself to Molag Bal - in order to attain power equal to her hubris. What an unusual cast of characters. If I never am allowed to leave this Cairn, still I will have enjoyed this particular scenario within it. But - I would like to shed the dross of this place, take wing one last time in Tamriel, circle the entirety of its globe before being allowed into Sovngarde. I have - paid the price for MY hubris. I can only hope that Tiercel will find a way to release me from my soul’s pain. |

Music for Arngeir, Durnehviir, and Serana: Now, in my mind, this winds up as "Dirge for the Lost". So keep that in mind.... Edited by Serethil, Jul 16 2017, 11:42 PM.

Too bad killing Valerica wasn't an option in the DG questline. Always nice to see the other perspectives - I like how Durnhy is just sitting back with some popped corn. |

Well, poor guy - not a lot else he CAN do.... Personally, I would have liked a third ending to Dawnguard: one that included killing Valerica too, and in so many words telling Serana to take a hike. As people you have to leave alive and well in the game, those two bend me all out of reason. Of course, mostly that's because I really hate leaving loose ends.... |

Ah, Arngeir finally questions his own life, his own 'dedication', to nothing but the voice. I've often wondered why they didn't figure out a way to help their own world with it. Poor Durnehviir, I'm with Kane, at least he sees other lives. So sad he can't live his own! Wonderful Sis, andIlove the music too! |

I'm sure I've said this before, but... "Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Give him a bullet, and you'll never hear from him again..." A FONV quote given by a lady ghoul, but I've always found it apt, eh? :) Introspection is not necessarily a good thing for folk like the graybeards who dare not question the purpose of their existence. It becomes similar to the conundrum of Zetan. "If a man guards a book against all comers year after year, which then is more important... The man, or the book?" BTW, I like the music. Sounds familiar somehow... :) |

Thanks sis! Yeah, I really like bending storylines, you know! And personalities that beth has set in stone.... Thanks neil! Didn't I get it from you to begin with? I like the angle on the quote from FONV! |

Twenty-eight: Let’s have a chat with Talos I pried Var out of Solitude (as well as out of the “court” in Morthal); I wanted company on the ride to High Hrothgar; he was always my preference for company of course! He agreed it would be good to get away a bit. I think he was quite tired of court shenanigans himself, so a small trip was in order. We took a carriage to Whiterun, with the horses tied behind, and then made a somewhat leisurely trip to Ivarstead, where we spent a night at the inn. The next morning we left the horses tied near the inn on some grass close to the river so they had water as well as graze, and headed up the Seven Thousand Steps. As usual, we had to kill some wolves and frostbite spiders. You’d think they’d leave this cold hunk of mountain for warmer areas where there was more prey.... After dealing with that, we wended our way along the steps, stopping at the little shrines with the tablets detailing some of the knowledge about dragons and the Way of the Voice. We weren’t in much hurry - we’d decided to spend a night in the old monastery before going up to Paar’s Aerie in the morning. It was nice to be completely alone - we’d missed each other, so made up for it that night. We never get tired of each other, a blessing I know other marriages don’t have! In the morning we ate sandwiches, drank some water instead of ale, packed up and set off up the trail to the Aerie. We had to clear some trail - there had been a few rockslides since I’d been here last. Considering the height, and the cold, we were glad of the exercise! And we had to kill a pair of ice wraiths. Grumbling, we went on, and finally reached the top about midday. Var settled the bedrolls and himself on them, while I went into the encircling arms of the shrine, knelt and waited, holding my soul and senses open to receive whatever might come. “Well daughter. I am pleased - you do always seem to come to the correct conclusion. Eventually. No no. It’s not that I think you should do so instantly, or without real thought. Far from it! Your mind working around what is best to happen for all these entities is good for you - and for them - as being told by an outside source would not be. So - detail for me what you have come to discuss.” I went over it all point by point, for each of the three. Arngeir of course was simply putting off his acceptance of Sovngarde until something could, he hoped, be done for Durnehviir. And Serana was now on her own for the first time in thousands of years, seeking the cure for her sort of vampirism - if she returned with a cure or having taken a cure elsewhere, then would her situation be more direct. “The crux of the problem is the same as always for Durnehviir. We admit that we should not have thought to offer Alduin’s soul in exchange for his. That was not well done of us at all. And I hope that I will be able to offer something to Akatosh in penance for even thinking to do so.” I felt that warmth that meant Talos Stormcrown was pleased with me. “I am always pleased with you, Tiercel Ravenwing. You never fail to admit when you are wrong, and you exhibit no hubris when you are right. We will consider this.” We? Did he have a club in his tunic pouch? I just bowed, stood, and went to sit next to Var. After a few minutes, I told him all that had been said. “We? What?” “I don’t know, love. It will be interesting to see what happens next.” |

I'm curious myself, about that 'We'! So nice that they get some time together too, though I also find myself curious as to Var's thoughts about Durnheviir's 'problem'. :) :thumb: Getting almost caught up on stories, work has been a beast... |
