Yeah, I think we actually agree. I'm not blaming the technology. What I'm saying is that humans are quick to adapt to using new technology, but society is slow to adapt to the changes it brings. So we don't readily see that adopting a new tech can result in an undesirable social change (like distracted drivers or dependency on computers for simple calculations) until the change has already made an impact. In a way, I'm saying that every technological solution to a problem causes a new, unforeseen problem to arise. On the education thing, yes, teaching to the test is a big part of the problem. The biggest failure that comes from that is that Facts are the focus, and problem solving is ignored. One of the worst failures of our educational systems, I think, is that there is no concern about "life skills." Kids should learn how to make change, cook, manage finances, do basic household repairs, etc. It wouldn't take much extra class time, either, if these skills were combined with practical arithmetic, science, etc. |

AH.. ok yeah I think we do agree on much of the issues, cause the use common sense factor went out the door.. and not many think! |
