While I think a lot of us are ready for a break.. to play other games, to really get into out RP's or just because competition can be a bit of a stress grind...

was wondering if some would like some "set" challenges.. Like Rick and Adella's, but with a bit less in the way to do and more focus on a particular thing.. or something similar, but not so... tight in the rules. These would be longer items.. I have a few thing's that would work...

example.. Short... TG .. 0 bounty, 0 kills ( IN the quest line.. getting to an from is is different story).. Dead is dead, with a twist.. IF you get a bounty ( in the course of stealing or other "quest" related things) you have to start over, just like if you had died.
.. Your style..

example.. Long... All skills to 100 ( in your chosen style must have minimum of 5 skills max of 7).... must make sense for your character.. at least 2 quest-lines .. points are for completed quests

Example.. very long.. Explorer/ adventurer..eerererer... points for cleared dungeons/caves/ forts.. etc

Also some short competitions that might not suit everyone..
Companions.. All quest's where the PC is alone ( ie not if their is a forced follower) must be done as a werewolf.

and some that might..

Pick your gourd.. and other almost useless items.. ie.. get the most of a list of items in the shortest amount of time.

Or just all take a break.. and do a back to school round come.. errr August or September, which give's us all a chance to "do our own thing"....

Great ideas Areial. I am curently doing a long, slow dwemer scholar run with the current comp rules except for the time constraint. Also including mod dungeons, so it may be a couple months before I finish this one! :D

Keep the ideas coming so they can be indexed then we can collectively pick a card from the rolodex later. ;)

Actually that pretty much is.. why the question.. I know I have two RP's that I want to get into.. one will be pretty long, the other.. IDK.. the story will let me know on that one.

I will be playing by Comp rules for a bit even after.. cause I have to download all the mod's I need for both RP's and try to recreate the Asherea and Winter.. as I lost both presets... <shite happens> I should have put them in files outside the PC when I refreshed.. but didn't... over-site.

I know a few have said they had RP's they wished to do.

Hey sis - do you not have a separate drive for data? I don't save stuff like presets on my OS drive - all my stuff (steam, game folder, downloads) lives on a secondary 3tb drive (partitioned into separate virtual drives - D, E, F, G).

I even have save games stuffed onto E - using a mod to move the savegame folder elsewhere. This is all of course SLE - I don't bother with SSE any more. In fact, I think I might uninstall it.

Personally, I think I'll take a little break. I'm wanting to more with Al, and perhaps Tubasha simply because they're fun.I'm playing Al using basically competition rules, but keeping it comfortable.

Also this Monster Mod is a bit problematic. I ran into a Hunger yesterday and discovered that it's almost impossible for Al to hurt it at all. Same for Werebears, and suddenly half the critters are immune to shouts like Ice Form. So, I'm going to want to get a handle on dealing with those things.

Hunger is like old dead wood. You whack away at it with every weapon in your inventory and it kinda laughs at you while swiping you with its branch like talon'd arms. Whip out your trusty flame spells and keep it dancing and it will die fairly quickly. ;)

Well, that's good to know! Al tends to use lightning-based spells (because of course, she was focused on automatons). Now for the werebear...

She led the werebear into a fight with the Old Orc who got his good death almost immediately, then led the werebear to a Fire Giant, who finished him off, but then seemed to think roasting Al was a good idea... Now Al knows to travel with a Fire Giant in her pocket...

I like the ideas, too. I'm taking a break from Skyrim at present, playing FONV (which I hadn't played before.)

I think I'll probably take about a month or thereabouts, and then get back to Skyrim later in the summer.

But I'll continue to follow faithfully whatever is going on here. :)

I do... I found a "save" folder that has many of my old saves ( just the desk-top short cut was deleted).. I have yet to find the folder that my SKSE jslot saves were in.. but then again, I haven't been searching really hard, cause most of the mod's aren't there to load them anyway.. that file is gone.. I mean I know the name.. "Skyrim Mods" is kinda hard to miss..Funny thing is my "Skyrim SSE Mods" folder is still on the desktop and still has the mod's in it.. but not the SLE..

I pretty much think that anything I updated in the last month is gone... I found DAI, but Neverwinter Night's is gone..Tank's ( for Michael) is gone and I downloaded that 3 week's ago.. NWN 2 week's ago.. DAI last update is 2 months ago. Skyrim SLE was borked, but SSE was fine.. again haven't updated it in over a month.

I did the refresh and then updated my anti-virus and malware.. tightened my firewalls.. and.. surfing the web on my PC is a pain in the ass... but that's why I have the Chrome book..

I'm saving my pennies ( not really ) to take the PC to the doctors.. it's cutting the apron strings.. It hasn't even left the house and I'm having separation issues....lol...

