Five: A moon I’ve been living in this ancient crypt-tunnel It’s actually a - passage - under the Jeralls back into Skyrim, though the Skyrim end is blocked by rockfalls which I consider all to the good. I think I may have been meant to find it somehow; I spent several days eavesdropping in Bruma at twilight when it was not so obvious what I am, and eventually heard a guard talking to his captain about the Serpent’s Trail - that an adventurer group from Hammerfell had cleared out the brigand band which the Bruma guards hadn’t been able to deal with. The captain obligingly detailed the guard to go to Pale Pass and inform the military there, and direct their officers there or show them on a map. So I waited the night in the stable outside the gate, and in the early hours before dawn, headed back up the road toward the Pass. I made the fort just after dawn, climbed a tumbled tower, settled into a shadowed archway, and waited. The guard arrived about mid-morning, had a chat with the officer in charge, pointed out directions and made a mark on the officer’s map. From the direction he’d pointed, I had a good idea where to start looking. I removed myself from the archway just before full dark, and headed toward the area where the guard had pointed. I had to dodge a huge giant or something - not quite the same as Skyrim’s; it was chewing on parts of one of the soldiers, so I had to assume far less civilized than giants in Skyrim - which aren’t themselves all too civilized! By middle-night, I’d found the entrance to the Serpent’s Trail. I spent the rest of the night exploring the twists and turns, discovered that the brigand band had made quite a nice living area within, and that there would be places where I could go to ground in case of soldiers, guards, or more bandits arriving. And I discovered the rockfalls that closed off the Skyrim end. It seemed a perfect place to live while trying to hunt down someone who might know of a cure. They’d even left an alchemy lab. This was good - because I was going to have to start combing the area for ingredients that were more like the ones in Skyrim - otherwise I was going to be in trouble. And for BannDar, there was an actual stable area - and they’d left some decent hay! I was very thankful for that - and the water all around. But of course I’d have to make sure the poor horse got out into the light fairly frequently - he’d sicken otherwise. |

I really enjoyed Pale Pass when I played Oblivion. I always thought Beth could have done so much more with it... but that's the usual story of Beth, eh? :( |

Yep, pretty much. Beyond Skyrim: Bruma is VERY good (and I'll be using it in Serana's tale) though it's not as long as I'd have liked considering the download size. It's a lot of fun however. |

Nice! It took me a second for Pale Pass to sink in...I've been there once so far in my fledgling Ob play and was thoroughly scared the whole time, not knowing what was around the next bend. Looking forward to learning more of Serana's journey :) |

Six: Eavesdropping can be a very profitable exercise Not only is it responsible for my home away from home, it’s also helpful for trying to track down Skyrim-similar herbs; and the rumor of a Wisewitch who knew - oh, many things others had long forgotten. There was a wood-elf herbalist in the market-square in Bruma. I was able to settle on the wall above her - the city is laid out in terraces, climbing a hill upward - and listen to her discussions with various people. By the time that evening was done, I had some ideas about Cyrodiilic herbs which had similar properties to the Skyrim ones I needed. A few nights later, I sat a bit farther down the upper terrace, above the clothier’s stall. He had a long chat with one of the townsfolk - about the woman’s mother, who was involved in wisdoms outside the norm: those encompassing herblore, cantrips, minor spellcraft, and disease cures. Of course, it would take me much more time to find the woman.... |

Thanks neil! I have to say - this is really taxing. I - have a hard time thinking about how someone undead would go about - becoming - no longer undead. If it doesn't make any sense at some point, you could poke me? |

Sure... but I wouldn't be the best one in that category. My favorite character in Morrowind became a vampire, and for some reason I was completely unable to get him the cure. Even though it was supposedly readily available. :bang: |

Huh. Well.... guess he was happy. Sometimes, the character runs the show. As I know only too well. |

Seven: Stalking or sweet-talking I was fairly sure that just walking up to the woman whose conversation with the clothier I’d overheard would probably get me killed.; most day-dwellers would - not - be happy about a night-stalker accosting them to ask about a relative. As a last resort, well - I’d consider it. But I thought perhaps just wandering the wilds around Bruma might be of more immediate value. By doing so, I might simply happen across the Wisewitch - and I would also use the opportunity to gather the local herbs which I hoped to be able to use for the false-blood which I needed until this was done. At least, I no longer needed to feed from other humans - assuming I could count myself one of them still. And while mulling things over in the dark depths of the Serpent’s Trail during the daylight hours, I bethought me of the rockfallen end of the tunnels - which should have opened into Skyrim. How if I opened it again? Then, should I not be able to find suitable replacements in the local herbs, I could slither into Skyrim by dark of night, to pick what I needed. So, I set to that immediately. As a good idea, it really was. A good idea I mean. Of course.... in order to really move the boulders.... I had to shift to Lord-form. I hated it. And I hated needing to use it. That simply made it all the more an imperative to - find a way to a cure. Could I have gone back those thousands of years, been able to run from what my parents did to me.... I would have, instantly. GLADLY. |

Thank you neil! You know, there's some serious satisfaction in actually giving Serana a "whole story". The devs didn't bother.... |
