Ah. Thanks. Equates to whichever perk it is on the archery tree in Skyrim where time slows.... I never take that one - don't like it.... Might like it with stuff like nukes, but then - I'm not ever likely to play FO of any version again. |

Sere, VATS is Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System that is an aiming/shooting mechanic in FO4. In FO4 the player has the option to play it as a regular shooter using weapon sights to manually aim or use VATS. VATS slows time, and allows you to not only select the enemy to target but individual body parts. I like it as it reduces the "twitch shooting" factor and helps slow reacting folks like myself ;) Others feel it greatly reduces "realism" and immersion and do not use it much if at all. But wait, there's more! In VATS you have access to a lot more fun stuff that manual shooters can't use, like critical hits, better criticals, refilling of Action Points and other Perk dependant things. Also, VATS has a damage reduction feature that (depending on where you read it) reduces incoming damage by 90 or 95%. That is why I've said on many occasions I hit VATS and hoped for the best! Well, whatever the reduction it didn't save Kristy from a direct Fat Man nuke. Not the best description of VATS, but hope it helped a little :) Ninja'd by Bram...who had a much better and less convoluted answer! Edited by Lapuaboy, Aug 18 2017, 10:50 PM.

Well, thanks to both of you. I - get the feeling that FO4 is more a FPS than a RP game. Not that I'm interested in playing it (any more than I was the others that I actually own.... but played less than an hour each....) I just was wondering to what that acronym pertained. So, thanks a bunch - at least now when I read posts I'll have some clue! |

Sorry to hear about Kristy, Lapuaboy! Seemed like you had a pretty good run going there. About VATS, I'm one of those who doesn't generally use it a lot, but the reason has nothing to do with immersion or the lack thereof. It has more to do with the system itself and Action Points. In my case, I value long range combat and the speed to get out of trouble as fast as I got into it. So, yesterday, I took out a Supermutant (an easy target, not bragging here :) ) from far enough away that he was barely visible with the naked eye. In VATS there was no part of him that had better than about a 5% chance of hitting him, but I used my rifle scope and took his head off. You see, manual aiming is often much more accurate than VATS, and you can nail targets that are nearly impossible in VATS. So Sere, if you consider Action Points to be roughly equivalent to Stamina you'll have a good understanding of what I'm about to tell you now. When you use VATS, you use up Action Points. When you run as fast as you can, meaning "Sprint", you also use up Action Points (see where I'm going here?). So, if you've used up all of your Action Points in VATS, you can't run away from danger at a sprint, and have to settled for the quick jog that is normal running until, like Stamina, your Action Points regenerate. The benefit where I use VATS most often is with targets that are very hard to hit manually... small enemies that move very quickly, like Radroaches and flying Stingwings. Sometimes I'll use VATS when I don't want to kill outright, so I use the system to target legs to cripple the enemy. The point of that would be when in a situation like with some robots where you are fighting many opponents at once, and the second you kill one, a new one is spawned immediately. So, cripple two or three or four of the big dangerous ones, and then you can take a little more time to deal with the others and with the spawning robots who take their place. Probably clear as mud, eh? :) |

VATS has been in all of the Fallout games, all the way back to the turn-based Fallout 1. In fact, it's a carry-over of turn-based combat into the real-time Bethesda style games. It's definitely a roleplay-based mechanic. VATS works like any turn-based combat system, where you have a limited number of "Action Points" that you can assign to your turn. You can pre-order a series of targeted shots or blows, which are then attempted when you hit the "Accept" key. The success or failure of the actions are determined by random number, as in most traditional RPGs. |

Eh, I got it. But since in Skyrim, I use a mod (Nock to Tip) which increases the range, visual targeting, and takedown - well, I'm covered. And since I don't add in mods which amp up the numbers or abilities of mobs.... well, works for me. |

I find that the Realistic Headshots mod is a perfect solution to stubborn NPC's. I have no qualms about using it either, because if you ask me - a .308 to the head should always kills someone. Not just make them blink and look around for you. |

Sah Valentine  Fantastic honey. Loved the score...sounded like Caro Emerald. I don't normally sit through vids over 15 mins....especially in Fallout. But yours was worth every minute, good shooting, great story. Look forward to the next installment. Love you :hugs: |

Nothing great and glorious to report for Dhark. He has been in a rinse repeat mode with the factions with regards to radiant quests in order to level up. Currently he is level 77 and on the brink of hitting level 78. His Intelligence and strength were the first to get boosted up higher so he could make some purty armorz. ;) Posted Image Starting the Landscaping/Beautification of Sanctuary Posted Image Edited by Brambleberry, Aug 25 2017, 09:34 AM.

Bada boom...BIG Bada BOOM! Did you know that whasisname, the producer of "The Fifth Element" actually created a working language just for that movie? Also, Milla was the only one who had to actually learn to speak that language? Which means, when she was rambling on in that alien tongue, she was actually speaking rehearsed lines rather than gibberish? That means that she not only is the only person on earth who speaks fluently in that particular 'dead" language, the language itself was never really born in the first place... Born dead, eh? :) |
