Heh. I didn't know it meant popcorn.... or I wouldn't have to ask! See, to me it looks like something you ate disagreed with you, so you're green.

This is why I'm not into emotes! In any case, no worries!

Wow, and the mystery gets deeper! Hehe, I think if Valerica tried to harm Tier, she just might get another surprise. Gods, Arngeir must be really creaking by now!

Love this Sis!

Thanks Sis!

You know.... I really do think that the fact that those old men were already old when Veri dealt with them - seriously ancient - must mean that there's something about following the Way of the Voice which.... hmm.... keeps them from degenerating until they're ready to go forward into whatever's next: Sovngarde perhaps, or some other implementation of the Thu'um....

They were mystics. Mystics.... are.... um.... different.

Thanks sis! Oh, again, no worries - I just didn't know what the little green face one meant....

I guess - I thought a popcorn emote would be something like this:

Twelve - So, I expect we’ll see Var by tomorrow

I hope Valerica finishes up whatever it is she’s doing by this evening. I’m already tired of hanging around here - it’s fine up in the study, but still, nights out here on this damn cold vampire’s rock are just nasty. It snows all the time, everything’s damp and then frozen, the twins can go off to hunt and forage, but here I sit. And no, if I don’t climb up to the bridge before they go, then here I sit some more.

I put my mind to thinking about Sovngarde. Now, that was going to be a bigger issue than the Soul Cairn. Except for g’ma, the living simply are not allowed passage there. And of course, the reason g’ma was sent there was to do away with Alduin.

Now there’s a thought though. If the spirit Valerica needed to talk to knew something I could use, perhaps I wouldn’t actually have to try to get to Sovngarde Then again, if Alduin’s soul is there - ach: it’s there for a damn good reason - and plucking it out to trade it to the Ideal Masters for whatever we can do to fix the attachment of Durnehviir to the Cairn, well, that’s not going to go over well with anyone probably.

Even me. Especially me. Now, why didn’t I come to this brilliant conclusion before haring off on this wild mudcrab chase? Well, I knew why the wild mudcrab chase of course - for g’ma, who couldn’t, and for Arngeir and Durnehviir, who also couldn’t.

With that, I fell into a black temper. I wasn’t out of it by the time the twins were back, but I forbore to explain; let them think I miss Var (well, I do) or whatever.

So, they stayed the rope while I climbed up again. And how did Valerica come and go? Well, it was her home - for thousands of years - so presumably she knew ways that were easier. She didn’t seem like the sort to climb up ropes, though. More like the sort to turn into a cloud of bats....

Inside the study, I found not only Valerica but her daughter, Serana. Both were sitting on benches below Arngeir’s little nook. Hmm. Strange.

“Sorry I’m late. Master, the twins brought back more food for you.” I nodded at Valerica and Serana. “It’s been good of you to provide food. I hope that us taking some of that off of your shoulders is a help.”

Valerica nodded. “It is. It’s easy enough for folk to see what we are, so normal barter is - not really possible.” She did NOT detail where the food had been procured, and I found I really didn’t - care - to know. Probably Arngeir didn’t either!

“The - spirit - I spoke to about this.... well, he wasn’t particularly helpful. He - resented my - intrusion. And he wasn’t happy about discussing the World Eater’s soul and spirit, especially with a Daughter of Coldharbour. In fact - I felt less welcome than from Harkon when I saw him last....” She frowned.

“The spirit was - cagey. I - think - that yes, Alduin is there in spirit, and with soul attached. But I did not obtain a direct answer.”

“Well, thank you for the attempt. As for Sovngarde, it would be more difficult to go there than to the Soul Cairn, after all. And - since this morning - I’ve realized that, should what is left of Alduin be there in Sovngarde, there’s a reason for that. I mean, for allowing it.... and, that means that I shouldn’t” - I glanced at Arngeir - “we shouldn’t risk whatever the gods have in mind for what is left of him.

“So, it seems that I will have to think longer about what can be done to free Durnehviir from the Soul Cairn’s poison. Thank you for allowing Arngeir and myself to bother you about this.”

Valerica gave me an odd look. “I will consider further. Truthfully, it is a kind thing you think to do - even one such as I can see that. The Masters cheated the dragon. He did not deserve so long in their thrall. Since they lied by omission.... well, I will think on it. Come Serana.”

They went out the door which I thought led into the ruins. Serana cast one strange look back at me. I wondered what that was about.

“Tiercel. You are of course correct.”

I turned to Master Arngeir. “What do you mean?”

“That since there must be a good reason for keeping what is left of Alduin in Sovngarde, we would not have right on our side to subvert that reason.”

“All well and good. But there is right on our side to try to help Durnehviir is there not?”

“Aye. I believe it. We will have to reconsider how we go about this though.”

All too true.

Thanks Siblings! Tier's impulsive, always has been. And she's well aware she doesn't always think things through fully before doing those wild mudcrab chases....

I think it would be worth it, because Eirka's taking on a life of her own - and the Bloodhawks with her.

Interludes

Arngeir
: What is it about the Ravenwing women that so forces me to look at things from a viewpoint almost diametrically opposed to the life I’ve lived as one of Jurgen Windcaller’s disciples? I don’t mean that meanly. It’s just a wonderment....

Durnehviir: The Ravenwings are - a revelation. Verinne defeated me - the only time in all the ages I had been so. Her honor was so bright a thing that I could nearly not look at her full on. Now her granddaughter is a different sort of revelation: that she could look at why Alduin must be left where he is, for the greater good of Nirn. Again, her honor is the same sort of Shield of Light as her grandmother’s. It will be interesting to see what she thinks to do next, for a cursed dragon and an ancient Greybeard.

Vartain: One of these days, Tier will stop surprising me into gasping aloud. Probably about the time they’re putting me on my pyre.
