[Prologue: The Twin-Meld] No, of course we don’t read each others’ minds. But we do - understand - each other, without having to discuss things to death verbally. None of the family has ever been able to figure out how we - manage - without words. It is what it is - if you’re part of a multiple birth, you do understand. Those who aren’t, can’t. And how we know that is also something we can’t explain - since we’re the only set of twins we know! We know of triplets in Whiterun, but beyond knowing they live there, we’ve not met them nor discussed this sort of thing. Oddly enough, multiple births are fairly rare in Skyrim it seems, unlike some of the other provinces. So we’re not going to talk about leaving the family at the shrine. We’re both too raw on it right now. What, you thought we’d be off blithely to possible death or dismemberment with light hearts, and laughing? Well, no. This is serious. We know only too well that we can die doing whatever it is we’re supposed to be doing - in the Soul Cairn or wherever else we have to go. Then again.... we can die riding an unbroken stud, or sailing the Mistress to Solstheim.... Life is not - certain - in Skyrim, after all. For now, we’re heading back to Valerica’s - um - castle. Far as we’re concerned, it’s a sewer crossed on a charnal house - but home is where the heart is. Or something like that. Edited by Serethil, Aug 1 2017, 06:24 PM.

Well, this came through as "we" - but I'm pretty sure they'll be separate some. I've got different colors for Ter and Vaer - which if you're creative enough can combine to make the "twin-meld" color.... Thanks Sis! |

I am certain that whatever the Ideal Masters require will have a pretty hefty price attached. I hope they are up to and skilled enough for the challenges ahead. :pop: |

Thanks Lappy and sis! Yeah, they may be young and relatively untried.... but hey - they're Tier's and Var's twins. I'm pretty sure they'll be able to handle - whatever. |

Chapter 1: Terlinna “Vaer, I don’t know how we’re going to go through the portal! If I did I’d have said something already.” “I know, sis. Thing is, I don’t think we’ll have to go into the Soul Cairn - I think we can just ‘call through’ the portal, because the Masters know we’re on the way.” “Well, we assume they know. I guess we’ll find out. Um. Do we have to tell Valerica we’re using her sanctum again?” “If she wants to use her own lab, she’ll know we’re there. So I think it only right that we go in the front door so to speak, and let her know what we’re trying to do.” Of course, he was right. She just gives me the twitches. But yes, we could not sneak in like thieves in the dark - even though ma did so! Well, more or less - she knew Arngeir was there - and so did Serana and Valerica. No one was there now, except a five thousand year old vampire. I wonder - sometimes I think about how nice it would be to not get old, to live so long you watch the world grow aged around you. But then, I think about Valerica and Serana, where the only thing Valerica could think to do (after entombing her daughter with an Elder Scroll as a bedfellow) was to imprison herself inside the Soul Cairn where she had access only to basic alchemy ingredients, a few of her books, and her own Elder Scroll, her jailer a dragon cursed to belong to the Cairn forever. And all of this to obviate her husband’s fixation on killing one or the other of them to force a fake prophecy to come true! Well, part of the prophecy wasn’t fake - surely, with the blood of his wife or daughter, Harkon could have “put out the sun” - though Serana told ma that it only worked for a day to make the daylight hours dark, and had to be done again the next sunrise. So what would Harkon have done for blood after he leeched all from the two Daughters of Coldharbour that were handy? Good question. One with, thankfully, no answer. At that point in my ruminations, we reached the Castle Volkihar door, and Vaer reached up to knock. |

Yep. They're not cowards, these guys. Of course, the former blood-soaked den of vampires feeding on cattle and strewing body parts about is long gone to dry bones and dust - the only one remaining is Valerica. Whether she bites their heads off because she's pissed at Tier.... well, that's about all they're thinking of at this point. Thanks for reading, sis and neil! |

Chapter 2: Vaerlon I fisted my hand and knocked on the huge door of the Castle. Then we waited. And waited. And waited even longer. I was beginning to wonder if Valerica was away.... Finally the door opened inward. Valerica stood framed in light - red of course - from the hall inside. Sighing, she looked us over. “I suppose you’re here to plant yourselves at my portal.” “I know it’s an imposition. But yes, we do need to sit as close to the Cairn-end of the steps as possible; we hope to talk to the Ideal Masters, the way Arngeir the Greybeard and my mother did.” “Well, there’s still no access to my study from here. So you’ll either have to climb up the way Tiercel did, or you’ll have to follow through the ruins-paths the way Serana and your grandmother did.” Ter stepped up next to me. “Valerica, we could help you by reopening the normal access to your lab.” I grabbed my composure before sputtering something inane, and offered “Aye. We could. That would be fair repayment for your forbearance, having so many people in your way.” She looked us over as if we might be specimens of some never-before-seen species of insect. But then, her gaze fell and a pensive look overtook her face. Eventually, she said “Well, that’s an offer I believe I’ll accept. I really dislike turning into an entire colony of bats just to get on with my research. Let me show you where Harkon - closed off the halls and rooms. It may take some time - but you’re both young and healthy. If - you find you need extra hands....” I grinned. “I think we’ll manage without. Probably bad enough you have to put up with us.” Valerica slanted me an odd glance. “Your mother - she does know you are here?” Ter grumbled a bit, but answered after a moment “Aye, she does. She’s not happy about it, but she’s let us go this way, as it’s our job to do.” “Ah. Well, you need fear nothing from me. I - find there’s no need to - feed, or otherwise accost living beings any more.” “Aye. We know about your synthesized blood. That’s a feat that most alchemists would think impossible.” We were walking just behind her as she led into a warren of halls, rooms, and stairways. “When you have five thousand years to study, nothing is impossible.” I supposed that was true, mostly. Just then, we arrived at a blockaded door. “Beyond the door, once the bars and chains are removed, you will see that Harkon simply pulled down entire walls to close off access.” “Well, then. Will you be - disturbed - if we set up a sort of camp here? We will need to use the fireplace to cook, and set up bedrolls....” “Oh, do as you wish. Until you find if you can make a way through here, I’ll just - become that cloud of bats - in order to continue my studies.” I bowed as she went back the way we’d come. Ter sniped, “At least she didn’t turn into the cloud of bats just to get out of here!” We turned to setting up a sketch-camp. Tomorrow, we’d have to hunt, and haul water. |

Ayup. They do try to keep it under normal wraps - but actually, they're pretty irreverent. And not at all above tweaking elders on - vanity. And other things. |

I wonder if they've considered... Harkon pulled entire castle walls down to block the way, it could easily take two guys a couple of years to clear a simple path through it... depending on how far away it is, of course. :) I like it though... :thumb: |
