What set off the gasoline on the floor' was that a stray bullet from a turret? It may just be that when the player character takes damage regardless of turret or not it can cause the bug. Either way I'm glad she survived cause that is totally not fair game play when the RNG monster mucks with the game mechanics.

It definitely was not from a turret. Holly initiated combat by killing Jared with her first shot. Her second shots took out a spotlight, then a Raider on the floor under where the spotlight had been. Her next shot took out the forward turret without it ever firing a shot, and after that the second and final turret went also without firing a shot.

After that, she'd gone into Jared's room, used his terminal, noted arriving Raiders and went back downstairs to deal with them. That's when the fit hit the shan... and my short video began.

Makes sense then that it isn't turret dependent, but just a damage/heal bug in that area. I've never had it happen so I wonder if it is more prone to happen on Survival Mode? Not something I'd want to test out extensively, but Survival mode "activates" all manner of things that are not in the other modes. Examples are different items like thistle, various flowers, etc. can only be used for chemistry if one is in Survival Mode. And toothpaste becomes essential early on for antibiotic recipes. At least that's what I remember from Survival Mode when I tried it out when it was in beta.

Survival does create different things, but, while he didn't say, I don't believe Poncho was on Survival when it happened to him.

Holly doesn't have the intel to make antibiotics, so it's been a while since I made any. I carry what antibiotics I find and usually try to visit a doc before using them so I don't run out. Some Survival diseases are really nasty, but I don't know of any of them that cause a constant/steady health drain. The worst I know of is an infection that does about 20 health damage every two or three minutes until it's cured.

I got the dreaded full video uploaded, and posted it in the competition video thread. Here's a link.

I do hope someone will watch it, because I think it provides a fair illustration of a "minimalist" stealth character making things happen at level 17. (Shameless plug there :) )

For anyone interested in the "What's killing Holly Wood" question, I think I've solved it. I also believe I can logically at least prove that the Wiki is wrong on ALL counts... How about that, eh? :)

Early this morning, I happened to be in my inventory and I noticed something. All of the effects happening to Holly ceased when she used Med-X and a nuka-Cola Quantum, right? Well I always just think of Med-X as damage resistance, but I noticed that it also has a massive resist poison effect. Yep, 250 points worth.

Based on the three facts:
A. The effects stopped when Holly used Med-X
B. Med-X is a great poison antidote
C. The effects Holly experienced were identical to those of poison, including blurred vision.

I believe that I can say with great certainty that Holly was actually poisoned. Further, since it has happened to others in the same spot when a fire was started, I believe that the devs (or dev who set up that part of that area) intended for a toxic or poison gas to be released in that area when the fuel was ignited. Actually, that is not an unrealistic expectation, is it?

So, it's NOT a bug, but a poison "trap" intentionally placed. The cure is not to go outside the building, but to take a poison cure like Med-X along with healing medication like that Nuka-Cola Quantum Holly drank. I think that those who went out side the building to get a reload simply managed to last until the poison wore off, and leaving had nothing at all to do with their survival.

What do you think, eh? Has I got a point? BTW, kudos to Areial whose first guess was a poison gas...

Damn Neil you have some detective skills, and are way more observant than I am! I'll watch the video later at home, my old work computer doesn't like videos much.

I've shaken off some rust, put on my big boy pants and Darcy her big girl fatigues and have gotten more adventurous. Level 22 now, worked the Malden area last night including the Medford Hospital, Malden Center and Vault 75. I decided to finish the night off by visiting my old nemesis Outpost Zim and Boomer. Well, my "plan" was to sneak close, get the drop on Boomer and VATS crit headshot his ass before he knew anything was up. Hey, it was late, I was tired, and it sounded good at the time. Neil (and others I am sure) are probably smiling at this notion of getting the drop on Boomer up close, as he has to be the fastest Fat Man trigger happy SOB around. By the time I had hit VATS, qued up 3 headshots and a couple backup body shots and fired my first crit the nuke was outbound. I guess VATS and the damage reduction saved me...the nuke nuked, I didn't ragdoll, and another headshot turned Boomer into an ash pile. I was happy to have taken Zim, but it was a goat rope.

On the Preston front, I still have Somerville active, he wants the Castle of course, and just assigned Nordhagen. Hmmm. I still have Danse to get back to, and the RR to visit. Decisions, decisions.

Wow! Surviving a mini-nuke is something to crow about! I like to take Boomer out with a head shot too, but usually from that section of highway that runs above the Outpost.

Preston.... Hmmm. Holly is having some kind of issues with the guy. After she finished Corvega she reported success to the settlers, and then went to talk to Preston. for the first time in history, not only did he have no mission to offer, he wouldn't even talk to her.

She said "You know that settlement you sent me to? They've decided to join the minutemen!" He gave her his "That's great" spiel, then turned and walked away... Holly doesn't chase guys down unless she plans on killing them, so she turned and went back down to Starlight. Doesn't mean she's NOT planning on killing Garvey of course... ;)

A little update here for Holly Wood.

