Sounds like plain ol' bad luck to me Lapuaboy. Sorry to hear it though...

Have any of you tried unarmed combat in FO4? I ask because, I was over by Taffington moving along the riverbank, when I was attacked by a bloodug. I hate trying to manually target those things, so I hit VATS and set up about four shots. What I hadn't considered is that I had just left Starlight a short time earlier, and I didn't have a weapon of any sort equipped. Holly just beat the poor thing to death with her bare hands...

So, then I got this pair of "Freezing Gloves". Boxing gloves that have a 20% chance to freeze oponents. Cool, eh? But... The chill effect only is initiated when you are blocking, not while you are punching. This is giving me a headache, eh? See, I don't really know how to block effectively.

Sure, you click your right mouse button, but you don't get to put up a block and hold it for a second or two, oh noes... She puts up her hand and blocks for maybe half a second, and her opponent (ghouls is what I've been practicing on) just waits until she drops the block and lambasts her one upside the head. Her block actually works maybe one time out of three, and that's not enough to survive a fight even with a low-level ghoul without having to run away and try to get healed up.

I even tried evening up the odds by crippling the ghoul's legs before the fight (hardly sporting, but I' m trying to learn, eh?) and still I'd move in, try to block, get my lights punched out, and then have to back away to heal up. Does anyone have any tips on how to fight and block using bare fists or boxing gloves? There isn't any way to use a block in VATS is there?

Soooooo,

I don't see any points scores being tallied by contestants!

Has the competative angle been sidelined?

I just kinda took it that whatever score I had with Holly was certain to be beaten, so I didn't bother adding it.

Lap, sorry to hear Kristy got Sheo'd! That is plain bad luck.

Neil, I've never even tried to block so I have no idea how those mechanics work.

Dhark hasn't done any scoring because he's in limbo at the moment not to mention his play through is extremely slow with regards to completing quest lines, etc. It will be some time before he even has the right special levels to then access those perks necessary to do some of the items that were listed as "points" achievable.

Example, he doesn't have the perks for setting up supply lines, crafting stores, doing some of the major decorating needed and so forth. Although he does have all 5 issues of Picket Fences. :D

I'll have to load him up here in a day or so and see where he goes next. Two of his BoS quests have him going to Far Harbor (didn't have that mod Kane posted prior to comp start). And Dhark isn't ready for Fah Hahbor. ;) I think he's fairly high level now, 54 or 55 can't really remember. But he needs to start upping some of his SPECIALs at this point.

WAIT! Dhark is level 54 or 55, and he's not ready for Far Harbor? I usually end up going there sometime between level 20 and 25. Sooner if I'm playing a real BoS character... :)

I keep wanting to restart Holly in the competition (not playing DiD is somehow boring all of a sudden), but I just can't bring myself to do Starlight again...

Well Dhark could go to Fah Hahbor, but he wants certain perks before he does (makes life easier there) and he can't get those with the applicable special sitting at 4. He's been perking skills that provide him sufficient fire power at his current level rather than raising SPECIALs. This particular play through is a bit tricky in that regard, especially since my goal is to get all SPECIALs to level 10 before picking up the SPECIAL book or any of the Bobbleheads.

Nice thing is I can let him rest at home or spend time at the bar in Bunker hill schmoosing a bit and when I'm ready fire up his game and continue on from where I left off. Having the Journal is nice because I can write a little synopsis of what he's just finished doing and what he's going to do next in case my memory neurons don't fire or I have some kind of senior dendrytic lapse. ;)

Okay well, that explains it... :)

BTW, I've posted a short little video (along with a note to, and regarding, Lapuaboy). It's a 59 second vid that you can find here.

Fah Habah is a hoot at higher levels. Especially if you get the Shipbreaker quest.

I only picked it up once, and it triggered out of the blue for me. It has something to do with Longfellow.

Red Death is a fun quest, too.

First Far Harbor trip was with a high level "pre DLC" existing character, so level mid to upper 80s and a Rifleman. Was "hunting" Shipbreaker in the usual Far Harbor rad fog, following the radio beacon ping (it's a quest mechanic). It was a Jaws flashback with a little twist to be "you're gunna need a bigger gun." I had awareness perk and the readout told the tale.
Spoiler: click to toggle
A combined effort of a VATS volley of maxed Guass rifle, running, a full VATS que of .308 Overseer, more running and either a Plasma or Missile Launcher finish. That was one of many FH experiences that scared, and scarred me ;)

Yep, I had the same experience. Plenty of backpedaling whilst I unloaded round after round into the damned thing.

Aight, I can't read this thread anymore too many spoilers. Please put info about quest under spoiler tags as I have never done Far Harbor other than to visit the docks just once.

No worries, I'll live with what I've learned and none of you knew I hadn't done much of anything in Fah Hahbor ;)

I looked around, saw the fog, I think I even helped fight off an attack, but that was so long ago my memory isn't clear. Like Skyrim I have hardly scratched the surface of FO4. Something about wanting that unknown, haven't done that yet, still waiting for me keeps me engaged with both games.

Oh let's face it! I also have severe restartitis! :teehee:

Yeah Bram I'm sorry too! No more FH leakage from me (that sounds really nasty!). I will say this about Far Harbor though

Neil,

Are you going to rejoin the quest for FO4 fame and fortune? I miss your tales of hair raising daring do :)

My DiD break turned out to be one night and Kristy is back to level 11 B-) I figured hell, lets give it another go.
If she makes it out of Corvega tonight I'll post some pics and "formally" re-introduce her.

I'm thinking of it very strongly... It's just so painful to trash all of that work on Starlight...

I've a question for you guys. Don't worry if the answer is unflattering to me, I just am curious, and the true answer would be helpful to me eh? So here it is.

Three days ago, I posted a video called "Holly Wood and the Revere Satellite Array Part One". So far, it has received only 2 views, one of which I think is me and the other is Areial. Usually I get five to 7 views. Not a big deal, but... My question is, Did the title sound uninteresting or did the thumbnail look boring, or were y'all just not interested, or did in fact nobody actually see that it existed?

I'm asking because I put it in the FO4 video area under a new thread called "Holly Wood's After the Competition Videos" (You can find the video here) if you're interested, but aside from a shameless plug I'm wondering if I need to do something to make videos more visible.

The issue comes down because the Competition thread where I'd been posting is open for viewing to anybody, member or guest who happens through here, while the video threads are "members only". The disadvantage of the Competition thread is :
1. If Holly's not IN the competition it's a bit misplaced
2. It opens me up for a lot of spam at Youtube. (Not unbearable, just a minor nuisance)

Thanks!

Like I said, a truthful answer is what's needed, eh?

Neil, I can't watch vids because I just don't have the bandwidth. Beyond that, I - um - just don't have any interest in the FOs. If I had the bandwidth, I'd watch anyway, because your vids are really cool....

So for me it doesn't matter where you put them, I can't watch them. As for spam at youtube - UGH.

And.... as a final observation - for me, I just don't find videos of others playing games particularly interesting. Even if (or maybe especially) it's not a game I'm actually playing. Now, don't take that as something specific to you, or Holly, or the FOs. Mostly, I just don't like videos period. This follows along with my dislike of movies and tv. (Yes, there are movies I enjoy. Very few and nothing "recent".)
