Neil,

Sorry about Holly :( I did watch the video and have to give you props for your play style AND your patience! That gamma gun really gave Holly a scare, huh?

I don't know if it gave Holly a scare or not, but I jumped about a foot... :)

Of course in just a couple of seconds, she was nearly dead, eh?

After further infection reflection, I've decided I'll restart with Holly Wood Tres. I've also decided that I will start anew on Starlight. However...

Starlight was so nearly done that I figure what the heck, and I'll show y'all where I was at and see what you think. I may do some things differently this time around though, because of course I learned a bit during the process the first time around.

I also figure that since the settlement building is part of this competition, I'll post the video it here in this thread for everybody's consideration. Thus without a further hairdo, I give you:

Along with the warning that there may be a sequel starring Harry's son Frod, and Murky Handmil and featuring a CGI of Princess Ledja.

Her often out-of-breath from running fit so very well. I don't think I've ever let my rads get that high on a character. Holly is definitely good at Thriller mode! :D

I haven't shared the funny part with you guys about that yet. You see, she had just been on her way back to Hangman's from Diamond City. Yep, she had gone to see the doctor there to get her radiation sickness cured... and he had cured her only a short time before that encounter.

I don't know who all is playing survival, but in survival it takes a really good long time to cure radiation with Radaway, and it has an effect of leaving you prone to disease for a few days by weakening your immune system.

Oh yes, I remember the Radaway side effect. I think that was one of the reasons they instituted the ability to build those walk through Rad Removal devices at settlements, but that only works if you're perking in that direction.

Survival does give one a reason to reason on what to do. That is, do I take the radaway and risk getting a disease (I don't have any antibiotics, but a quick visit to the doc will fix that). Oh, lol, took the radaway got a disease I'm over encumbered now and can't get to the doc in time without stopping to eat and prop myself up any way I can.

It was those kinds of silly scenarios that I just gave up Survival mode. The concept is there, but as usual Beth's implementation left a lot to be desired; at least for me. And I really don't want to have to add a bunch of mods to "fix it".

Because Sanctuary is so far from a doc, I always set up one of those walk-throughs there. I don't need anything particular to build it, other than a boatload of fiber-optics. On the other hand, I don't actually have a bunch of mods to keep survival from being so stupid, just one (Survival Options)... and I'm thinking of taking the teeth out of those diseases. I haven't really altered it, but the stupidity of Beth is becoming too much to bear.

For the longest time, Holly would get a disease every three days just like clockwork with no apparent reasons. One day she went to the doctor, went home and slept in her own bed, woke up with a disease the next day. That's stupid, eh? Imagine if she ever actually used the radaway she carries around...

Just watched your tour of Starlight. Very nice indeed. The guy at the end though with invisible legs, I kept thinking, "that's what you get for just walking through the pond, idiot!". :D

I haven't had much bad luck with diseases. I usually have at least three antibiotics on me, and only ran out once.

Heh, that's what happens when guys insist on wearing a skirt. Sometimes it's far worse though, and only their heads are visible.

What I hate about it is when you get the infection that does damage every minute or two within a day or so of arriving in Sanctuary, and there are no antibiotics in Sanctuary or Red Rocket. It forces you to go to Diamond City long before you're ready. That also tends to screw up Concord and sometimes the Cambridge Police Station as well.

Must just be bad luck, neiler. I think by the time I headed for Tenpines and Corvega, I had found 4-5 antibiotics. All without leaving the Sanctuary/Concord area.

On a different not, I'm having a lot of fun with Roxie. I forced myself to leave my comfort zone with her build, and it's been interesting! I typically always have long range weapons and the Rifleman perk - but this time, I'm only perking Commando and Gunslinger. I have to really be careful in open areas!

Yeah, like disease itself, finding antibiotics is just random luck. Holly and Murphy have this relationship, you see... :)

I once stepped outside my zone and went with a combat shotgun (as soon as one was available) and that was different.

Boy, I haven't used a shotgun in a long time. Mayhaps next time, I will use a sniper rifle and shotgun only. I'm a fan of the Hunting Shotgun mod. I love that pump action.

Neil,

Watched the Starlight tour and it highlights what is so neat about these forums. Reading and seeing from other people's perspective is not only fun but educational and "experience expanding." I build bunker like fortresses, you create something that has an open, casual and almost resort feel. I know you put a lot of thought into the design, so don't take "casual" in a negative way...how about "comfortably livable" instead. It's a compliment :) Hell I've never used the planters either. My plants are planted where there's dirt, yours are an architectural element. Bottom line I'm borrowing your ideas to improve my own settlements.. Dogmeat will be impressed I'm sure

Yup. Depends on age, squatting. Can't do that any more. And while I have definitely appreciated downed trees and various configurations of same over the years - I did NOT appreciate the ants.

Seriously, the best gift the gods ever gave me was the first time we were elk hunting about 1996. At that point we had a really nice truck (the '95 Ford F250 Diesel, basically newr) but no camp setup. So we got a motel in Richfield, and headed out onto the Salina ranges. We spent about 16 hours out there on dirt tracks, using sketch-maps given us by the guys at the dealership where we'd bought the truck.

By the time we'd been out there (me driving - he had the elk tag) for - uh.... maybe fourteen hours.... well... I was REALLY in pain. Even that long ago, man, it caused me major issues to squat. So yeah, I just tried to tough it out.

About the time "toughing it out" was ready to equal "peeing my pants" - OMG - there was a Forest Service potty shack near a lake.

Man, I was out of the truck so fast I bet husband had no idea where I went. Good thing I remembered to throw it in neutral and set the brake.....