She is now level 22, on the cusp of 23. While she's been very busy, it seems like she hasn't really done a lot. She's cleared Corvega, of course... as well as BADTFL, Waldon's Pond, the exterior area of Malden, Taffington Boathouse and the adjacent sewer, Sunshine Trading, Hangman's Alley, College Square Station, and a few others that I can't remember right off hand.

Recently, she made a terrible mistake. She took the hardened .38 autorifle she loved and made it into a .45, without realizing that it would no longer be an automatic rifle. It is far less effective than the .38 version was, even though she has three perks in Rifleman and three perks in Commando.

She built a new .45 full-auto Combat Rifle that has a double limb damage legendary perk on it. More about that in a minute. She has also made great changes in her attire and armor, so that her ball cap now has a +1 to Chr and +1 to Int as well as a plus 2 to both ballistic and energy damage resistance. No more having to wear that stupid newsboy cap for trading.

Almost all of her armor has legendary pluses now, but she has no armor for her left leg. Holly DID have armor for her left leg, but it seems to have disappeared. I suspect I might have accidentally sold it...

At the moment, Holly is experiencing a high degree of emotional trauma. Upon receiving a notification to defend Taffington Boathouse, she literally ran all the way from Starlight to Taffington. Unfortunately, she was slowed by an encounter with a supermutant and some mirelurks near covenant.

Arriving at Taffington, she waded into a scene from hell. A heavy battle was well underway, Taffington's five machine gun Turrets were firing unceasingly, and the four brave but way outmatched settlers were fighting bravely. Five Supermutants with two or three hounds were just too much... Especially with one Supermutant using a mini-gun, and another using a missile launcher. That left two mutants with automatic weapons and one with a super sledge.

The settlers were not poorly armed or armored, they just were no match for that many well-armed Supermutants.

Holly never actually arrived in Taffington during the battle.

From a distance up the road, she began firing with that newly built combat rifle, and was beginning to wreak havoc among the Supermutants when they killed the last of the settlers and turned their full attention to Holly. The value of that combat rifle was immediately apparent as the Supermutant armed with the supersledge fell on his face. Not dead, just not able to stand. A second mutant suffered the same fate, but then the mini-gun found Holly's position, followed almost at once by the missile launcher.

Swarms of hissing bullets screamed past her on all sides, punctuated by the roar of a missile just over head, and Holly decided to change to hit and run tactics. the primary focus of that strategy was of course... RUN!
The three mutants and theirhounds chased her halfway to covenant, but she turned, managing to kill two hounds and crippled the missile lauunching mutant.

At that point the mini-gun forced her to dive into the lake, where she used evasive maneuvers to eventually arrive at the far bank still essentially unmarked by enemy fire. That's where the tide turned.

Holly found a stump of the perfect height to give her cover, and swapped weapons to her Heavy .308 sniper rifle. The mutant with the mini-gun had only a vague idea of Holly's location, so while 5mm rounds whizzed by harmlessly on all sides, she took all of the remaining Supermutants down in just a few moments.

As she crossed back to the Taffington side of the lake, Holly stopped only to make certain that all of the supermutants were dead, and collect their weapons and ammo. Hoping against hope, she arrived back at the boathouse, and one by one, she found the bodies of all four of her settlers.

With a heavy heart, she set about repairing the really minimal damage done to the Boathouse resources and shortly, all was in order. Now, it should be mentioned that about that time, Holly's sadness turned to anger, and perhaps it would not be a good thing from here on out to have an encounter with Holly if you are a Supermutant...

Roxie has met her maker in the Super Duper Mart (SDM) of Lexington. Bram's nemesis - the RNG monster - reared it's ugly head. The SDM is usually pretty easy to handle if you move through it quietly. This time, however, there were two legendary ghoul roamers. I managed to take out the legs of the first one with the oil slick in the back of the store. The second one got the jump on me, along with three other ghouls.

I had intended Roxie to be my next story, so I'll be dropping out and reloading. :)

RNG Monster is the one that hides behind you all the time waiting for that special moment so it can have a laugh at your demise! We does not like the RNG Monster and would like to be able to trap it and give it to Adella for some much needed tor... um amusement, THAT's IT!

Sorry to hear it Kane.

Does it seem to you that we've kinda been plagued with extra-tough encounters for this competition? I mean, did you read my little tale of the Supermutant assault on my Taffington? I don't think I've ever had quite so much firepower brought to bear against such a small settlement before that I can remember... ...and of course the Corvega thing, and my first Holly Wood getting offed by a Bloatfly because she couldn't outrun a tree...

Here's a short little light-hearted kinda thing (less than two minutes and delivered tongue-in-cheek)... It's actually a response to something Lapuaboy said regarding Supermutant suiciders and Mini-Nukes the other day.

Lapuaboy, this one's for you...

Indeed! Super Mutant attacks on settlements always suck - even on easy. I've had three muties armed with missile launchers attack more times than I can count.