Well.. IDK about good.. good reviews.. and they just opened a second store..friend bought a PC they built for him.. he loves it.. work's like a top.

It will be a few week's.. PC works.. and I want an appointment.. plus I DO have to save up for an upgrade on the graphic's card.. if it need's it, might not.. but if I have the money, I might as well.. and they said if the old one works, they will resell it on spec, so I get money out of that. I have the money for the diagnosis and general fix ( part's will cost of course).. but a new card.. $$$.. cause if I have to get one, I want the best that the rest of the hardware will work with..

I'll keep playing Skyrim and some FO4 all summer, but agree on a competition break.

I had some ideas that would probably be more suited to "mini game" stuff than competitions...more like finding the most teddy bears in FO4 or similar nonsense ;)

Gemologist: collect the most gems, gems would have points according to quality.

Miner: collect the most ore. Assign points according to rarity.

Booze hound: collect all the alcoholic beverages you can. Again can assign points,

Septim saver: the one with the most gold wins.

That sound's pretty good.. I'd add the Savior's Hide or Ring of Hircine..and allow the armor to be worn.. fit's a "hunter" type build.

OK.. I"ve been thinking on this the last several days.. and this would be a loooong run.. I got the idea from Adella's destinies, but those who wanted to play by those exact rules.. did.... this bloomed in my head.

TG, DBH, are "stealth" and you would use only stealth "type" skills...

CoW.. is a mage school.. so you use mage skills...

Companions are Warriors.. you use Warrior skills...

MQ, CW, DG, DB are very open to be what you want...

What this mean's is that you can't use Heavy Armor in the DBH or TG... No armor or physical weapons for the CoW..

Here's my Kick.. and you know I have one... Each quest-line must be done separately .. why do you ask? Well I will tell you...

Each quest-line MUST be done on a different difficulty level... You may not use the same "skill set" back to back..ie you can't do the TG and Dark Brotherhood back to back.. but you can do TG, then CoW then DBH..

Now that's not to say that you couldn't... 1h in TG ( dual wield daggers) and 1h (S & B ) for Dawnguard,, Light Armor for TG, Heavy for DG and then Light for CW..
To expand in this
Spoiler: click to toggle

With the MQ, TG, DBH ( Dark Brotherhood), CW, CoW, DG DB ( Dragonborn ) & Companions (I'm not including the Bards College) and Novice, Apprentice, Adept, Expert, Master & Legendary.. You have more Quest-lines than difficulties..and I DiD say that each one had to be done on a different difficulty..

So say this is the way you choose to run it...

Dawnguard... (light, S & B) Novice
TG...............( Light, Dual Wield) Apprentice
CoW............( cloth, magicka) Adept
MQ..............( Heavy, S & B ) Expert
DBH.............( light, dual ) Master
CW..............(Light, 2h) Legendary

Ok... so now we have run all the difficulties.. what next? You still have Companions & Dragonborn... Well here is where you can rack up the points... Stay at Legendary and get double the points per quest ( in the quest-line) or go down to Master.. then you can either pop back up to Legendary for the last quest-line ( at double the points) or go down to Expert...

Here's the thing about this.. it IS a strategy.. We all know Magicka ( mostly Destruction) start's sucking after a certain point.. and difficulty level.. So you have to plan.. and plan ahead.. cause one of the rules will be about training..

. ( I think something along the lines of 1 training * all 5 allowed per* per quest-line.. which mean's you can train up say 1h 8 times.. but only one time per quest-line. It's just to keep from spamming training to get the skill up)

The next thing is.. crafts.. you may use them to your heart's desire..only... you have to change them each time.. just like your skills... You can't use Alchemy back to back.. or Smithing..or Enchanting.. That's not to say that you can't gather the stuff.. or use potions...or use a soul gem to recharge.. just not "craft"..

It's not as complicated as all that.. the explanation is..

Oh... you don't have to do the Quest-lines in the order I put them.. that was a "for instance"

Cheers for the acknowledgement Trace, even if it provided only an initial inspiration. I have seen a few competition style plays now which took Adella's Trials as at least a starting point. It seems lots of people like the idea, but it's too severe and build limiting for them to take it on.

One guy on Beth.net even asked me to make a mage version....which I did put some thought into, but it needed much more research before I could put a useable rule set together. Back burner for now.

Part of the problem is that too much complexity puts people off. For the Trials, I had to tweak her rule wording carefully to ensure everything got covered without nit picking individual instances.....which would run on to pages!

For example....
A simple phrase like saying 'No Unique enchanted items' ensured I covered all Daedric, all Dwemer and all named equipments in one brief easy to remember rule. But it took me a while to zero down on that simple wording.

So the thing is....too many complicated rules will doubtless put some people off, even if it does make for an engaging play for those willing to take it all on board.

Good luck hon :)
