Eh, you won't offend me. I know there are cultures/cults which are fixated on man becoming god (and that would be "man" as in "male") - and I just disregard that sort of thing. In fact, aside from tale-telling in various worlds - I don't believe in deity at all. Never have, never going to. |

No, not that's not it at all. In fact it wasn't you that I was thinking would be offended, eh? :) As to Deities, well for what it's worth, get back to me after you've died, and we'll see what might have changed... :D |

I won't get back to anyone after I'm dead. I'll be disintegrated into component atoms, and hopefully improve the health of the universe. I'm aware that you lived beyond a "dead is dead" moment IRL. I don't expect that to be something I'll experience - and if I did, I don't expect it would suddenly make me believe in a god, or gods. I'm a "pure science" believer. I don't find any use at all for "deity" as implementer. That's humanity looking for a crutch. |

What I meant was that people say "Why would God let children suffer and die" or "I prayed for this or that and was or wasn't answered"... The answer is that God just doesn't give a damn. Doesn't care about you or me, or the entire human race, or even the planet earth. He has more important things to think about. |

Oh. I quite agree. Which is why I don't believe in "a - or any" god. |

Mount Everest doesn't care either, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Although, I have to say that I have difficulty accepting the notion that Paris exists. Oh, I know, there are people who say they've been there, but you know how people lie... and photographs can be photoshopped to show any damned thing... Paris is just a huge conspiracy theory put together by the Illuminati and Scientologists to sell the proletariat worthless art for millions of dollars. Damn, I seem to have gotten into the whole thing anyway... Just don't tell the guy on the grassy knoll... ;) |

ROFL! Well, damn, neil. I've been to Paris. And Rome. And Vatican City. And Stuttgart. And the strange little area in Switzerland where husband's ancestors originated. Not to mention Seattle (where I nearly got kidnapped in Pioneer Square), Portland, San Fran, Denver, Dallas, Chicago, New Orleans, and DC. *sigh* I never managed to get to Edinburgh. Or Stonehenge. And I have ZERO interest in New York.... |

Since I respect your word, and I don't think you would lie to me about it, I must presume that someone slipped you a hallucinogenic mickey, and using behavior modification techniques, convinced you that you had been to all of those places, of which only Seattle is real. I know Seattle is real because that's where my Dad bought me my first submarine during the World's Fair... it fired torpedoes and everything, and I almost sank one of Cecil's shoes. Cecil was a stuffy old friend of my dad who went with us on that trip... He drank a glass full of raw eggs every morning trying to ease his ulcers. If only somebody had told him that ulcers are caused by a virus, he might have been happier, eh? |

*snicker* Well, I could provide photos - but then, if you're sort of a flat-earther, you'd accuse me of photo-shopping same. Stalemate. As for Cecil and his ulcers - I'm not sure he'd have believed a tiny viral microorganism could be at fault for it. For instance - my mother insisted she couldn't POSSIBLY have gout - because gout was caused by drinking brandy to excess. (Which piece of disinformation she got reading - um - well, I have no clue....) |

I chuckled as I read the back and forth with you and Neil. :lmao: Seriously good Sis, it touched me, and made me grin with delight as the Twins 'laid down the law' with the family. I look forward to their tale! |

Thirty-four: Partings, and sorrow Now, everyone knew I did not want my twins off in the Soul Cairn, or anywhere dangerous. But all of us were fully adult, and each one of us also knew that sometimes, you just have to do what lands in your laps.... Each of us has met that moment, himself or herself - and every one of us has done what needed doing when presented with that particular point in time. This was the first time we had to face it as parents though. Var held back tears - but barely, and when we finally went to bed, we sobbed together, quietly. I knew g’ma was crying too, and while Arngeir wasn’t so emotional, he too was distressed, I could feel it. Morning came finally, and we all stood together inside the shrine’s encircling arms. We didn’t speak, and of course I couldn’t read the others’ minds, but I thought they were probably asking much the same as I did: ‘As I love you, please help my children live through this. I will not stop loving you if they die.... but I’m not sure I will myself live over their deaths. So.... please....’ And - while I felt their regard, I didn’t feel that benediction. Perhaps I didn’t deserve it for this time. We headed down the Steps toward Ivarstead. The twins had taken their leave of us at the shrine, which was probably as much to spare themselves as the rest of us, and we decided to stop at High Hrothgar overnight. Var and I held each other about as tightly as two people can and still remain two separate people. My entire being shook with fear for my children. When the other five found out what was toward with the twins, they were all going to want to get involved - and that just couldn’t happen. Just.... no. At that point I fell deeply asleep - and finished the night without, as far as I know, any dreams at all. And the next day, we made Ivarstead, got into the carriage and headed for Morthal. I considered it both unusual and a blessing that we didn’t talk. Finding Ourselves - the Twins' Tale |

Naturally, the story was a good read, but sitting here thinking about it made me wonder... i know several of our members have been in the military in the past, and I'm sure at one time or another they have faced the prospect that they either did, or at some time considered that they might have to, go into harm's way. I wonder though, how many of us have children that have gone or might go into harm's way? My children never found themselves in a position where military service seemed a good idea, but I have grandchildren who are currently active duty. I am very proud of them, but I fear for them at the same time. If I could, I would gladly go in their stead... or at least go with them, eh? Enemies would die laughing, I presume... :) Still it's one thing to face danger personally, and another thing entirely to have those you love face in that position. |

Yep. Neil, I about died of heart failure before my daughter and SIL got themselves and their girls home from Germany - while the terrorists were ramping up in EU and everywhere else. I've never been much into motherhood etc. - but believe me, I was PATHETICALLY grateful that they got shipped home, everything and everyone intact, except for a few scratches on daughter's Mustang (which of course she now bitches about not being able to drive the way she did on the Autobahn.... *sigh*).... [Oh, I posted a little "intro" thing on the Twins' Tale thread....] Edited by Serethil, Jul 31 2017, 08:44 PM.
