I thought I was perhaps going to have twins once, but the doc said it was more likely that I was just putting on weight... My mother thought perhaps I WAS twins, but one of me was always hiding, and in any case, she couldn't figure out which one of us was the evil one... We just laughed and kept our secrets to ourselves.

:thumb: on the story, eh? :)

Of course, four generations back, twins married twins - on all four sides of the family (leaving out the "married-ins") - and the generation before that, triplets married triplets. In my parents' generation, my dad married my mother, his older brother married her younger sister, and much later his oldest brother married her youngest sister.
My former boss was in a situation like this. He married his wife, and his sister married his wife's brother. Always weirded me out a little.

Chapter 11: The Twins

Ma gazed at the three of us. “Well. That’s - an interesting tale. Yes Ter, I got your letter - HOW did you find a courier out there anyway? No, you can tell me later - but only this morning, and now here you are. So. Thirty vampire cures. And Serana, how do you plan to stay alive since you’re no longer a vampire yourself?”

And that’s where things just got - really - strange.

Serana did - something. And suddenly, she was - a vampire. And one of the Lord versions to boot. We both recoiled, but ma - she just stood there.

“Ah. But will real vampires see past the illusion?”

“I think not, Tiercel. I - tried it various times on my way back to the Castle. None of the - lesser (as Valerica would say) breeds had any idea I was not what was shown to them.”

“How did you come to - be able to use that form without the concomitant infection?”

“I.... asked the Divines for it.” She looked straight into ma’s eyes. So she wasn’t lying.

“Eh. In that case, yes. It’s a good thing you do. And my twins will - accept that it’s a good thing. Eventually.”

Serana turned an ironic gaze to us. “It doesn’t matter - I can say with perfect truth that if they choose to do this without me, life will become very.... difficult.... indeed.”

We communed silently. Well, then. Fine.

“So, this can only be helpful. Thank you Serana.” Vaer, always the diplomat. More or less. Ter just nodded.

Melki walked in at that point, and ma sent us off to the kitchen with a nod of her head. That was fine - we were hungry! It didn’t occur to either of us to wonder what went on after we left.

Just catching up on my reading, starting with the twins. Love getting to know Vaer and Ter better; their "twin-ness" and their differences. Serana is a wildcard of sorts, and on a mission to "help" vampirekind...to die. We'll see how many vamps are seeking that! Great read :thanks: :hugs:

Thanks Lappy! Yeah, I really wanted to do Serana in her own voice - but she insists on "helping" here. *shrug*

Chapter 12: Terlinna

I’m so not thrilled with having Serana along, but since she seems to have a hideout dagger of a sort - that Lord illusion or whatever it really is - I hope that at least this won’t take us forever. Thirty cured vampires - and why do the Masters want that done I wonder? Probably just to keep us out of their hair.

If they’d just been honest with Durnehviir to begin with.... but they weren’t. Or if they’d just helped him find a way to mitigate his inability to leave the Cairn after so many millennia when Valerica returned to the Castle... but they didn’t. What I’d really like to do after we’ve finished curing vampires is fix the Ideal Masters. I’ll have to think on that one while we ride Skyrim finding vampires.

We spent a couple of days packing what we might need for a foray into the wilds, and the next morning loaded it on a pack-horse instead of trying to divide it among our three mounts. Da and ma watched and waved as we headed out into the swamps to the north. Melki had opened the gate for us, then stood watching until we turned the corner to head toward Movarth’s Lair. Too bad all the vampires were long gone from there in these latter days - at one time we might have found ten or so there for Serana to frighten into taking the cure.

For after further thought, I found that the most likely scenario: she’d trick herself out like a Lord, and browbeat the “lower classes” of vampiredom into accepting something they really might not have any wish for.

In that I gave her far too little credit. But the truth didn’t come out right away, because of course it took a while to find a vampire....

Hopes they can come up with a way to subdue the vamps, before they can administer the cure.

Chapter 13: Vaerlon

So here’s this little fledgling vampire. She was out just after dawn oddly enough, and we caught her up near Ustengrav. She cowered at first, but then....

Serana pulled her Lord trick. And the fledgling not only cowered even more, but gasped out “Whatever you wish, Lord, I will do!” Strange.

Serana, floating a foot or so in the air - and really, the Lord form is pretty repellent - hissed “We have a cure for you. You will have a choice once you have taken the cure: become reinfected and go back to hiding in shadows, drinking the blood of thinking beings; return fully to the Light of Day, and be re-admitted to the company of full humans; or - make your way to Castle Volkihar, talk to Valerica, and she will show you how to synthesize blood, so you may retain your ways, but no longer have to depend on cattle.

“Choose now. This offer has a time limit - should you take too long to choose, I will simply effect the cure.”

The fledgling’s eyes bugged out - “C-C-Castle.... Oh. So. You’re one of them. And yet you offer options. Interesting.

“Well, then. I’ll take your cure. And after - I’ll think about those options.”

We sent her on her way, one down, way too many to go. I was somewhat surprised about the options Serana had offered, but wasn’t about to argue. We were all whole, after meeting with a vampire.... You couldn’t complain about that.

Well - you could. I wasn’t about to.

Interlude: Serana

Ugh. That was just.... horrible. That fledgling all but slobbered over my feet - all because I have this.... guise.... and can use it at will. And then she - called me “one of them” as if I chose what had happened to me.

All right - to be fair. She could have no way of knowing that I was - a captive to my parents’ machinations. Still - I have given people - Verinne, Tiercel - the benefit of the doubt.... Well, that’s neither here nor there at this point.

The transformation worked on her. But then she went all sly - which leaves me wondering. Which option will she actually choose? We don’t have time to wait around to see. Oh, I suppose we do really - but I doubt the twins are interested enough to do so!
